SEARCHING FOR MY GRANDFATHER'S FAMILY

My grandfather's name was Guiseppi Grimaldi. He was born in Napoli, Italy. He traveled to the Dominican Republic and met my grandmother Mercedes Suriel and married her. They had sons and one daughter; Dante Grimaldi, Orlando Grimaldi, Oswaldo Grimaldi, Salvador Grimaldi, Carmela Grimaldi. He had a jewerly business in Venezuela along with a family business (yacht company). I never met my grandfather because he died in Venezuela. My father, Salvador Grimaldi, came to the US back in the 60s. We have lived in Brooklyn, the Bronx N.Y. and several places in New Jersey. I am currently residing in Florida. I would like to trace my family tree and some day meet my grandfather's family. Any of this seems familiar to any Grimaldi?

Dear Eileen,
My name is Ardell and I was born in Brooklyn in 1948, I am retired and live in Scotland. I have never really looked for my father's family before because I just thought it was hopeless but I just happened to read what you wrote about your uncle the inventor. My father, albert grimaldi was supposed to be an inventor, from NY and was only married to my mother Martha Morton for a short time, she was living in Queens at the time. As far as I know my father never knew he had a child as my mother ran away to Georgia and came back to brooklyn when I was born. My mother would not tell me anything much but complained that my father would get drunk and bring his cousins by but I really think it was all an issue of religion. Hope to hear from you, regards, Ardell

I have been in Italy this summer. I have visited the Santopadre cimentery...and there is so many Grimaldi tombs. A lot of Grimaldi live at Santopadre or near, they are all cousins, uncles...but it is very dificult to know who is who. A part of Grimaldi family (mine) have immigrated near Lyon in France. My father told my one member of our family emmigrated to Australia too.
so, it is very very dificult to have information.

My grandfather Domenico Grimaldi was born in Santopadre in 1871. He had a brother Fortunato and a sister Maria - they all emigrated to England in early 1900's. Their parents were Pasquale Grimaldi and Pasqua di Megno. I would be interested to know if they had any brothers or sisters who stayed in Italy or who emigrated elsewhere.

I'm not sure of my Great Grandfather's name but it may have been Carmelo.

I am looking for my roots from Catania, Sicily. My great grandfather was Santo Grimaldi who had four children, Catherina, Grazia, Andrew and Anthony who all came to America in the early 1900's. Grazia (Grace) came at age 7. She was my grandmother who I never got to meet. Died at a young age when my mother was only 4. Any information on this line of Grimaldi's would be so helpful.

Hi,
I'm doing research on the Concilio Family, and I was wondering what you know about them. I'm specifically interested in those that came from Scafati, Salerno, in particular, a Frank (abt 1870), and Pietro (abt 1889). Thanks a bunch!

Would appreciate information on Giacomo Corti born in 1880 in Italy, but do not know where. His parents were Rosaria Poalino and his father was Joseph Corti. Giacomo married my grandmother in 1904 in NYC and died in 1950. I can not find any record of his arrival to NYC or when that was. He had a brother named William but do not know if he had any other siblings. Can anyone give me any information or how to check any other ports of entry in America on the east coast. Thank you

Hi Peg:
I believe we are related. My grandfather was Alberto Vincent Grimaldi. My grandmother was Nicolena Amodea Grimaldi. They had a son Albert, daughters, Amelia, Roxanne, and Anna Maria Grimaldi. They all lived on Staten Island. Uncle Al was married to several women. Uncle Mike Amodea was married to my aunt Mary and they would come to Georgia in the summer and visit with us. I hated Uncle MIke's cigars! Ha...Aunt Mary was short in stature and I always loved her homemade raviolis. Aunt Roxanne did live in Tampa in mid to late 50's. I can remember my mother having to go down ther to take care of her a few times. My mother Anna married Stanley Barmen from Staten Island. We lived in Augusta, Ga. most of our lives. I have a sister Elizabeth Ann "Cookie" Barmen Peverini who lives in Phoenix, Az. Uncle Al was an inventor however, he drank and so did his wife. He is dead now as is Aunt Roxanne and my mother and father. My only child, Charlie Deer is now living on Staten Island at 181 Elizabeth St. My husband Carl Deer died in 2005. I live in Jesup, GA. and am moving back to Augusta this summer after I retire from the school system. My Aunt Amelia Dorney who calls herself Terry Dorney lives in Valley Stream and is 85 years old and ailing. I have tried to find any of my grandfather's family for a long time. Charlie and I went to Rome, Italy this past summer, but couldn't get to Naples to check the family because of the crime being so bad there. We were told by the Finance Minister not to go to Naples at that time. I sure hope we are related and can correspond and eventually meet. My address is: 112 Ruggle-Stone Drive,
Jesup, GA. 31546. PHone: 912-530-9763 Wk: 912-=427-1077,
Cell: 912-816-0623. We are also related to the Creschitos who had a restaurant on Staten Island. Let me hear from you.

A possible cousin,
Eileen Barmen Deer

Thanks for that but my grandfather did not have a son with my grandmother. However, it has been said that he was an inventor. Other than knowing that he was Catholic, which is why they split, I do not know anything about his family. Perhaps you could give me his DOB and I can somehow check for a marriage certificate. Its very difficult looking for them without a DOB and my grandma refuses to provide any further info. Many thanks...

Uncle Al was an inventor and a real rogue. He died in Nevada about 6 years ago. He died destitute. I don't know if this is the Alberto Grimaldi you are looking for.
Giovanni:
Here is what I know of my family tree:

Alberto Vincent Grimaldi (my grandfather)
Vincenzo Grimaldi (my great grandfather)

Vincenzo married Gaetano Sallilto of somewhere in Genoa.
They were aristocrats and spoke Ligurian.

Alberto Vincent Grimaldi married Nicolena Amodea.
Nicolena's parents were Giuseppe Amodea and Anna Rumolo.

This is as far as i can get. I have a genealogist Joe DeSimone from Avellino working on this also for me. He is the one who
found my grandmother's birth records in Auletta.

My mother remembers my grandfather telling her he was a Papal Guard and participated in some Revolution at the turn of the century. He was also a detective with the Carabinieri before he came to the U.S. My mother's aunt Mary Amodea had a picture of him in his uniform and I have seen it as a child.

My grandfather told her he came to the U.S. because his parents wanted him to marry some girl in their social circle and he did not love her and left. The family had an estate on the outskirts of Naples and grew Olives.

He also told my mother that they were related to "that Monaco bunch" but never told her how they were related. I imagine they were cousins of some sort.

I would be interested in knowing your family line as well.

Thanks.

Eileen Deer

I was led to believe that the film producer
Alberto Grimaldi is related to me. However, I have no proof of this.
My grandmother's family comes from Auletta . They are the Amodeo's (Amodea's?). I can't remember how it is spelled. Another family name is Rumolo (my gr father's mother was a Rumolo) from Naples, I think. My grandfather's family was aristocracy of Naples and lived on an olive farm outside of the city in a big house. Please write to me as I would like to get all the information I can before I go to Italy next June. Thank you for responding to my inquiry.

Sincerely,

Eileen B. Deer, M.Ed.
