The Greeks from Pennsylvania did, at one time, spell the name Krieg according to my family info.

I don't know if Brenda (Greek) Johnson still checks this forum, but I was curious about her grandmother's maiden name, assuming Walter and Mildred Greek were her paternal grandparents. I have them in my tree, but no maiden name for Mildred.

I am Joseph and Berilla (Mills) Greeks' 3rd great grandson, through their daughter Rhoda and granddaughter Ruth McEllhiney.

I found this info by accident but it mentions your family name. The link is below.
Constantinos Ahileos, Georgakis Paraskevas, Kyriakitsa Theohari, and Zacharia Hadji Theodossios were seriously wounded, the old priest Georgios was beaten and his chin cut off. An old woman of seventy- five, Kanelitsa by name, was violated. After many days spent in Ganos, the peasants emigrated to Greece.

http://www.ebooksread.com/authors-eng/constantinople-ecumeni...

My grandfather and great uncle came to the U.S. in 1912, but prior to that , their family lived in Myriofytou and then the city of Ganos (Ghanochora). I understand that there was not only great conflict between the Turks and the Greeks, but also a devastating earthquake. I am searching for anyone that may have information on the Paraskevas or Constantinou families.
Why did so many of the Greek kids in Evansville stay single? Was there something wrong with Anna C E Greek? She always had siblings to take care of her, especially brother Edward. He never married and always lived with her and sister Lillian, who also never married. The three siblings lived long lives, but I have no records of them ever being married and the census records show them living in the same house into their old age.

These were the offspring of John Greek and Mary Jane Bullock who lived in Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana in the 19th century.

Abraham Greek is the son of William Greek and Betsey Peck. He was born in Susquehanna Co. PA abt 1862 (I do have the date, but didn't look it up.) He married Lois Carpenter of Schoolcraft, MI (she is probably the daughter of George Carpenter) His father William died of Thyphoid fever in the Civil War and is burried at Prospect Hills Cemetery in York, Pa (Civil War Circle). I have the pension records of his wife Betsey Greek. These records give marriage dates, childrens names and dates of birth. She also remarried on Feb. 8, 1865 to Grandison Eno of Forest, Vernon Co., WI.

Betsey Peck is the daughter of Moses Peck and Naomi _____. I have the 1850 thru 1880 census for her. I do not know where she died. I also don't know when her father died, but Naomi was married to Abraham Slater in the 1850 Susquehanna, PA census and is living next door to Wm & Betsey. In 1870 she is living with Betsey and her four sons.

If George Carpenter is Lois' father, she goes back to William Carpenter of Rehoboth.

Her name was Harriet Greek, daughter to Elijah W. and Dora. She was first married to Geroge Slater, and then in the next census their daughter Mary was the adopted daughter of William Saram, and her mother wife of him. This is in Monroe County Wisconsin. Not sure if there is a connection, but thought I would try.
Michelle

I seen your message a couple of years ago. That was before I knew I was related to him. I couldn't remember where I seen your message to reply to, untill now. You already may know this by now Alvia Gerald Greek's father was Alvia L. Greek (born around 1888). Not sure who his mother was, as Alvia L. was married three times. I have a copy of your father's obituary in The Bradford Era, Bradford, Pa. that states he died Aug. 14, 1963 at the age of 36.
Alvia L. Greek was my great uncle. I have more information on Alvia L. Greek's ancestors, if you would like to know about them let me know.
Mike Bicek

Greeks buried in OH

Just ran across your posting on some of the Greek families I've been searching for:

Elizabeth Greek (w/o Simon) - Her maiden name was Hagerman. She and Simon Peter Greek (s/o Samuel & Sarah Welshimer Greek) were married in Wyandot Co., OH on 19 Jan 1860, but I hadn't been able to find any more about her.

I did find another marriage record for a Simon Greek as marrying Mary Heastand on 15 Aug 1880 in Wyandot Co., OH. Also, on 3 Apr 1883, Jacob B. Bachar etux (his wife was Elizabeth Hagerman's mother)sold 80 acres of land to an Amanda Heistand. Don' know what the connection is?

The Wyandot County Directory for 1877 lists Simon Greek as living in Ridge Twp.

Elizabeth Hagerman's brother, Henry G. Hagerman married Hannah Greek, dtr. of George and Rebecca Harrison Greek, on 27 Jan 1859 in Wyandot Co., OH.

I have a lot of ancestors from Wyandot Co., Oh and plan a research trip there sometime this year. Your burial list was very helpful and gave me a couple places to start looking for some of the graves I'm interested in. Thanks on behalf of this "long-distance researcher."

Barb
