Hi again,

Just spent the last three hours reading and studying the -
"Descendents Of William Greene" that you sent. Good stuff !!

However - I would like to exchange emails with you so we can compare notes more easily. I have so many questions and much I could share.
My email is jboie2@mediacombb.net

Have you ever read "The William Allen Papers"? All your Greene's that are in Watauga County in the time period your
Greene's were there, are in a medical study done there. These Papers are housed in Boone - I believe at the Apallation(?) College. I don't have them in front of me but the names of your Greene's are all there.

Have you got a copy of John Green's Revolutionary War Pension Records from 1832 and later?

Later, Judy - MN

LOL

My Green research group has been researching our John Green
- b: ca 1765 on Rocky Creek in So Carolina, for 35 years.
We have never found any records on our John Green in which he was called Moccasin John.

Can you tell me all the names of your Moccasin John Greene's
Children with their birthdates???

Also - you mentioned your John's wife - Elizabeth Coffey lived from 1786 to 1791.
Hello
From what I can gather here our family has been in the U.S. since 1767 and it was Culpeper Virginia. During the Civil War era there was a Greene listed as being from New York but have not been able to establish he was part of our family.
Chuck

way back in the Green/e family I believe some came from North Hamptonshire England I will have to check on the years and where they settled. I dont think any were from New York. Most of the Greene/e in our family settled in Culpeper Virginia.
Chuck

Hi, Im having the same issue. My great grandmother came from england. I think her name is Ruth, Im not sure her married name was greene or her madien name. It is believed that she was adopted by another family because her mother mated with a black man and her mother didnt like it. I am fronm Newburgh Ny and my family resided there and they were Greenes. I believe we may be conneted. Maybe her mother name was Dora and father name was Authur.. My mom tells me that she named my sister after her great grand. [Dora]

I am Lisa Marie.(Miles)Erickson.I am the daughter of Georgia Mary (Greene)Miles. My mother was the youngest child of Walton Ward Greene & Katie Viola (Keller) Greene. She had an older brother, Chester Greene and older sister Ora Belle Greene. My mother was quite a bit younger then her brother or sister. She passed away 4 years ago. My father was Everette George Miles. Georgia & Everette have seven children, Patricia(Burl)Wurm, Marsha Miles Dubrock, Cheryl Miles, Lisa(Harry)Erickson, Candance(Patrick)Heaslip, Craig Miles and Erin(Ken)Willhite. I only remember seeing Chester a few times but spent summer weeks with Grandpa Green & Ora. Ora never married . Katie Greene died before I was born. She passed sometime after my sister Marsha was born. Walton married Elsie Gustafson when I was young and she was the only grandmother I remember.Walton had a sister named Bertha that I can remember but if he had a brother I dont remember him. I have a very old photo given to me by my mother of a family photo of waltons parents, his sister Bertha, himself as a young man and another young man that must be his brother. I could send you a copy of it if you like. Sincerely Lisa Erickson.

My Grandmother Mary(Minnie) Greene can be found in the 1911 census of Doonbeg town. Her parents are Francis & Maria Greene and are listed as shop owners. They were married in 1902. Maria was a dressmaker. I believe Maria's maiden name was also Greene(Green).
In the 1901 census, two unmarried sisters Maria(Dressmaker) & Katie Greene are listed in Doonbeg town. Francis Greene is found in nearby Doonmore, the oldest son of widowed mother Anne Greene(also a dressmaker).
The Greenes of Doonmore were neighbors of Thomas & Anne Kitson. Simon Kitson, my grandfather born 1904 Doonmore, would go on to marry Minnie Greene late 1920s in NYC.
I am particularly interested in finding more info on anne/maria greene.
Please refer to my earlier post describing my relationship to John 'Moccasin' Greene (1762-1853).

Family records indicate John 'Moccasin' was noted for great strength and agility as a young man in Watauga County (then part of Wilkes County, NC) and that he served with General Nathaniel Greene (no known relation) at the Battle of Guilford County in Greensboro, NC (where Greene was defeated by Cornwallis).

John married Elizabeth Coffey and fathered 6 children: Arthur, James, Aaron, Elijah, Abel and Isabella. He died in Madison County, NC at the age of 90. John's son Arthur was my great great great grandfather.

These family records were compiled by my grandfather (The second oldest of ten children, born in 1884) and his next younger brother, Will - both of whom lived well into their eighties.

Re: "MOCCASIN" JOHN GREENE DESCENDANTS

Hi,
So glad to hear from you............

