Hi,

I've put together a quick research tree on Edward. It appears there was a generous amount of misspelling going on - Griffen, Griffy, Griffon, Gribbin - all in Wilkes. I have basically tested logical consistency but you will need to do your own validation and checking. I've sent you an invitation just in case so you can see "living" individuals.

Was GW married twice?

I'm very interested if indeed Edward was born in Chatham county as indicated in the 1850 census. Please keep in touch.

http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/41331475/family

Cheers,
Dan

I am researching the line of Griffins from Wilbar, Wilkes County NC. I have seen posts with references to Wilkes, GA, but my line is in Wilkes, NC. I know the family has been there on the mountain for a very long time, and I was able to trace it to Edward Griffin, but cannot seem to go back any further. His son was born in 1846, so I estimate that he had to have been born in about 1820 or earlier. If anyone can point me in the correct direction, it would be appreciated.

Loretta, I have copied a paragraph from one of your postings below:

"I have more info if needed on this family.
This is the Same family of Silas Griffin who was married to Adeline Griffin--as they named their children after Silas' siblings and uncles--and in the 1900 Census Silas' step mother Sarah was living with him and his wife as she was then a widow."

Question: Please go to the Madisonville, Madison County, Texas genealogy website and look at a picture of an old Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
http://www.txgenweb4.org/txmadison/fs_griffin.html

My Mother that was born in Madisonville, Texas told me many years ago that the parents of James Noah Griffin came to Madisonville to visit him. His parents were John Griffin and his step-mother was Sarah/Sally (Crutchfield) Griffin. We think (no proof) that the above listed grave is of John and Sarah/Sally Griffin and that they died in Madisonville, TX. The Primitive Baptist Church is next to the small cemetery and is likely the church some of the the Madisonville Griffins attended. I know that my great-grandmother, Frances J. (Hale) Griffin, wife of James Noah Griffin, was a Primitive Baptist. I gave her old book about her church to my sister after the death of our mother, Lella Otis (Griffin) Brown. After Hale Noah Griffin and Mexie (Mathis) Griffin, my mother Lella, and James Noah Griffin and his wife Frances J. (Hale) Griffin moved to central west Texas, Coleman, to escape the mosquitoes in Madison County, my mother Lella went with her grandmother, Fanny (Hale) Griffin on the train from Coleman to near Abilene to attend church services at a Primitive Baptist Church.

I have seen that you have Sarah (Crutchfield) Griffin as dying in Florida. Do you have a cemetery and grave site and/or possibly a picture? I do so hope that you do.

I have copied all of your message and sent to my brother that is retired from the Oil Patch and lives in New Zealand. Dan is the one that introduced me to genealogy. Before he retired, he had a woman in Texas that did much of his family research via snail mail to the Far East.

I know these posts are old but I'm just coming across them because I am at a dead end with my Trotter line. I have a James/Eliza Trotter emigrating sometime after 1816 to Pittsburgh, PA.
I believe James was born in 1800 Ireland and
Eliza born 1806 Ireland. They appear to have been married before coming to America.

They both died in Keokuk, Iowa in 1876 & 1894 respectively.
Anything sound familiar?
Thanks, in advance!
Hi! I have a Johanna (or anna/ hanna) Griffin(en) in my line. She would be my gggg grandmother. She married Michael Mcgrath. I think she was born around 1825. I have her in Yonkers, NY from 1860-1880. Her and Michael had Bridget Mcgrath who married William Thomas Drohan, a Mary McGrath who married a john or patsy kelley, and a Michael Mcgrath who married Catherine Morrissey. I also have information leading me to believe Johanna had a brother "poppy" Griffin. Poppy lived at 33 Parker Street Yonkers New York and when Johanna came from Ireland She lived at 39 Parker street Yonkers New York.

I figure it was due to the fact I didn't know Elizabeth's maiden name. So, I couldn't run any variations. Do you know if their George immigrated to NYC ?

Danielle

John C. and Julia Ballard Griffin

I am searching for Julia Ballard (3rd ggrand mother) who married John Chatham Griffin in Morgan County, Georgia 9-1-1852. They had several children, one was my 2nd ggrand mother Anna Griffin Nall. Anna's 1949 death certificate shows parents as John Griffin and (unknown) Ballard. One reference I found on line lists John' s wife as Mary Ballard. They did have a daughter Mary who married Robert Lee Marshall.

