Re: Fannie Keen Gravely

Angela (Dunman) Regan,

I came across your post (posted ages ago) asking for information about Fannie Keen Gravely and did a quick look-up for you. I believe she is listed in the Gravely genealogy publication entitled "Joseph Gravely of Leatherwood."

This publication is available from:
Margaret C. Klein, Ed.D.
14 Crazy Horse Ct.
Palm Coast, FL 32037
Price $20 plus $1.50 postage

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Page 33
IV- 84. Francis Lefwich "Frank" Gravely [1828 - ] (Joseph King, Joseph Jefferson, Joseph) m. c. 1858 Eliz. Edwards [1841 - ]
206- v. Fannie K. Gravely [17 Feb 1867 - ]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fannie K. Gravely is also listed on the "Early Southside Virginia Families" web site (with references). Follow the steps below to locate Fannie K. Gravely on this site:
1. Go to the "Early Southside Virginia Families" web site at http://www.cottagehill.com/southside/
2. Click "Surname List" under the "Table of Contents"
3. Click on "Gravely" (628)
4. Scroll down the page to Fannie K. [S,C] born Feb 17, 1867 (for Fannie K. Gravely)
The fact that Fannie K. Gravely is not linked to her family unit indicates that the site administrator (our "cousin") has probably not heard from anyone who is/was researching her exact lineage. Click the "Table of Contents" link and send an e-mail to the e-mail address listed under Contact Information. Tell him (Jim) Sally sent you if you wish, but I am sure he would be glad to hear from you in any case. I think he (Jim) might be interested to know what the "K." in Fannie's name stands for (Keen) and who her Gravely family unit was.
Pat Ross at the BHC (Bassett Historical Center) in Bassett, VA might be able to give you some leads as well.
I hope this information is a match for the "Fannie Keen Gravely" you seek. Reply to this message, if you will, to let me know that you have received it (even though you have probably already found out all there is to know about this individual by now).
Sally
I could talk to her when I was scared or hurt. grandma was my hero. when she died I was crushed she was like a mom to me, even though I had a mom,my grandma was there for me always. she did things for me like sew a button back in place. I miss those days. her smile was very special because she wouldn't smile that much. she was a caring person. they will never be another Maggie. if you want to know more let me know. Mary Lou Gravely was my mom's name. before she married my dad Clinton Duncan.
I knew Harry Gravely he was my great uncle. his sister was Maggie Viars Gravely. I would see him when he would come down to visit or at grandmas home's she lived in different homes till she died.but he was a very tall man and nice. he was kind hearted.
1830 Fed Census, Roane County TN for William Gravely
On page 37 of the 1830 Federal Census for Roane County TN there is a William Gravely listed and I would like to get in touch with anyone regarding his family. I'm trying to determine if the last name is Gravely or Snavely.
The household lists 5 persons total:
1 male 20-29
1 male 50-59
1 female 10-14
1 female 15-19
1 female 50-59
On Jan 27, 1827 there is a record of a Susan Gravely marriage to James Grammor. It should read Grammer. The marriage bond listed the name Robert Tucker.
On the same page of the 1830 census just a couple lines up from William Gravely is the name Robert Tucker. I'm thinking Susan is probably the daughter of William.
I would like to verify the last name and figure out where James and Susan may have lived. If I can find her family, it might give me a clue where they may have gone.
Thanks in advance, Theresa
Sam Gravely of Axton, VA - His parents, Frank Gravely and Sarah King
I am researching the African American line of the Gravely family. I have a Samuel Gravely who was born May 15, 1901 in Axton, VA. His first wife was Alethea Brown from Charleston, SC. He died in 1942 in Columbus, Ohio. His DC lists his parents as Frank Gravely and Sarah King, both of VA.
I do not know if Samuel moved to Ohio as an adult, or if one or both of his parents moved him there as a child. So... I have been unable to get past Frank Gravely in the tree. I don't know what year he was born or died. Not sure of which state he was born or died in. Samuel's DC does say from was born in Virginia though. Is there anyone else out there researching this same family who can help me with the ancestry of this line?
Maggie, I realize that your last post to this site is 9 years old, but thought you might read it from time to time. I am a member of the Gravely Tractor Club and am looking into the history of the Gravely family. I have been in contact with Mary Ann Perdue, daughter of Thelma, granddaughter of Ben Gravely. She put me in touch with Betty, daughter of Alexander, granddaughter of Ben Gravely. I also found Sally Gravely on the computer looking for information on Ben Gravely. Have been in contact with Sally and know that you two are cousins. Her dad Archer Jr. was a brother of your mother Ruth. I have most of the history on Ben's side, but would like the history of Archer Gravely, your grandfather. Would like to hear from you. Thanks
If you descend from William Isaac Ichabod (in some order) Gravely's son William I, born November (1880 or 1881), your gg-grandfather and my wife Val's g-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Gravely, were siblings.
As you said, Isaac and wife Josephine are buried near Allatoona Lake. The cemetery is called Maeger Family Cemetery or, I've heard, Philadelphia Cemetery. It's near Victoria Landing in Cherokee County.
