It is hard to find out information on Ireland at that time, I know that I have relatives from there including a Charles Greer born about 1826, I tried to attach a file to this message with the details but was having problems, if you contact me I can send you the information I have.

Hi Scotdes thank you for getting back, I was asked by my friend’s mother if it was possible to find any family of her father Andrew Greer whose father and mother was Alexander Greer and Isabela Alcorn. Her father left when she was young and only has the above names to go by and she would be grateful for any information you could give her.

My ancester was Charles Greer from Donegal Ireland. He left for Scotland with his wife Esther Hunter. I am having a lot of trouble tracking his Irish roots.

Hi
Could you tell me which Charles this is a date or dates
would help me place your Charles.
There are a few Charles Greer's in this family some I do not have wife's for...

Charles Greer born 1841
Charles Greer born 1872
Charles Greer born 1901
Charles Greer born 1904

If this is the same family I have quite a few names.

The Greers that I am looking for started with Charles Greer c1811 who married Esther Hunter. Their children were James Greer 1836, Martha 1848,Helen 1844, Jane 1847,Charles 1853,Esther 1851,Richard 1842, and John 1871. They moved to Glasgow by 1871. On one of the census's it is mentioned that they are from Clodahorky and all the children were born there.

I have found a notice of their marriage however it is listed as Grier
Grier Charles May 17, 1830 Hunter Esther Fannet Pres the web address is
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/gr...
This change of name is not unusual but it may help you trace things.
There were a lot of Griers and Greers in Donegal in the 1800 and it is difficult to sometime to trace which branch of the family they are from