I found Julia and John on the 1860 census in Paulding County, Georgia and the 1870 census in Henry County, Georgia. In 1880 Julia is not listed so I assume she died about 1872.

I found a list of burials in the John C. Griffin Cemetery in Spalding County, Georgia (once part of Henry County)and based on names listed it is the correct family.

There is a Julia buried there but it appears she is an infant b. 3-20-1872 d. 7-31-1872 unless someone recorded the dates incorrectly. There are also 3 unmarked graves in the cemetery. John C. was buried there in 1901 according to his obit but there is not a listing for him either in the information I have found . Anna's husband A. C. Nall is also buried in the cemetery. Anna is buried in Crestlawn Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.

If anyone has information about this family please let me know. I am glad to share info.
UPDATE
In the 1880 census (very shortly after immigrating to Boston) William is living next to door to a Michael Griffin (wife Hannah) who's children have the same names-in birth order- of William's children and I suspect he may be a brother of William's however acc. to William's death cert his parents are John and Mary (Murry) Griffin and Michael's are Bartholomew and Johanna (O'Brien) (there is also a John living in Boston (death 1869) who lists Bartholomew and Johanna as his parents) BOTH named their eldest son Bartholomew and the eldest girl Hannah/Johanna so I'm thinking his death cert is incorrect (also hired a genealogical research co in Ireland to due a prelim search and came up empty but mentioned there was a William born to a Bartholomew Griffin....) if anyone has any info on Bartholomew and Johanna (susposedly Cty Cork-Cloghane Bandon area) please let me know
jan.griffinhazlett@gmail.com

I am trying to find a death record for Joshua Griffin, born 1827 in Maryland. He married Mary Ann Long 1853 in Maryland. They lived in Bureau County, Illinois for quite some time, then relocated to Precinct K, District 0168 or 0468, Seward, Nebraska according to the 1900 census. Does anybody have knowledge of Joshua's place and date of death? There are numerous Joshua Griffins, many wrongly recorded as from his particular group of people. I have records of all but the 1890 census with the correct family to 1900.

James Allen Griffin born in Illinois Sept. 5, 1921 Died Fort Walton, FL 1983

If you can help, please reply to my email address: francescacumero@yahoo.com. I borrow my aunt's account to do research, so email is best, thanks.

I am trying to locate the relatives of James Allen Griffith. When he joined the Army during WWII, he went by James Allen Griffith Jr. He re-enlisted in 1946 for the Army Air Corps and as near as I can tell, stayed in the service for another 20+ years. When he re-enlisted in 1946, he did so in the Army Air Corps for the Hawaiian Department, so he could have served in Hawaii or in the South Pacific and most likely served in the Korean War if he was career military. During WWII, he was stationed in or near Iceland and met a man from Canada (not sure if he was in Canada when he met him). He left a lot of personal things with the Canadian he met, including a family bible, saying he'd be back for them. He never returned and the Canadian fellow always wondered what happened to him. He attempted to find him over the years to return his things, but both he and his daughter were unsuccessful. Before he died, he asked his daughter to keep looking and try to get the things back to his family. She found my website, Angelo's WWII Angels www.ww2tags.org and asked for my help.

I am waiting for an email from the Fort Walton Beach PL regarding his obit, if one was published, but thought I'd write to this board in the hope that someone can help me. In the family bible he left behind, these names are listed: Mr. and Mrs. James W. Griffin. Miss Lana Moore Griffin. His nearest relative is listed as Helen J (or T?) Griffin at 1312 Lauderdale Street, Memphis, TN. As far as I can tell, James lived in TN and FL. Not sure what other states he might have lived in. At the time of his re-enlistment in 1946, he was listed as "DIVORCED". I have found very few records because he passed away February 3, 1983 in Fort Walton Beach. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

Mary is the sister of my great-grandmother Bridget. Their parents were Edmund Moriarty and Kate (Catherine) Kennedy. They were also married in Ballymore in 1838.

I do not have any info on the family, but the griffin family cemetery is located off of Old Griffin Rd here in Dallas GA. A very old cemetary you can not see from the road. we found it after walking in the woods behind our house. Ezekeil, his wife Marry Ann Berry, their son Jessie, along with other un marked stones are all burried here.

I am unsure of the exact time that he came to Alabama. I do know that he remarried here in 1820. He had John, Lorenzo and Thacker Griffin with his first wife Mary.
