Griffiths was living in the household of Joseph Allott and Lavinia Mildren. Lavinia's older brother, Richard L. Mildren, and his wife lived next door. Neither couple had children of their own. On the other side of the Allott household lived Joseph's father or uncle, William Allott, and his family.

Joseph was listed as a nephew to Joseph and Lavinia Allott in the 1880 census.

After Joseph Allott's death Lavinia married James B. (Nora was a widow in 1910 in Broadwater; 1920 lived next door to Joe in Cherry Co; and in 1900 she was in Kansas with husband Frank.) Kathryn is listed as being 9 years old in 1920 and born in Colorado. - [In Nebraska girls had to be 16 years old to get married with their parents permission or 21 without permission. Colorado was 12 with, 18 without. A lot of Nebraska girls went to Colorado to get married if under age in Nebraska, or if they were pregnant. They would stay there until a few months after the baby was born, then return with their 'big' baby.]
Joe registered with the draft 5 June 1917 in Cherry County. He worked on his dad's farm. He had a wife and 2 kids. This would indicate that his dad must have moved from Morrill County to Cherry County after 9 May 1910 and before 5 June 1917.

THOMAS WATSON GRIFFITHS was born 22 Oct 1895 in Lincoln, Lancaster, Nebraska.

Hoping to get more Griff...'s to DNA test. The FTDNA company has a reduced price window of opportunity from now until midnight Dec.31. "Y" chromosome DNA testing for this next 6 weeks is $119 for 37 markers and $199 for 67 markers. While it is better to do the most markers one can afford, the 37 marker test will at least tell you which Griff general line the descendant comes from if other descendants in common have tested. Note the weblink below for joining the Griff DNA project and the reduced costs in Red. I don't have stock in this company, nor any financial gain but do hope to compare more Lineages scientifically, thus find connections we never knew existed, probably back to Europe. -Allan Griffith
http://www.familytreedna.com/group-join.aspx?Group=Griffith

Then the DNA website with test results, family photos is:
http://www.griffith.dna.rdgriffith.com/

Hello, In reply to your query about Griffiths in Charters Towers I am descended from a Jack Griffiths (Grandfather)I believe also known as John Griffiths. My father was William Lawrence Griffiths born in Charters Towers. To John & Rachel (nee Matthews) Griffiths.
Just wondered if my Grandfathers full name might have been William John Griffiths.
I'm interested in connecting with my Father's and Grandfather's family in Charters Towers. They are both deceased now.
Christina Eason (nee Griffiths)
Hervey Bay. Qld. 41244496

I know for sure my gr grandfather had my grandfather in Eturia, Staff. ( Frederick W. Griffiths) and my gr grandfathers was Edward William Griffiths b. abt 1839 and was a plate roller at the Sheffield silver plating factory. I need more proof which edward was mine as there are a few from the area. I believe I have his father a James and Mary on the census, James was born in Minsterworth 1809. I am reasonably sure it is him because there is a "Whitehead" at the house, and the name has been in the family for 150 years. Not really knowing these places and area, it is hard for me to be certain. Are you from the UK? Thanks

GRIFFITHS/GRIFFITH/GRIFFIS in LLanbrynmair to Pennsylvania

The 1841 Lllanbrynmair census lists:
Jane (JONES) GRIFFITH age 35
Susan age (10)
Dorthy (8)
Jane (6)
Ann (4)
and twins Hannah & Elinor (2)

I have found all of the daughters' baptisms in Llanbrynmair.

For 10+ years I was looking for Jane's husband, Richard GRIFFITH's death record because he was not in the 1841 census with his family.

I have recently discovered that Richard and his family were in America in Pittston, Pennsylvania in the 1850 census (thanks to the asterisk - GRIF* search):
Richard Griffis (51)
Jane (48)
Jane (17)
Ann (14)
twin Eleanor Griffes (11) is living in another house in Pittston (Did eleven year old girls get married that young back then? Or was she working?)

No twin Hannah
No Susan
Dorathy was already married to John P. Bowen in Carbondale, PA.

So, maybe Richard GRIFFITHS was in America during the 1841 Wales census? And then he sent for, or went back and got his family before the 1850 Pittston census.

However, I have lost the family again. By the 1860 census they have disappeared.

Only Dorathy (Griffith) Bowen eventually shows up in the 1870 census in Iowa.

