His mother was Anna Jane Carins, also born in Ireland.

John C. Greer married Hannah Carolyn Davis (b. 1866 in England -d.1937 in Norristown, PA) Hannah's parents were Thomas Davis and Keren Appuch Rose.

You have Matilda born Feb 1891 in your list. Her name was Mary Martha; my great aunt. Mary Martha
(d.1981)married Horace Hamill(b. 1899 - d. 1981)

Mabel T. (1887-1977) married Harry S. (Have tombstone photos as well as other info.)

Their second child, Edith Virginia Weand is my mother. She was married on 11 Aug 1937 to Budd K.
Alexander L., Thomas, and Esther Greer - Covington KY - 1815

ALG and TG (brothers) and EG (likely their sister or aunt) emigrated from N. Ireland with the mother of ALG and TG (name unknown) around 1815 and settled in Cincinnati OH and then Covington KY. ALG and TG became prominent business men, and EG married Allen Culbertson. The family has a Protestant heritage. I'm trying to find the names of ALG/TG's parents and the place in N. Ireland from which they emigrated. Thanks!

Joseph Greer was the 2nd born son of Andrew and Ruth Kincaid Greer, born in Va., August 08, 1754. He settled with his father in Watauga Settlement (now Carter Co. TN) and is best known as the "Kings Mountain Messenger" as he delivered the news to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia as the success of Kings Mtn. in the Revolutionary War. There is much information on him on the internet. He was first married to Sarah Carter and some places will tell you that there were no children of that marriage, but in all probability there were four adult children at the time of his 2nd marriage which was to Mary Ann.

Ollie - Joseph Greer's parents were Andrew Greer, b. 1730 and came to VA. from Ireland. He was most probably one of, if not the first settler of the Watauga Settlement in what is now Carter Co. TN. His mother was Ruth Kincaid b. 1732 Albemarle Co. VA. Ruth was daughter of Joseph Kincaid.
Mary Ann Harmon, Joseph's wife, was the daughter of Joab Harmon and Margaret Lewis.
I have a lot of information on the Greer Family.
Ruth

Are you referring to Belfast,Ireland only? I am currently researching my Greer lineage in Belfast,Maine. James Greer (b.1761)came to Belfast, Maine from Vermont. It is believed that he had 13to14 children. I have found definitely 9 children of James and Sarah with a possibility of 4 more. If this is a possible road for you don't hesitate to contact me. There were many, many Greers in that area.
I am searching for information on this family and I need help.

Walker Greer b-1888
married about 1912-1913
Sarah Caherine Baker b-18 May 1892 Leslie County, KY
d- 23 Jun 1922 Laurel County, KY
(F) Isaac Baker
(M) Nancy Cornett
1. Arlie B. Greer 18 Apr 1914 Perry County, KY
2. Wallace Greer 1915 Laurel County, KY
3. Charlie Greer 1918
4. Nancy Greer b-Jun 1922 d-7 July 1922 Laurel County, KY (probably named after her grandmother, Nancy Cornett Baker)

After "Catherine" died and the baby died soon thereafter, the children were split up to live with sisters of hers, George & Polly Reed of Laurel County and Bige and Darcus Pennington of Harlan county. I cannot find them after the 1930 census and wonder if anyone has connections? I am not sure if they finally got back with their father, served in the military or left Kentucky. I do not know if Walker re-married or perhaps died in 1930... Any help??

I know there were other Greers living in Laurel County around the same time:
1- Mr. Greer md Elizabeth "Lizzie" Asher with children:
1.Earl b-1912, Clyde b-1916, Loyd b-1919, Frank b-1923

2- Mr. Greer md Nancy Betsy Johnson with children:
Debbie b=1911, Ivery, b-1913, Ruby b- 1915, Edith b-1918, George K. b-1920

3- Mr. Greer md Martha or Fanny Robinson with children:
Haskell b-1920, Verdie b- 1922

Perhaps these were Walker Greer's siblings?? My Aunt said that his people came from North Carolina or South Carolina.

The family tradition goes that Aunt "Catherine" had a new baby, still nursing. Walker went out fishing for some kind of fish that would run at that time of year. It wasn't smelt but probably something like that. They must have been spawning that time of year and Walker went to catch some. It was raining and cold. He had been drinking and by the time he was home he was freezing cold. She was sleeping in bed with the baby when he got into her bed, drunk and soaking wet. She and the baby both got sick and never recovered. The baby, Nancy, is said to have been buried in the same grave at Laurel River Cemetery in London, Laurel, KY

Hello W.,

Our Greer line descends from Aquilla Greer, who was born in 1816. He is buried at Mt. Sharon Cemetery. He married Martha Ann Gilliam and had numerous children. Our line comes through William Charles Wesley Greer the James Dias Greer. We are also descended through Valeria Ann Greer, a sister of William Charles Wesley Greer, both Aquilla's children. My Capps ancestors were second cousins on the Greer side. In this family, I do not find one F.J.Greer (Robert Johnson)Greer, grandson of Andrew Greer and Mary Vance. I have seen those names on the internet (Ancestry.com) in the message boards.

The Andrew Greer is interesting as there was an Andrew Greer in Tennessee History. He was an Indian Agent and had brothers. One of his brothers was named Joseph Greer. This Joseph Greer ran from the King's Mountain Battlefield, all the way to Washington, D.C. to report the battle had been won. He hid in logs along the way to avoid the Indians. His picture is in the Legislature Building at Nashville, TN. Joseph was very tall, and is pictured wearing a coonskin cap.

I will keep your query on file if I find anything. Thanks for writing,

aebpfg

James Dias Greer is my great grandfather, as he is the father of Bessie Lee Greer. I barely remember meeting him when Miles Sr. and Bessie Lee took me to family gatherings and to church at Luton's. I suppose it was a Church Reunion that we attended. I recall being there when I was about six years old. There were also meetings at James Dias and Leonia A. Fox Greer's home also. The home was built by Miles Mayo Capps, Sr. He also built the house across the road (Limestone Exterior). I recall meeting Clint Fox and his mother, I am not sure what her name was, but Grannie (Bessie) introduced her as her grandmother ???. I have a picture that Aunt Mildred Capps gave me of her, Bessie and Leonia. Mildred referred to her as "Sallie" Williams. Do you know who that person could be?

April
