The information on the parents of Ida Mae Swanner is different from what you have. I have her parents listed as Oliver Swanner and Dell Finah Grantham. Parents of Dell Finah Grantham were Solomon Grantham b. 1824 SC and Charlotte Pope b. 1834 Marengo Co., AL. I would like to compare notes with you to find out if I have wrong or right.

I do not have a marriage date for Sarah and Bowden. I do not know where Cornelia is buried either. I would assume it is in the same place as the other wives. Bowden's 2 eldest sons named in will of George Barfield, Sampson Co (sent to Wayne Co), dated Dec 8, 1862, proved 1878.
HERRING GRANTHAM BIBLE: 1753-1931 in possession of Mae Grantham Ballentine of Faquay-Varina, NC as of 1987.
Bowdoin Grantham, G 8, Senior Reserves, North Carolina, 2 Lt. Co. C, 8 Reg, NC, Senior Reserves, Captured Bensonville NC, March 19, 1865, Joined April 11, 1865, Released on oath June 17, 1865.
Bowden is buried in Greene County - James Ingram has been to the gravesite - "Bowden's house is still in use and looks good." April 2004.
I have some newspaper clippings on Elozo II .... as a Rear Admiral in the US Navy he was named as Head of the US Atlantic Fleet Mine Force in 1962. Send me you Email and I'll send what I have as attachments Info@GoRoost.com
Thanks for the information. I've have two questions. We know Bowden married Sarah Pridgen as his third wife and is buried beside her in Greene County, NC (where we live). Sarah's will left her estate to Elonza Bowden Grantham whom she raised and loved as his step mother. Do you happen to know where Cornelia is buried? We visited the Grantham family grave site in Newton Grove, NC, where Cornelia's daughte, Georgiana and husband, Allen Blackman Grantham are buried. Also Bowden's first wife Cherry B. is buried there. But we did not see a grave for Cornelia. Also do you know the date that he married Sarah Pridgen?
Thanks for all the help,
Kathy

Good luck ...some of us have been looking for 40 years related to the father of Edward I.....Jack Grantham was the noted researcher before he passed 10 years ago. I has not been document Edward I was born in the VA....just a good guess by many of us....the only thing we know for sure is he was here in 1670's and died 1704....Other data shows a Thomas in several documents and a John....but nothing for sure....the gap between Sir Thomas 1600 and Edward is the mystery of today....there several sources back to 1300;s John Allen

James William Grantham was married to Charity Lucinda Hurst, b.1859 Claiborne Co,TN to Floyd Hurst and Charity Breeding Hurst. There was one other child, Sterling Floyd Hurst 2 years older than Charity Lucinda, and their mother died either during or shortly after that birth in 1859. The two children were brought back to Hiwassee VA to be raised by the maternal grandparents, William Breeding and Charity Fugate Breeding. They are on the 1870 Pulaski County census.I have not seen or ever heard any evidence of Indian blood/relations. What do you have on that, would you share?
James William Grantham's mother was Mary Ann Wassum. I'm not sure the Henry in Ohio is Jame's brother, as there is proof of Henry in Hiwassee VA at the same time.

Neil - I couldn't agree with you more. When I first started this journey...I made the huge mistake of just taking other people's word for things. Now..unless I have a reliable source...it doesn't even go into my database.

I have a lot of information gathered on Old Edward Grantham...however, I have not dug deep into the details of his life. He is my husband's 8th great grandfather:

Edward Grantham, known as "Old Edward," lived in Surry County, Virginia in the late 1600s. HIs family home was located directly across the James River from Jamestown. Edward Grantham is first mentioned in Will & Deed Book 1, Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Page 574. "Thomas Deacon of the Burough of Warwick in the County of Warwick revokes the Power of Attorney to James Powell to collect bills due from Elias Fort, Ed Grantham, and others, 7 Sept. 1675." This Power of Attorney had been originally granted January 15, 1669, indicating Grantham had been in the area since that time. There is no existing record of Edward Grantham being transported, so it is highly likely that he was born in the United States circa 1650 or ealier. Source: The Grantham Gazette, January 1997 Issue.

Anyone doing research on the Granthams of that time should get their hands on the Grantham Gazette.....there is also a man that has written a book on the Granthams....A Woodsmen Family...or something along those lines...the author escapes me now...I'll have to dig out my notes.

I hope this helps.
Judy Curbow
jlcurbow@att.net
http://www.curbowfamily.com
Chela

I've posted this in another thread, your approach to research seems very flawed to me, just gathering information from a website in a month!
Remember Arthur's book was probably written and researched pre-Internet, and probably more accurate as he'll have done the donkey work researching all the members properly.
I've been working on my Grantham's for years, and have difficulty getting past 1740's!
Putting meat on the bones of these ancestors is the most difficult part.

If I may say so (from personal experience) just gathering information off a website and adding it to your family tree is a sure way of making mistakes.
Family Tree research takes years of toil and each new member you add should be verified with certificates etc. You have no real way of verifying the information posted!

In the last month I have gathered enough info about the Grantham line to compile a book. Then I bought one by Arthur R Seder, Jr. titled The Granthams, seven generations of american frontiersmen. It was written in 1997 so it is missing a lot of info, but it is a pretty good read. The first half of the book is about Grantham's that I have in common with Arthur. The second half is about his personal line, which separates from mine. I wish I knew how to steal someone else's tree and make it my own. I feel like I'm reinventing the wheel. I have not read any of the directions on this site, so bad on me. Good luck.
A huge heart-felt apology to teafor2! I must have been braindead and grumpy the day I searched for this grave then wrote that note! Well, I have been inundated with junk mail lately, and ass umed this was more of it. The picture was easy to find and clear. Thanks for making these available.
OK, ok, I'll try to give you detailed instructions:

1. Click on http://teafor2.com - my web site where all my photos are stored.

2. Scroll down to Mount Olivet Cemetery in Tarrant County, Texas. There are well over 600 cemeteries listed. All are in alphabetical order by STATE, then by COUNTY, then my CEMETERY, then alphabeticallw within a cemetery. This particular cemetery is so large that their are multiple pages that you can access to get to the photos. Since you are looking for "GRANTHAM Emma V Jennie 1879-1956" you will find that photo listed on the "GH" page so click on the "G".

3. Scroll down to "GRANTHAM Emma V Jennie 1879-1956"
anbd click on it to see the picture.

The same process can be used to get to over 222,000 photos on my site. I'm sorry that is has been so hard for you to grasp the concept and see your desired photo. If I had to personally direct everyone to their loved ones photos, I'd have to charge for my time.

-=AllenWheatley=-

Grantham Line

I tried to find some information on my Grantham line about 6 years ago. A gentleman named Robert (Bob) N. Grantham got in touch with me and even sent me some information on our line. Well 6 years, 4 kids and 1 out of state move later from Missouri to Colorado and I've lost almost all of my information that I collected back then and lost contact with Bob. Im looking for any information on the Mississippi Grantham line. I know when they came over to the states they settled in Robeson CO NC?? My grandfathers name was Joseph (Joe) Grantham. He married a few times. First wives name was apparently Iva Ruth Mays. They had 4 children (my father Daniel Lee Grantham b.1957 in laurel, ms) being one of the 4 children. My great grandfather was Peter (Pete)Grantham. he was born Oct. 13, 1885?? Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated. Like I said, Im just getting back into the swing of things and pretty much have to start from scratch so I am at a complete loss as to where to even start?? my personal email is jtgmotter@hotmail.com. thanks in advance. :)
