I'm searching for Karen Micheline born to Jennie Grasso on 11/09/1960 and placed for adoption to the Maclellan family in Brooklyn. Jennie's last name was changed to Micheline and later to Lindsay. There were older children: Faith Micheline (now Popolo) born in 1942, Harold Micheline Jr born in 1943 (died in 1994) and Frank Micheline born in 1947. I was born in 1950. There could be other children out there but am not aware of their possible ages. Our Mother Jennie passed away in 1981.

Hi Catherine!

I am your cousin. My great - great grandparents were also Henry and Mary Grasso. I have been working on the family tree for several years now with my dad Arnold and my Uncle Alfred Ziccardi. My great- grandmother was Annie, also known as Vincenza, married Thomas Vito Ziccardi (given name Alfonso Vito Antonio).

I would love to know if you have any other information about our great-great grandparents, such as when and where they died and when they were born, etc. I have been interested to find out information about Mary Grasso and her side of the family. I think she wasn an Agnese. Do you have any pictures of them? I have pictures from a trip my grandparents took to Dunbar over 50 years ago that has pictures of Carmella and William that I can send you. I also have the family tree on the family tree maker program.

My email is mbbalexis@verizon.net. I would love to correspond through email and share information, pictures, etc.

Maria Alexis

Hi,

My great-great grandparents were Henry & Mary Grasso. Their son, William, was my great grandfather. His sister Annie married a Ziccardi, so that must be your branch. He stayed in Dunbar and dropped the 'o' from his name, so we're all Grass now. William married Carmella Amoroso and had six children: Mary, Grace, John, William (my grandfather), Frank and Lawrence. If you want more info, let me know & we'll swap stories.

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/sbsun/obituary.aspx?n=sam-m... (has picture and guest book)

not related - for board info

Sam Marion Grasso Sr.

Sam Marion Grasso, Sr., 91, of Upland passed away suddenly on February 28, 2012 at home in the company of his loving wife of 64 years Grace Grasso. Born February 25, 1921 in Cucamonga, he was a lifelong resident of Cucamonga and Upland. Sam was a graduate of Chaffey High School and Chaffey Junior College. He worked as a mechanical engineer in the aeronautical and aerospace industries. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the Army Air Corps in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations, flying 39 missions in northern Italy.
Sam was a beloved husband, father, and member of the community. His many interests included reading and he was a long time member of the Friends of the Upland Library. He was a member of Lions International since 1969, and was a Life Member and Melvin Jones Fellow of that organization. He was a master wood worker. Examples of his work ranged from building antique clocks to sculptures rendered in wood. He continued his boyhood hobby of building flying scale model aircraft throughout his life. Additionally he enjoyed the history and design of kites and was a member of the American Kite Fliers Club. These activities made his shop a favorite spot for neighborhood children who were always welcomed to visit, participate and be inspired. Perhaps his greatest joy was derived from his always beautiful flower garden and bountiful vegetable garden the harvest of which was always shared with family, friends and neighbors.
He is survived by his wife, Grace Catherine Grasso, his children son Sam M. Grasso Jr. and wife Susan of Santa Paula, CA and daughter Rosemary Grasso Singel and husband Edward of Upland, his beloved granddaughter Kathryn and her husband Brian Hoxie of Alexandria Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mariano Grasso and Maria Grasso and brother Philip Grasso.
Sam touched the hearts of everyone who met him and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 9th, at Stone Funeral Home in Upland. Interment will be private, at Bellevue Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to California Lions Friends in Sight, or CLFIS, c/o Cucamonga District Host Lions, P.O. Box 182, Rancho Cucamonga CA, 91729.
Published in Inland Valley Daily Bulletin on March 6, 2012

I'm not related to any Grasso, but I noticed this obituary in the Sacramento Bee newspaper because I was also born in Rome, NY.

Grasso, Mario

My husband, my soulmate, our father and grandfather passed away with loved ones by his side on Good Friday, April 22, 2011.
Dear Al, Rosa Grasso was my grandmother's (Anna Maria Grasso) sister. I know a lot about her and have visited Cerami. I grew up in NJ with members of the Zingali family & Prestifilippo family, all coming originally from the Cerami area in the Province of Enna. I have recently been in touch with Michael Hirsch who has worked extensively on the Triangle Shirtwaist story, you may know him. Please contact me anytime. Best, Anna Marie Landolfo

Found yr posting while researching Rosa Grasso for the 100th anniv of the Triangle Fire on 3/25/11. I found yr posting and to my surprise Rosa comes from Cerami the town of my maternal grandparents. Indeed my mother (now 87) spent summers in Montclair w/her cousins.
You prob already know about this but check out www.rememberthetrianglefire.org ...there are many events to honor the victims and the history of the fire on this 100th year. There is another site which I will send along later.
Rose Cappi

Dear Michele Magno, Thank you very much for the information about your family and its connection to Rosa Grasso. Your message is consistent with the information that I found in the Ellis Island and Census records. This is wonderful.

