Hi!

I am researching a mother daughter combo. The mother's married name is Mary Dean. I do not know her maiden name, but it might be Garret. From what I can tell she was born in Ireland. Her daughter Mary Amanda married a man named Henry Thompson. The dau. was born in Canada and moved to Mt. Morris Illinois before her first child was born in 1857. She named him Henry Dean Thompson. He had a son with the same name and so do I.

The family story has always been that Mary Dean ( no one specified which one) was a first cousin to Horace Greeley. I am trying to document that or disprove it. Any info you could pass along would be very much appreciated. If you need more info, please let me know. Thanks much, Becky

I have found out that Winfield Elmer Greely and Mary Louella Coates Benward were married in Kootenai County Idaho on January 11, 1929. When I have the time I am going to go to Coued'alene, ID and see if I can get an actual copy of the original record. Mary died in Yakima County so I have to request a copy of her death record from the state in Olympia because Yakima county does not hold there own records. Mary had been married once before but there were no children from that marriage. Also it seems that Grandpa used Winfield and Elmer interchangably as his first name. Has anyone ever found if a birth record exists for him to know which name really came first?

I am Winfield Elmer Greelys granddaughter. He married Mary Luella(Louella) Coates sometime probably April,May or June of 1929. I am researching newspapers in Spokane Washington to find an exact date. I found her first husbands grave and obituary. Charles F. Benward died June 12, 1928. My Cousin is sending me the birth certificate for Mary and Winfields first son Paul Winfield(at least that is what we all called him) so I can confirm information. They had a second Marion Edward(my father)though as of today I know that the state messed up his birth record and it was never corrected. It is informative. That is also why there are two spellings for Marys middle name.Marion(dad) was born at the Salvaton Army Home in Spokane, Wa I am checking to see where Paul was born. They moved a great deal. Winfield was born in 1888 and Mary in 1889. I will be ordering her death record from Washington State records in Olympia. I learned today that Yakima County Washington is not large enough to hold there own records so they are held with the state. Winfields would also be there and I may order his later to see what might be on it. They are both burried in Mabton, Wa. I noticed someone else named a cemaetary and that name is probably correct. One day I will drive south to see. Marion Edward Greely died in Spokane Wa 1 Feb 1979 at the age of 47 and is burried in the Pines Cemetary. Paul Winfield has died but I will have to get back to you on the date. He was cremated and has not been burried. He died in Ephrata, WA

Someone has asked for some help with their Coats line, and in doing that research ran into this message board.
What I have found may be helpful to anyone doing that line -
I have just gotten to Winfield Elmer Greely, who married a woman name Mary and they had at least one son Paul Winfield Greely, living in the State of Washington.
Mary Louella Coats was born in March of 1889 in Missouri to Benjamin C Coats (born about 1855) and Annie E Van Duzer.
This was their only child. Benjamin then married Belle Breeze (her name may have been Ida Belle Breeze and from what I can tell, her mother was Clarinda Breeze, and she was a child born out of wedlock before her mother married Daniel Sullivan)Benjamin and Belle had several children together.
Mary Louella Coats first married Charles F or C.F. Benward, this happened right around 1905 and most likely in Missouri, probably Lafayette County. If anyone can find this marriage, please reply to this thread. I am having trouble locating it, as was the person that asked for my help.
They moved to Spokane County, Washington by 1910 and had no children together. Charles died in 1928.
Mary Luella Coats Benward then married Winfield Greely. They had at least one child together. She died 23 November 1952 and is buried in Grandview Cemetery in Yakima County, Washington.
I have Mary Louella Coats' line done a little farther back than her, I am trying to link this Coats line up with my own from Texas County, Missouri.. but have not had any luck yet.
Hello Michael,
My father's family name is Dickinson. I am fortunate enough to have family albums going back to 1850, and found among my relatives a photo of Horace Greeley. I read online that the name Dickinson is mentioned in the two-volume book, but I do not own a copy. My fathers family was from New York. They went to Michigan in 1837, then to Wisconsin and from there to Iowa. I live in Illinois.

Can you tell me if you know if there is a Dickinson-Greeley connection? My great-great-great-grandfather was Amos Dickinson, and My gg-grandfather was Henry Townsend Dickinson. Amos was married first to Nancy Coomer, then to Sarah Whitney. H.T. was married to Sarah Whitney Vosburg, daughter of Jacob Vosburgh. I don't know if this helps, but I would appreciate any information you have time to pass along. E-mail is: s.vandaele@mchsi.com. Thanks so very much.

Hello -

I've traced my lineage all the way back to the immigrant Andrew Greeley, and I know that he was born in Nottingham, England around 1620 or so. What I don't know, and would like to know, are the names of his parents - I can't find anything about him. The trail ends with him. Does any information about his family exist, excluding that about his wife and descendants? Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

I'm looking for Anna Louise Greeley who married Andrew Erickson and lived in Dovre, Wisconsin. She died in 1900, perhaps in childbirth.
