Hi Sharon, grateful for the quick reply. My sister Joyce told me her grandson found this site, also pictures of our grandparents. I have been trying to find the site and was not successful. My brother Jesse said he met you while working at the post office. I am glad you are tracing the family tree. My son gave me a computer for my birthday and I am not too efficient on it yet, so forgive me if I don't get things exactly right. I live in Frazeysburg Ohio, which is near zanesville Ohio. Here is my e-mail. emily_A2010.com

I am also searching for Samuel G. Grice's parents. I believe his father was John C. Grice that married Mary A. Staling 13 Sept.1860,however I have a record of a life insurance policy that belonged to John Samuel Grice and that policy indicates that his grandfather was killed in the army at age 40? John's wife, Leola Cain Grice, told me on numerous occassions that she thought John's grandfather was killed in the Civil War. I am trying to put that puzzle together. There is a Confederate Service Record of a John Grice, private; age 25/28; Co. K 25th Ala Inf. Reg.; Aug 8,1862 at Camp Loomis Tenn. My husband is a grandson to John Samuel Grice. So glad to see your information and I will be happy to share any that I have. We make fairly frequent trips to Enterprise, Ala. to visit my husbands mother and his siblings. Good luck....and I will post any new info that I discover.

First wife of Samuel G. Grice was Sarah Amanda Baker 4 Jan, 1885. Second marriage was to Catherine King 20 Nov,1893. Parents of Sarah Amanda Bakeer were James Baker 1828--1870 and Martha Ann Bowden 1826--1880. I am looking for Samuel's parents. I believe his father was John C. Grice and mother Mary A. Staling, Grice, however I have not been able to prove. My husband is a grandson to John Grice, son of Samuel G Grice. Any information you can share is appreciated.

Grice and Nancy Downing as John F. Grice parent's. Is that correct? Would you know who Nancy Downing's parents were?
We have John Frank Hamrick and Nancy Creach [Creech] as Selina M. Hamrick parent's. Is that correct?
We would like to find out Nancy Creach's parents and grand parents? We think that James P. Hamrick and Matilda Horsley are John Frank Hamrick's parents?
Any help would be appreciated.
Glenn's father was Mack Lloyd Miller.

Hello! I found the marriage of John C. Grice and Mary Ann Stallings on September 12, 1860, Pike CO., AL. I think this is your Mary A. especially since Samuel is with Silas Stallings in 1870.

I believe I'm related to this John C. Grice... just don't which one.

There were two John C Grice's... father and son.

The eldest was John Sr. born 1795 SC died abt 1861 Coffee Co., AL. His will was probated there and listed 7 children and 1 grandchild as heirs. Rachel, Betsy, Caroline, William G., Nancy, John Jr., and Mansel. Grandchild William Green Peters, son of Spencer Peters. His widow was Mary. This John could have been the father if Samuel was born after his father's death. However, I think it is unlikely since he was not mentioned (even as unborn child) in the probate records.

Also his wife in the 1850 census was named Mary, so it could be that his 1st wife outlived him.

So that leaves John Jr. This one could be the father but he was remarried by 1870 to Suphronia Austin. They are together in Geneva Co., AL. John Jr. died between 1870 and 1880 because Suphronia had remarried by 1880.

Do you have any other information about Samuel that might help solve this?

Tonia Porter

My father's family was also connected with the Liverpool docks. We know very little about his family and he is no longer alive. Do you know any other names, did your grandfather have brothers? My father's father died shortly after coming back from 2WW and I don't know his name. His brother was Bill (William) (also deceased). I will try to find out more from my mother.

I just was given a wonderful book written by Farrington Carpenter entitled, Confessions of a Maverick. It is his autobiography. My grandfather, Harry Morris was a cattleman in Northwestern Colorado, where I was born. He knew Farrington as they both were cattlemen and were both involved in Colorado local government. Just a heads up to you. I know you would enjoy it. My Dad is 88 and he just loaned me the book.

was looking for the family in Arkansas and finally found this, not sure if it's them, but it's definitely a possibilty:

marriages:
Groom-Last/Middle/Age-Date Marriage-Wife-Last/Middle/Age-Book and Page
McCRORY JAMES C. 39 m.1907-01-06 WIFE:> TELLINGTON LEANNA 35 K-123

These records are taken from Obituaries taken from various sources, and listings of marriages taken from St.Francis County Records from Books D, E, F, G, H, I and K-covering period from April 1875 to March 1911. I have seen the handwritten entries, and can only say that these are interpretations only, and could be incorrect.
http://www.argenweb.net/stfrancis/MARRIAGES/H%20to%20M.htm
==========================================================
this is interesting as well:
http://www.migrations.org/individual.php3?record=22834
========================================
http://www.vindy.com/news/tributes/2010/dec/12/charles-l-mcc...
==============================