If you'll let me know, I'll e-mail you the information that I have. You may also wish to look at information posted by Johnny Jacobs. He and I differ on some minor details, but I'm sure he knows more about the family than I do.
Sadie GRAVELY, b. abt. 1882, Illinois, parents b. Norway, m. William BROWN, lived Grundy Co, IL
Looking for any info about Sadie GRAVELY and her husband, William BROWN.
E. William BROWN was born about 1872 in England, according to the 1920 census for Grundy County, Illinois. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1882 and became a Naturalized citizen in 1890.
His wife, Sadie, was born about 1882 in Illinois, and her parents were both born in Norway. In 1920 they had two daughters, Julia (b. 1913) and Elenor (b. 1917). Julia's obituary indicated that Sadie's maiden surname was GRAVELY, but I've not found any Gravelys in Grundy county so far. Julia's obit also gave the names of all her sisters: Elenor, Eloise, Nancy, Mildred and Doris.
Since Julia was the first-born child, I would assume that William & Sadie probably married about 1911 or 1912.
Re: Samuel Albert Gravely/GA
I have some rather disjointed data on Samuel Gravely, but perhaps it will help you. Maybe you can help me also! Others certainly know more about the Gravelys than I do. I am not even sure whether the data I have are for one or two Samuels.
As I have it, Samuel Gravely, born about 1843 in VA, was the son of Samuel and Delia or Delilah Gravely. He had several brothers and sisters, including Booker T., Meredith Berry, and my wife's XXXgf, William Isaac Ichabod. I know from censuses that the family was in Pittsylvania County, VA, in 1850, and had moved to GA before 1860. Samuel was apparently married to Martha Bunch, born about 1850, and both are buried in Emerson (GA) Cemetery. On his stone, he is listed as Samuel Berry Gravley, 1843 to 24 December 1923, and Martha is listed as Martha Bunch Gravley (dates 1850 to 1 May 1824). Nearby is the grave of their son Sam B. (reportedly Berry) Gravely, 7 October 1888 to 15 December 1944. There are several other Gravelys and Gravleys--related, I am sure, but I don't know how).
I am uncertain of the name of the church near the cemetery, but the cemetery is located off the main street, behind an eatery called Doug's.
William Isaac Ichabod Gravely, who lived in Cherokee County at the time, was in Co. L, 36th Georgia Infantry, CSA, in the Civil War, and a Samuel Gravely also enlisted in Co A, 43rd Georgia, in Cherokee County on 10 March 1862. Samuel was wounded and taken as a POW on 16 May 1863 at Baker's Creek, MS. I have seen reports that he died from the wounds, but that doesn't jive with the cemetery data (different Samuel?).
Ok, I am starting research on my husband's family.
I am stuck three generations back...imagine that.
I have Franklin Shumate Gravely (1912-1989) married to Zenobia Vivian Peters (1911-1987)
Franklin's father was Artie Franklin Gravely (1880-1969) married Lora (Laura) Ellen Shumate
That's it...that's as far I get.
These Gravely's are from the Shady Spring/Cool Ridge area of southern WV.
Any help would be greatly appreciated to push me in the right direction.
Thanks
Stef
DATA: GRAVELY (several different) listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook
DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).
This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):
Gravely, J. M.
Gravely, Miss Melba
There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.
If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...
Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .
Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...
Did you have any luck on getting the John Gravely ancestry in England. There is no John HENSLEY Gravely married to Margaret (Peggy) Ballenger Gravely whose mother was a Hensley. The Hensley name only enters the picture in the SC 19th century. It is an error made in the Winchester website. John Gravely died about 1835 and Peggy about a decade later. Laban Gravely signed as witness to a legal process in Pickens District SC about 1802 but apparently went to TN after that. Peggy is listed as born in 1762 in the Ballenger family history. John seems to have been born in decade of the 1740s if US Census records on him in SC in 1830 are correct. Will Gravely in COlorado
Re: Benjamin Jabe (or Jabez) Gravely of Pittsylvania Co. VA
Hi,
I have a potential candidate for you Benjamin. I have a Benny Gravely that would have been born in the 1890s, and he is the son of Jabez E. Gravely and Anna E. Toler. Unfortunately, I don't have any information on Benny, and I suspect that Benny is just a nickname <probably for Benjamin>. Jabez and Anna had 7-children. The only part about their children than may go against this Benny being the one you seek, is that one of their sons was named Jabez Leftwich. You'll find their names and lineages on my web site at www.cottagehill.com/familytree, and may download a GEDCOM of their data by going to the above site and following the link to "Descendants of Early Southside Virginia Families". This Benny Gravely is my 2nd cousin, 3-times removed.
Regards,
Jim Hankins
Green Sowers Gravely
I believe my great grand father Raymond Francis Toler was given to Green Gravely and his family to raise. Green Gravely was born in 1855 in Henry County VA. He died in 1935 in Henry County. Raymond Francis (1884-1930) and one older brother may have been given away . Their mother shows up living in Caswell County, NC up to 1930 in the census. I would greatlyappreciate any help. Thanks for your time. Always, SBlackwell
