Hello Granville Researchers

I'm at a wall I'm looking for anyone who has African American Granvilles (possible spelling Grandvill/e) in their line that may have found ties in Slavery. My 3ggrandmother Malinda (Granville) Lewis b. abt. 1838 who was purchased when she was abt 2-3yrs by Abraham (aka Abram)Lewis. Abraham fathered 6 children with Malinda/Melinda

1.Mary (aka Molly)md. a Parrish
2. Suddia
3. Lila
4. John Calhoun
5. Rachel b. 1853
6. Ella

after Abraham's death in 1870 Malinda continued living with Abraham's wife (at that time Matilda) Malinda is listed on the 1880? census along with her children. Malinda later showed up being a dependant to her son John Calhoun Lewis while he attended berea college in or abt. 1855. Anyone with any information concerning family,location etc.. please help I'm hoping that my 3gGrandmother may have had siblings that exsist that may have been purchased or information concerning her parents. I know she was born in Ky or so I'm told.

Do you have anymore information details. My Grandmother's mother was named Mary & was born in 1875. Her fathers name was Theodore.

I too have been seaching for quite some time for Malinda (Grandville) Lewis my 4ggrandmother born between 1930-1935 I think she was actually a slave to the Lewis family here in KY. I have had the most difficult time finding anything about African American Grandville. I'll use the info you gave me it may lead me to some sorta of connection. If it's ok with you I'll keep your contact info and as I look I'll keep my eye out for any of your info as well. Who knows it may lead us back to one another (smile). The only information I have on African American Granville is My maternal grandfather name was Robert Lee Granville b: Jan. 12, 1902 in Corsicana,Texas or Ardmore Oklahoma and d: Dec. 5, in Ferris,Texas. Had a brother named Richard and maybe a sister. Had three children by my grandmother (Nellie)all born in Texas. Etta M. Granville b: Sept 15,1930 d: Jan. 27,2010, Robert L Granville b: Oct 25,1935 d: Apr.24,2005 and one still living. I've been searching for my grandfather's parents/ancestors since 2004 and haven't had any luck. Hope this is of some help to you

I've been researching Granville's for some years now, not having very much or any luck looking or finding any info on a Robert Granville from Corsicana,Texas or Ardmore,Oklahoma. May have had a brother named Richard and a sister named Pearlie. Robert was b: January 12,1902 d: December 5,1973 in Ferris, Texas. I'm in need of HELP!!! does anyone know if there were any Granville Slave owners back in 1834? My 3ggrandmother was
Malinda Granville b. 1834 (Ky) she had 6-children (that I know of) with Abraham Lewis (Slave owner)of Meade Co.-Hardin Co. Ky.

I've not been able to find anything on her other then a 1870 Census where she lived with her children along with Abraham Lewis and his wife Matilda until his death:
1.Liley Lewis (20)
2.Rachel Lewis(17)
3.John Lewis (14)
4.Susan (Suddie)(3)
5.Ella (Lila) (2 1/2)
6.Mary (Mollie) (19) Mary was not on the list she was married and living with her husband at the time of the 1870 Census.

Abram's wife Matilda (60) was listed as head,Abram had died before this Census I think. Malinda however did show up on a 1880 Census in Louisville with her daughter Mary and her husband Isaac Parrish. Malinda had two of Mary's sister's with her as well Lila,Suddie.

I've not been able to locate Malinda after 1880, I would like to locate maybe her parents possibly where they came from and if there were siblings of hers as well. If she remarried,death certificate..anything and any help will be greatly I appreciated.

Hello, my grandmother maiden name was McEwen (McEwing) She married a Robert Granville, not sure if he was from Ardmore Texas or Ardmore Oklahoma. She had three childen by him, Etta Mae, Elizabeth and Robert Lee. Her name was Nellie from Cherokee County, Rusk Texas. Hope some of this helps.

I'm trying to trace the origins of Margaret Mary Granville & wonder if anyone can help. She was born c.1850 in Ashford Kent according to census from 1871 onwards. She married John Alfred Perrett in 1867 in Middlesex, her father was listed as William Granville deceased.