As I mentioned in my original posting, Rosa Prestifilippo was my step-grandmother. She was born in 1882. Her first husband was Silvestro Gravagno, a shoe maker who lived in Kearny, New Jersey. He died after a long illness. Her second husband was John (Giovanni) Biondo, my grandfather. He also lived in Kearny, New Jersey. They knew each other through their local Sicilian Pentacostal church.

Allan Lacki

Hi. I don't have specific information about Rosa Grasso, but my grandmother's parents knew of her. My grandmother lived in Montclair, NJ. Was born at 41 Glen Ridge Ave in 1914 and stayed within three blocks all her life. Her parents and husband came to Montclair from Cerami Sicily. My grandmother's husband (who was born in Cerami) was related to the Prestifillipo (Dr. Presti as he was called). My grandmother passed last year at age 93- but I remember her telling me that one of the girls from the neighborhood died in that fire. Some of my grandma's people lived on Thompson Street and belonged to our Lady of Pompeii. My grandmother's name was Rose Russo and her husband was Dominick Russo.

Rosa Grasso, Victim of the Triangle Shirtwaist Company Fire of

I am researching the life of Rosa Grasso, one of 146 victims of the Triangle Shirtwaist fire of March 25, 1911.

A New York Times article shows that Rosa Grasso of 172 Thompson Street, Manhattan, was one of the many victims of the fire. In fact, the New York City death index confirms that a Rosa Grasso died in Manhattan on that same exact date.

Rosa Grasso's immigration record from Ellis Island shows that she arrived in America in April 1907 to live with her mother and father, (Carmelo Grasso), who were already residing at 41 Glen Ridge Avenue inMontclair, NJ. She came to America with her sisters Anna and Concetta and her brother Santo.

Shortly after her arrival, the family moved from Montclair, NJ to Manhattan, New York. We know this is true because all of the family members named in the Ellis Island passenger ship record match the family members named in 1910 US Census record for 172 Thompson Streeet in New York in 1910. In other words, we can be sure that the Rosa Grasso in the Ellis Island record, the 1910 US Census, and the Triangle Shirtwaist fire are all the same person.

According to the Ellis Island passenger ship record, Rosa Grasso came from in Cerami, Sicily - the same home town as my stepgrandmother, Rosa Prestifilippo. In fact, a number of other Prestifilippos are on the same Ellis Island passenger manifest, and they are also coming to America from Cerami.

My stepgrandmother, Rosa Prestifilippo, claimed that one of her near relatives died in the Triangle Shirtwaist fire. This is quite likely because Rosa's body was identified by a person named John Zingali, who married one of the Prestifilippo sisters just a couple of years before in Manhattan. At the time of the fire, the Zingali's lived just a couple doors away, at 175 Thompson Avenue.

Does anybody have any further information about Rosa Grasso?

Al Lacki

My grandfather, Antonio Grasso, was from Avellino. His wife was Angelina Cosentino. He came to the US in the early 1900's and settled in Stanhope/Netcong, NJ. He has several brothers, maybe even a sister. One brother Joseph went to Philadelphia. He married a woman named or called Frances. I have very little information. Would you know of any connection?

Hi
I am trying to locate missing family. My father, who I never really knew was named James(Jimmy)Grasso and lived in the Bronx NY, I know he died around the early 90's and had a sister Margie and his mother Margie still living in the Bronx. I was told he also had a brother patrick Grasso, who may be living in New Jersey and another older brother living in the Bronx that I don't know his name.
I moved to FL when I was very young and had no contact with my father's side of the family at all. Now that I am older and have my own family I am very interested to find, and meet some of my father's side of the family.

If Jimmy was still alive he would be roughly 53 yrs. old. I was told his older sister Margie died in the 90's as well. That is all the information I know about my dads family.

Any information or help would be much appreciated.

Thank You
natalie (Grasso)

Hello,

I just read your post. There are quite a few Cavalieri's in Omaha. They all came from Carlentini Sicily.

Anthony

Raffaela, have you any additional info on your Sebastiana like her maiden name before she became Grasso, her parents names and her approx birth date. I have a Sebastiana Leonardi tied into the Grasso family. I know it is a long-shot, but it could be a link.

Kind regards

Cathy, this is a long-shot but do you know any more about Sebastiano, e.g. the approx year of birth, and his parent's names. I have a Sebastiano also, but some of your siblings to him I do not know but could be some we have not found yet.

regards
