Diary of Rachel Grissell

Hello everyone,

I am looking for a copy or transcription of Rachel Grissell's (born March 29 1832 in Richland Co Ohio to Almira (White) and Thomas Grissell) full diary. Excerpts of the diary are in the book "Grissell and Lewis Families Biography". The book states the diary was "in the possession of her daughter, Viola F. Beall". I am hoping the full diary will give reference to her grandfather, Benjamin White. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Am researching on a branch of my mother's family (Corrigan & Swallow) and need info on a Hiram L. Grisell/Grissell. He was born in Indiana abt 1847. There were 2 Hiram grisell in the Census records from Jay County, Indiana. The one I'm interested in is Hiram L. Grisell/Grissell. He eventually moved to Christian County, Missouri. I'm looking for his parents.

He first appears in the 1860 Jay County (Ind.) Census at age 12, living with the Samuel & Ann Grissell family, but he does NOT appear in that family in the 1850 Census.

There is a Hiram & Sarah Grisell in the 1850 with a son with name of Lawrence (2) who could be the Hiram L. I'm looking for. If someone could confirm or correct me, I'd be very appreciative.

Martin GRISSELL b cir 1815 Germany, wife Eleanor

I'm trying to find information on a man who is said to have been one of my great, great, great grandfathers. What little information I do have on him came to me by way of my paternal grandmother, Christina Elizabeth Baker. According to my grandmother the father of her grandmother (Christina Grissell b. Dec. 10, 1841, in or near Wiesbaden, Germany or Prussia) was a man named MARTIN GRISSELL. He is said to have been born about 1815 in Germany, presumably near or in Weisbaden, however, 1815 is simply a guess. His wife's name is said to have been Eleanor.

His daughter, Christina Grissell, was married to Charles Baker (or Boeker), in what appears to have been an arranged marriage. Charles was living in the United States and sent for her and they were married here in the U.S. She emigrated to the U.S. in 1865 according to her 1920 census record. Her maiden name is said to have been Grissell, but it may have been spelled as Graessel or Krissel.

Can anyone here on this forum provide any help at all on this family line? Any assistance would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks.

Yes, Kelly, there are Krissel's near Wiesbaden! You should ask the Genealogical Society for Nassau in Wiesbaden (e-mail: poststelle@hhstaw.hessen.de). You should tell them everything you know, especielly if your ancestors were catholic or protestant.

Thank you for your kind suggestion, Mr. Fischer. I will do that. I only hope they will be able to understand English, as I certainly do not know how to write to them in German. Thanks again for your help here.