Joseph S. Green -b: 19-May-1789 is the son of the John Green1765, who is known to me as John GreenRWS - Revolutionary War Soldier. John was my gr gr gr gr grandfather. I have his Rev War Pension Record which, I conclude, proves he is not "Moccasin" John Greene. At least not if most of the many birth dates given for "Moccasin" John, are indications as to whether he was old enough to be in the Rev War - or not. Many histories online have Moccasin John born 1774 which, I would think, made him too young to join the war.
Other indications that we probably are dealing with two different John Green's are:
1) The 1832 Rev War Pension Deposition given by John Green says "he was born on Rocky Creek in South Carolina but moved to North Carolina as a small child. He then went back to SC at age 16 y/o and enlisted in the Rev War at Cherokee Ponds, SC and fought in the Battle of Eutaw Springs, which took place in 1781.
2) There is no living wife mentioned in the John Green Pension record deposition of 1832. Moccasin John's wife Elizabeth (Coffey) Greene was still living in 1832 and would have been mentioned.
3) I also believe that the War Pension records also give the names of John Green's living children as: James, Joseph, Arthur, my Aaron, and Isabel. None of these childrens names seem to belong to Moccasin John - unless the researcher mixed the two families children together.
4) In 1840 Yancy Co., NC - my John Green lived with son-in-law James Buchanan and daughter Isabel (Green) Buchanan.
5) On 2-June-1853 when John Green died - James and Isabel (Green) Buchanan's daughter, Anna (Buchanan)Young, was taking care of her grandfather John Green. John was buried
in the Little Ivy church cenetery Madison Co., NC, which, due to several changes with new creation of NC counties, put this cemetery in a different county than it had been.

The Joseph S. Green1789 who married Mary "Polly" Collis ca 1813 in Burke Co., NC - was a brother to my gr gr gr grandfather Aaron Green -b:12-July-1800.
Your Aaron Green-b:30-Dec-1834 who married a Sarah Ann Buchanan. I have a whole Buchanan history but I haven't taken the time to figure out which Buchanan this Sarah Ann belongs too.
Your Aaron Green's son William -b:1866, I am a bit iffy about. Did William marry an Elizabeth "Betsy" Buchanan??

Well, this is probably way more than you wanted to know. I sure would appreciate your help in trying to figure this
mix up out once and for all. We have not been able to connect my John Green to any parents, yet. Also, we need a for sure wife's name for him. We have settled on an Elizabeth Buchanan due to a letter we have from a Jeremiah H. Green in Bakersville, then Yancy Co., NC - to his cousin John Jones Buchanan who's living in Jennings Co.,IN, back in 1888. One has to read it several times and know the Buchanan history, to get the true meaning of what it says.

My name is Chuck Greene my family is from Ohio My Grandfather Greene was a Green until he married Corda Green he then added an E to the name. I have a John Green/e in my family tree. I am the son of Charles Kenneth Greene, his father was Charles Harmon Green/E Charles' father was George Green, So throughout history the E has been added or subtracted at will there seems to be no historical significance to doing it.
I will have to look back but I am not sure about Mace Green/E Hope that helps.
Chuck

I am the great granddaughter of Robert Cummings Greene, son of William Alston Greene, and have been able to learn a great deal about my ancestors, thanks to the amount of information now online.
I understand that William's house in Oak Bowery is still standing. I am planning a trip to that area, and while I will have no problem locating the cemetery where my g-g grandparents are buried, I would like to visit what once was their home also.
Do you or anyone else on this board know where I can get the address?
Daniel Green from Rhode Island, born in 1807

I am researching my ancestor Daniel Green, who was born in Rhode Island in 1807. He was married to an Abby Jane (maiden name unknown) and had three kids, William F Green, Moses Leonard Green, and Abby Jane Green. The family lived in Massachusetts, but Moses Leonard Green returned to live in Rhode Island to raise his family.

I believe Daniel's father was Job Green(e) of Rhode Island, as it is shown in the family trees that he had a son named Daniel born 1806. However, I found another Daniel living in Rhode Island who was born that year, and he was a doctor with a large family. I recently found another census with the aforementioned daughter Abby Jane Green living with Job (who would be her grandfather) in 1860, however I don't know if this Abby Jane is the daughter of my ancestor Daniel (Abby's birth-date with the 1850 census in her father's house does match up with the Abby Jane in the 1860 census with Job). However, Daniel was still alive in 1860, so why wouldn't she be living with her father?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
