This is Rosa Grimm's granddaughter,Judy.I am Ted's sister, daughter of Ted and Claire Lutz. My children are Richard,Jessica,Jaime,Rachel. We lived with your grandmother( Aunt Lilian and grandfather ( Uncle Herb ) when I was around 4 or 5 while looking for a place to live in the Detroit area. Buddy was always doing his yo yo tricks when we got together and I was amazed at what he could do.I did not know that my Dad's sisters had a different last name,so that is definately something to search. My father Theodore was born in 1906 so I think they all came to the United state around 1912-1913.Two of the sisters,Hilda(FiFi) and Alice married brothers. Both were Fosters.I will dig and see if I can find more. I think I met you when you were about 2 years old!

Hi Darlene,

This is Jaime. I am one of Judy's daughters (Ted's niece ... who posted earlier).

Judy (born in 1946) has four children. Rick, Jessica, Jaime, and Rachel. My grandparents (Theodore Lutz and Claire) retired in Cheboygan, MI. Hoppies restaurant that you referenced is in our hometown ... we know it well and the staff knows our family well ... know doubt you may look like my older sister Jessica who was born in 1972!

I currently live in Germany and have visited Solingen twice over the last few years. I visited the city records office and requested historical records on our family but haven't had luck yet ... the communication gap is a problem. :)

My grandfather and mother have both told us the same story of Rosa Grimm being of relation ... as well as loose relation by marriage to Ford. How wonderful!

Blessings to you and please keep in touch!

Jaime

Hello Dan!

I'm happy to talk with you again. I wanted to write when I finally gained membership in the DAR, but felt it was too much like bragging. Really, it was a humbling experience to become part of such a great line of people.

I've given up looking for my George's parents. I followed so many red herrings, I'm finally done with the search for them.

How are things going for you?
Hello Virginia, This is Dan, long time no talk. I replied to her other post concerning Isaiah Grim. He is my George Grim's son via his marriage with Susannah Davis/Slease/Grim.

This would make him your Isaac's nephew and Grandson of George Grim and Elizabeth Collins Grim.

Hope you have been well

Dan

Nephews/Cousins of Grimm Brothers

I have been able to trace my ancestry back to Peter Grimm who was born in Dorrenbach, Germany in 1809. Since Jacob had no children and Wilhelm had no child named Peter, I'm supposing Peter was a nephew or cousin of the Grimm Brothers (my mother has always told us we were related to the Grimm Brothers). Does anyone have any information regarding the nephews and/or cousins of the Grimm Brothers?

Michelle

I, too, am descended from a Peter Grimm who was born in Dorrenbach, Germany in 1809. He had a son named George who married Christina (from France) and they moved to Evansville, Indiana at some point. My trail ends with Peter. Could they be the same? Do you have any further ancestral information?

Michelle

As yours is the most recent post and you seem to have the most direct connection, maybe you could help me with my tracing. I've been told all my life that I'm a descendant of the Grimm brothers but I can't find the connection.

I've traced back to Peter Grimm born in Dorrenbach, Germany in 1809. I cannot find his ascendants or brothers or cousins. I'm guessing he was a cousin of the Grimm brothers since he was alive at the same time (they were born in 1785 and 1786) and, as far as I can tell, Jacob had no children and Wilhelm had no child named Peter.

Peter had a son named George in 1834. George married Christina (no last name known) who was born in France. Of course, the Grimm brothers spent a good deal of time in France. At some point, they moved to Evansville, Indiana. They had a daughter, Amelie, who married Joseph Currie and they moved to Louisiana and had a daughter named Christina who married Rene Derouen (a US Congressman). They had a daughter, Lola, who married Victor Dupuis. They had a daughter, Ellen, my mother.

Do you know who the Grimm Brothers nephews were? Their cousins? Anything would help!

Michelle

Christoph GRIMM in Hesse-Darmstadt

I am searching for the origins of Christoph GRIMM, b. abt 1673. He first shows up in the village of Arnshain, Hesse-Darmstadt in 1699, and died there 23 Sep 1748. His wife was Elisabetha RAUSCH. They had 9 children, only 2 made it to adulthood.

Where was he born, who were his parents? And like just about every GRIMM researcher I've met, family lore says he was related to the Brothers Grimm. I don't care so much about that, would just like to know where he was from.

Susan

Dear cousin Ted,

You woud my father's first cousin - is that correct? Oh, yes, he is Buddy! I bet your in that picture he has with all of the cousins when he was one of the little ones; I think, besides Cynthia.

Buddy is getting old. He just turned 75 and has been hospitalized three times within the last year with either heart or breathing problems. If you want to see some really fun pictures of him when he was a kid; go to Mr. Yo Yo.com. I think that's the name of the website. Bob Rule created it and it's for all of the "famous players of the 40's and 50's" who worked and traveled around the world selling Duncan. There are some really amazing pictures of my dad.

I'm sorry to hear your father and mother passed (aunt Ruth?). I assumed, as my grandfather was the youngest and passed away quite some time ago. I think he almost made it to 89.

I have heard from my father that your parent's lived up in the Indian River area when I went to Burt Lake for a vacation and went to a restaraunt called Hoppies in a small town called Topinabee and the staff kept telling me I had a twin somewhere, who I thought they said worked there at one time, or was from town. Maybe your niece is around my age and maybe we share some family looks!

I told my mother when I came home and she said she thought that your sister Judy had a daughter around my age and that she taught dance? Uncle Donald and his wife are both still alive but not so well either.

