My Greetham / Greatham family were from the Gosberton and Crowland areas of Lincolnshire. There was one Sarah Greetham - she married Thomas Vellam and had two daughters (before dying in 1881 aged 78 years). None of Sarah's male relations appear to have married women called Sarah, so not sure there is a link depsite the unusual name.

Greethams in Lincolnshire, England

My great-grandmother Hannah Ann Mettam was born at Great Hale near Heckington in March 1864. She was the daughter of John Mettam and Elizabeth (née Creasey). Hannah Ann's mother, is thought to have died about three days after the birth, and her father John remarried. His second wife was Harriet Rossington. They seem to have had six children together in the years 1866 to 1876, but for some reason I cannot find the family in the 1881 census. In the 1901 census John and Harriet are shown at Great Hale aged 71 and 63 respectively - John died on 15th December 1913 aged 83.

Many years later, in 1937, a Mettam legacy benefitted (among others) the surviving nine children of one Sarah Greetham. I know nothing of her, but it would make sense for her to have been a younger half-sister of Hannah Ann, i.e. a daughter of John and Harriet. Does anyone have anything that might support this hypothesis or link the Greethams with the Mettams in any way whatever?
Unfortunately your Harriet isn't mine - she would be too old, and mine definitely married John Mettam. However, she could well be an aunt or similar. I'll keep your message on file and get back to you if I establish a connection. Thank you for leaving the message.

Thanks for your quick reply, Robin. I reckon my Harriet Rossington would have been about 20 in 1850 so if you do come across anything I'd be grateful. Thanks again, Jo.

To Robin Sharman; I'm afraid that the names Mettam and Greetham don't mean anything to me, but my Great-Great Grandmother was called Harriet Rossington (she was married to a William Green and I am descended from their son John) and I have been unable to locate her or her husband in any records I have searched so far. Their son John Green was born in 1850; I have his Birth Certificate and he was born in Bethnal Green, London. I am also unaware of any siblings from this marriage. Is it remotely possible that your Harriet Rossington is the same person? I'd be pleased to hear from you or anyone else who might be able to help. Rossington is a fairly unusal name but Green (especially William!) is an impossible one to trace!