But, where was everybody in 1860? Where did they all go? And how did they all get to America because I haven't found them on any passenger list?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

I am not a blood relative of the Griffiths family but am related by marriage. Another person has mentioned the Griffiths Mill in Chester. I am pretty sure this was started by a Robert Griffiths but this would have been the one born 1850 or earlier not 1882. His family had been in the corn business for years, I think his father died young. The business was known as Griffiths Brothers (Liverpool & Chester). There was a preference in the family for the first born male to be christened William but not neccesarily for using the name. The Grif. I knew lived 1907-1986 and was William Eric Griffiths, son of William Griffiths, son of Robert Griffiths, I think. WEG's sister was Nellie so there is a fit with the names there too.

Hello

I see that you have been researching the above couple.I have also been researching them and wonder if you have been able to find out more on them. I have them on all the censuses from 1851 through to 1901. Charles was a cordwainer (shoe maker/cobbler). According to the censuses, the children shown on there are a little different from what you have, they show:
1851 Census - Charles Griffiths aged 4 months
1861 Census - (Charles who should be 10 not there),
Richard 7, Samuel 5 and Dorothy 2
1871 Census - Richard, Dorothy, Thomas, Elizabeth, Albert
and Harry
1881 Census - Thomas, Elizabeth, Albert and Fanny
1891 Census missing
1901 Census Charles 78, Charlotte 74 and Henry aged 31
it does say Henry was their son.

I just wonder if you have any further info.
Paul James Griffiths, of Finleyville,

Paul J. Griffiths
Finleyville

Paul James Griffiths, of Finleyville,
born May 31, 1925,
left this world Sunday, June 5, 2011,
at Mt. Auburn Hospital, Boston, Mass.,
with his three children, thankful at being together, as always, beside him. He was the beloved husband of Marian Violet (Kennedy) Griffiths for 50 years. Our father was very loving and greatly loved by his surviving children, their spouses and children, Carolyn Lee Griffiths, MA, MBA and sons, James Henry Ziese and Charles Kennedy Ziese, Dr. Jeffrey Kennedy Griffiths, Jane Ellen Lappin and son, Peter Lappin Griffiths, and Sara Alexis Griffiths Butler, MA, ABD, Dr. Wayne Butler and their children, Alexis Marie Butler, Lld, and Ian Griffiths Butler. He is also survived by the children (Thomas Maxwell Ralph Jr. and Paula Ralph McNerney) and families of his sister and her husband, Sara Griffiths Ralph and Thomas Maxwell Ralph. He is mourned by his family and many special friends who brought happiness into his life. Jim was born at his family home on Scotia Hollow Road, to Paul Joseph Griffiths and Iva Belle (Lewis) Griffiths and their daughter, Sara. He graduated from Clairton High School in 1943 and went on to Penn State. He enlisted in the Navy, rising to Lieutenant Griffiths, while he obtained his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of Illinois. His overseas life of adventure began as a petroleum engineer for Gulf Oil Co., in Venezuela, where he became exceptionally fluent in Spanish. He returned to the States to wed Marian on Aug. 18,1951. They went to Cambridge where Carolyn was born in Boston, and he received his master's degree in business administration from the Harvard University Graduate School of Business in 1953. They returned to the oil fields of Maracaibo, Venezuela, with White Eagle International, where Jeff was born. Following this, the family moved to Havana for four years, before, during and after the Castro Revolution. Jim was the president of six oil companies and the owner of a poultry concern. Sara was born a year prior to our departure for Canada and later, Midland, Texas (complete with horny toads and tumbleweed!). In the ensuing years Jim and Marian worked, traveled and lived throughout the US and Latin America in Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Nicaragua and Mexico for the accounting firm of Haskins and Sells, Deloitte Plender, Griffiths and Co. While working for Turner International he circumlocated the globe twice, then finally returned to his family home. They opened their home to Carolyn and her sons in 1995, where Carolyn and Charles still reside. Years later, prior to his departure from the area, he was given a lovely farewell luncheon, attended by some of his closest friends, which deeply touched him. His last home was with Sara and her family in the warmth of Austin, Texas. His final week was spent in Boston with Jeff and his family and incoming daughters and grandsons. This was a week of celebrations... for his 86th birthday and very especially grandson Peter's bar mitzvah and evening dinner dance on June 4, 2011. We kissed him goodnight and wished him sweet dreams. The inurnment of the ashes for Jim and Marian will take place from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson Memorial Mausoleum. Kindly meet at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME at 2 p.m. to easily arrive together. This will be followed by a memorial celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. at the JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME.
(Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh Tribune)
I found an old photo of the man who was a representative for my grandfather when he immigrated to America in the early 1920's, Tim Griffiths lived in Wylam, Jefferson County, Alabama, and was originally from Wales. My grandfather, a coal miner, may have even stayed with the Griffiths family when he arrived in the Birmingham area.
If you are related to Mr. Griffiths and would like this photo, just let me know.