Where do you live? My parents are in Pinckney still after we moved from Detroit and I am going through a bad divorce and am currently staying with them and trying to get my dad to use the computer. That's why I set his gmail account up with his name and birthday but he still makes me do all of the work. Maybe someday.

I am new to Ancestry myself and I'm not sure if the information I requested about Rosa Grimm came because the two of us inquired. It sounds like she was born in 1805, as Elisabeth Henriattea Rosalia Grimm? If that is her?

This has been difficult because the girls all had a different father and I'm not sure who came over from Germany. I guess it would have been the second husband; Lutz, since the boys were all little. Do you know who the girls father was and what happened to him? Maybe I'm wrong but I thought they had different fathers.

I remember they went to Freemont, Ohio from Germany. My grandpa used to talk about that. My grandpa Herb also said something about an uncle Ollie (spelling?) who stayed in German and was killed. He said everyone who stayed was killed in the war. He also said he had uncles who had to fight in the army for Germany.

Do you have any children? And does your sister Judy, besides a daughter? How old are they? I would love to know where everyone is at and keep in touch.

Thank you for responsding. Do you think that is the right Rosa Grimm? As, you said, I am new to this also.

I heard she was related to the story tellers; the Brother's Grimm. I wonder if that's true.

Keep in touch and God Bless you and your family

Sincerely,

Darlene Lutz (born in 1966)

My grandmother was Rosa Lutz, My Dad was Thedore, and my uncles were Henry, Herb, and John, Aunts, Hilda, Alice, Betty. I am guessing that by your message that you are either Donald's or Buddy's daughter. Donald and Buddy are my cousins. So Herb and Lillian were your grandparents. I am Theodore John Lutz and Judy Ann is my sister. She is married to Louis Reichlin and the live in Indian River, MI.

My mom and dad lived in Mullet Lake, Michigan and died there after 30 plus years of retirement there. Your grandmother and grandfather visited mom and dad on many occasions. I found a reference to Rosa Grimm Lutz and it lead me to Ancentry. I new at this and am not sure as to start a correspondence.

Sincerely,

Ted

Glad to hear from you and as a matter of fact I was in Cologne for a Meuwissen Family Reunion on July 9 and today there is a Schwalbe Reunion at the American Legion Hall in Waconia. I wish I had seen your post sooner. My grandmother Ida Grimm married Traugott Schwalbe ( actually her older sister Emma was married to him first until she died). I am unable to attend todays event since I had hip replacement in May and had some problems this week, but I do have quite a bit of information on the Grimm family that so many nice Grimm family members have shared. I will be glad to share it with you. I am on my daughter's computer because mine is in the Geek Shop and all of my info is on it, but I will go to my back up and see what I can find for you. I live in Northern MN, are you anywhere in MN as it would be fun to meat another cousin in person?
Carol Pratt

My great grandmother was Rosa Grimm (somehow related to "the brother's Grimm." She married twice, I believe. My grandfather-her youngest son was born in 1914 and was named Herbert Wolfgang Lutz. There was also Theordore Lutz, Henrich Lutz, and Yohan Lutz. There was also three or four girls but I think they were from the first husband and had different last names? I know the girls names were; Hilda, Betty and Alice. I know Hilda married a man with the last name of Foster and Alice had only one daughter; named Analese Kuehn. Is any one related? I think my great-grandmother-Rosa-was originally from Prussia but moved to this country from Solinger, Germany to Fremont Ohio and then Detroit, Michigan. One of her children, Yohan (John Lutz) married Henry Ford's niece; Evelynn Ford, who was my great aunt and aunt Eevelyn and uncle John had four girls; Sally, Edna-June, Nancy and Cynthia-who are alive; except Sally. The girls are probaly in their mid-late 60's or early 70's.???

My GG Grandfather was Charles Henry Grim(m) B. 1-4-1822 (I think in Germany), D. 10-10-1879 (PA). I know he was here in the US by the time his first child was born in 1842, but cannot find any records at all - maybe by some chance he was actually born in the US. He married Catherine Wiseman, lived mostly in Beaver County (Freedom), PA except for about five years prior to the Civil War. He is listed on the Augusta, GA census in 1860. The family were boat builders and we suspect he took the family to Georgia to build boats for the South and then came back before the Civil War started. Several of his children were born in Augusta. Any of this sound familiar?? I am at a dead loss! Thanks, (possible cousin) Marianne

If I am reading this correctly, David Grimm was born in 1773 in the USA, married in 1797 and died 1816-1865?
IMO, you need a lot more information, especially his mother and father's name and the country and town in which they were born.

BIrth and baptismal records would give you the father's first name and probably the mother's maiden name. Their marriage record could you their parents names and maybe where they were born.

Larry

Was your ancestor born in Germany or Alsace. If Germany I would go to www.familysearch.org. When I filtered by Germany Births and Baptisms, 1558-1898, I found 458 hits for David Grimm. If he was from Alsace, I'm sure you are aware that Grimm is a very common name in Bas-Rhin region.....although David Grimm is not so common. Do you has a birth date and/or a town he lived in. I was able to learn that my ancestor was from Weiler which made the search pretty easy.

You could also try http://en.geneanet.org/search/. It is a French Genealogy site. Many, many Grimm's on this site. Takes some time to learn the navigation secrets but worth the effort. I have tracked my ancestors back to 1500's with help from GeneaNet.

Larry

My mother, Elza Williams (nee Grimm), always told me that we were descended from the Brothers Grimm. Her father, Petre Grimm, was a university professor in Cluj, Romania but whose parents had originated in Germany. I would be interested to know if the family history given to me and my brother was true.