The couple had at least 8 children including my great granfather (also John Alfred)some died in infancy but I believe at least 1 (Maud) may have emigrated to Australia.

John Alfred was found drowned in the River Thames in 1897 & Margaret Mary died in 1914 in Forest Gate Sick Home.

I cannot find a listing for Margaret's birth or any record of her in either the 1851 or 1861 census.

Can anyone please help?

Hi, I'm trying to find any relatives of mine that may be related to Melinda(Malinda)Grandville in Ky married name Lewis not sure if she was born somewhere else but, her husband was Abram(Abraham) Lewis my 3ggrandmother Mollie(Mary)h(Isaac). Malinda had a daughter also named Suddia(Suda) Lila this was listed on the 1880 Census when she lived with her daughter Mollie and her husband Isaac Parrish(Parish). I believe my Granville's are the same. I have them going back to the mid 1800's. My great great grandmother was Annie O'Donoghue who's Dad was John. She married Michael Granville from Ballyaglisha. Michael and Annie had several children, Michael, Robert, John, Sara, and Mary, (My great grand mother, she married William Adams from Dingle). I believe it was Robert that stayed in Ireland to tend the farm and the others came to the US. If any of this connects, let me know and we can figure out any missing links.

I just got back from Ireland and found the same house that i have a picture of with my great uncle Joseph Granville standing in front of in 1947 with a caption owned by ten generations of Granville's, Ballyaglisha, Ireland. Ballyaglisha is only about a km from Ballyferriter. It was very exciting to have found it. we drove around a bit and asked a few people before we found it. Also found a grave stone in the cemetery with the name Grainbhil

his name was joseph granville and he was born in trinidad and tobago in the west indies in 1920

his mother's name was clara

his father would have been in the islands of trinidad and tobago, west indies around 1919 to 1920

we think that my grandfather's father might have gone to the usa after he (my grandfather) was born

we are the only granville's in the island of trinidad and tobago, and we would really like to locate our family.

GRANVILLE – John Harry Granville, 57, of 46 Douglas St., Tonawanda, died Wednesday (March 29, 1961) in Roswell Park Memorial Institute after a brief illness. Born in Lockport, Mr. Granville resided in the Tonawandas for the past 25 years, and for many years was employed by the Rose Coal Co. before joining the O.C. Bucks Shows. His wife, Olive (nee Fix) died in 1956. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Michael Szepesi of Tonawanda, and three brothers, Forbes V. of Buffalo, Alexander D. of Lockport and Ansley C. Granville of Tonawanda. Friends may call at the Hamp Funeral Home Inc., 37 Adam St., Tonawanda where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Paul Smithson will officiate. Burial in White Chapel Memorial Park.

Seeking information about Maurice F. Granville, graduated from U. of Texas in 1937, and was Chairman of the Board of Texaco in the mid 1960s.
He was a close friend of my parents and we kids were allowed to call him Butch (his nickname) only when there were no other people around other than our two families.

My husband is the gggranddson of duncan granville. His old homestead out in cumberland bay is still standing. Duncan was actually Charles Duncan Granville. He married Sarah Jane Stilwell. Their son Charles Fenwick is from whom my husband is descended.

There is a James Granville, 10 yrs., in the 1850 census, born England living with parents James and Frances Granville, He is not listed with them in the 1860 census. They are still in MO but he is not listed. The family is also listed as Glanville in some records.

Have you ever tried to obtain the book "History of the
Granville Family " by Roger Granville - pub. in 1895?
For your info. there is a lady named Betty Meischen who has done extensive researching , along with others, on the Granville/Grenville family and has tied her research to a ship Captain in the famous Battle of Trafalgar with the Spanish Armada.See her query of 9 Jan. 2001 about Benjamin/George Granville - England- but she appears various times on the message listings. Are the Granvilles of Maine & New Brunswick just a small offshoot of the family? What history of the family do you have of your branch and where did they come from?
