Hi Eddie

Just quickly - the Richard Grove brother to my Florence was born in 1897. All the children are with Richard & Eliza on the 1911 census except my Florence and her sister Mabel who are already married.

There is no Stanley in this family. Wonder if that is a different family?

Are you sure about your Grandfather's DOB - could this be a different family to my Florence?

Regards

Dawn

Looking for parents and siblings of Samuel Grove b. 01 Nov 1819, OH, d. 11 May 1899 Daviess county, MO and his wife Mary Ann Shover b. 18 Nov 1821, PA, d. 02 May 1902, Daviess county, MO. They married 04 June 1840 Licking county, OH.
From an 1847 Licking county, OH deed I know that Samuel's father's name was also Samuel Grove as they sold their undived tenth as heirs at law of Samuel Grove, deceased. So at that time Samuel must have had at least 8 siblings still alive? But I have not been able to find out who they were, (probate records were destroyed by fire).
For Mary Ann Shover the Elizabeth Shover age 85 living with them in Daviess county, MO on the 1880 census may be her mother?
I am descended from their son James Harvey Grove b. 04 June 1843, Licking county, OH. Any help appreciated and am always willing to share info.

My ggg-grandfather David Mingle (1784-1872) lived for a few years in 1820s in Mifflinburg PA; his first wife was Catherine Grove (1799-1824) daughter of Andrew and Barbara Grove.
I would like to know more about Andrew and his family. Was Andrew related to the famous Indian-fighting Grove brothers? I have researched the early census records (found him in Union county and Heidelberg Dauphin Ct). I have read various board threads, the Buffalo Valley annals and other internet info about the Groves of Union County, but I cannot connect my Andrew Grove to these Groves. (Several later Mingles have middle names of ‘Grove’, e.g. Samuel Grove Mingle and Edward Grove Mingle.)
If anyone can point me to the proper sources I would appreciate it.
Jeff

John Preston Grove + Sara Francis Everman

I am working on a tree for a friend, and I have become stuck rather early on on John Preston Grove and Sara Francis Everman. My friend comes from their (apparent) son, Gibson Everett Grove, who was born in 1901 in Iowa and died in 1964 in Idaho. His father John supposedly comes from Ohio (born about 1847) and the mother from Kentucky (born about 1840 - which seems off).

Does anyone have either of these two in their trees? Or perhaps there are some other ID Groves around who can help me? Thank you

David A. Grove Memorial in Willow Creek CA?

I am in receipt of an article that appeared in the Mahoning Co. Meanderings published in the May 1994 volume. David was born in Lordstown, Ohio in 1827 and was married briefly to Rhonda Pierce. He left to go to California during the gold rush. He died in China Flat in March of 1878.

This article mentions a memorial to him in Willow Creek CA in Humboldt Co. There was evidently a ceremony . My husband and I spent time there last week trying to find where the unmarked grave might be and where the memorial is located. Duane Bradford evidently had information but I have been unable to locate him. Any help would be appreciated

Kathleen Grove Leveroni

Re: Is the Grove surname of German origin?

I don't know if all Grove families were German, but my Grove family in PA were orginally Groff, not Grove, and came from Germany. I think that my be true of many Grove families. That may be why you cannot find the origin of the Grove name on the internet, because it is not an original name. If I can be of any help let me know. We've been trying to scan in and add pics for the family tree & eventually publish it. Hope you had a great Christmas. - Fred

Same here. Mine is traced to Gloucester, England. Could be Dutch, English, or German, however most of them Americanized them to simply Groves, Grove, etc.

I was told by a cousin that my great grandfather Henry Cyrus Grove born in Indiana had changed his name from an original German spelling similar to Groeff. But have also run into a dead end in finding any records on him prior to 1930 census. If your track the corrected spelling let me know. Hope this help a little.
