My grandmother Barbara Helene Gruber was daughter to Francis Gruber, born 1826 in Kutna Hora, Bohermia, came to Oswego, Ny. and then settled in St. Paul, Nebraska where he had bakery, restaurant and hardware store. His wife was Francesca F. Seaman.
I would like to know what ship he arrived on and into what port, and of course any living relatives on this side of the family.

Murriel,
Christian Gruber's (1771) son, Christian (1824) was one of the first settlers of Allen County, Indiana. He married Mary House Of Preble County, Ohio. Christian's mother was Betsy Ruble, 2nd wife of Christian, Sr. Several of the other Gruber children from both of the first two marriages eventually moved to Allen County.

I have very little information on Betsy. She married in Fairfield County in 1815 and died in Pickaway County, probably in 1831. Christian remarried for the third time in late 1831.
Patricia

Hello all!
I does seem like there were MANY siblings early on, back to early 1800's at least, maybe it would be most helpful if we could share the EARLIEST info we have on each of our lines?

My direct line of Gruber/Grober was Johann Freidrich August Grober, b 1798 from somewhere in Saxony(and parts Thuringia), but his 10 children all went different directions. It's likely a SIBLING of his, at some as yet unverified point, intermarried with other families from Bavaria, Alsace, France, Mecklenburg, and possibly even Berlin. Associated family names are: LEIENBERGER, SPANHEIMER, ZIPFEL, SIEGEL, FICKLER, HOBLER, LOEFFLER, STREESE, WIECHMANN, BAUER, and others. While my direct line seems to have been mostly in Wisconsin, they definitely had cousins also in the Buffalo, Erie NY areas as well, so it's been mind boggling trying to figure out all the links. I personally would be interested to know in which, of anyone's lines, there were intermarriages of people who were residents of the different areas above. Maybe our clues will be in some handwritten story someone has stored away somewhere. . ?? Is it possible that a tradition is handed down that grandpa's family was said to be from, for example, Bavaria, but his wife was from Saxony? Maybe we'll not be able to find out, but curious question. .

It would also be helpful to note if anyone knows about name variations of the same line, "Grabert"? ?Grobe? How do we know if any of these variations are the same line?

Pam

The information that I found was on Ancestry.com . I used the information that you gave and did a search. They were census records and social security records. I did the same thing that I do on my research based on what I have found on other members of my family. Like my grandfather, his name was Albert Franklin Gruber, but all of the records that I found on him, listed him as Frank Gruber. The only way that I knew it was him, is that it listed my grandmothers name with him, and also my aunts and uncles. I used Eldon's first and middle name, along with his approximate birth year and where he lived. That is how I found the people that sounded like they may be his parents. Do you remembe whether they spoke with an accent? Those records show that that persons father came from Germany.

Albert -

Eldon was my grandfather, but just to clarify records for you, Charles Sr. was born 1927, Mary Barb in 1922, and Jack (John) was, as you found, 1929, in case you need it for part of a tree. If you need actual dates, let me know.

Where did you find the information on possible parents? Would it be possible to email it to me. I know Eldon had multiple siblings, I just wish I'd listened and asked about them more. Hell, I was only 6-7 when they passed, but never asked my dad much about it - now I really wish I had.

Sorry for late reply, but I did find more information on my Great Grandmother's parents and siblings, also I found her birth year as 1909 but, their names and birth years are:Martin(Father) born 1880, Leopoldina Leona(Mother) born 1887,Siblings: Adam 1907, William 1910, Emily 1912, Twins: Fred and Elizabeth 1920. I also found their documentation from when they came over from Austria, and they both came from an area in Austria that is now considered Poland. Martin arrived on the ship, Amerikus on May 20th 1907. And I cannot remember when Leopoldina came over off the top of my head.
I'm trying to find information on Albion Matthew Gruber who married Ava Long Gross (1897-1993). Ava was first married to James A. Gross who died in 1930. They had 2 daughters, Carolyn and Delores. Ava then married Albion M. Gruber (1900-1967). I have the obituary for Ava Gruber and know that she is buried in Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah. If anyone has information on or an interest in this family, I would to fill in the gaps...and would happily share what I have! Thanks a million!
I found an Eldon Edward Gruber borned 10 Jun 1896 and died Feb 1979. He had a wife named Barbara M.. They had 3 children, named Mary B. 1923, Charles E.1928, and John A.1929. I think I found his father and mother, but not sure. A John C. Gruber, born abt 1847, who had a wife Magdalena, born abt 1866. They had 7 children. They had a son Edward E. born in 1897. This could possibly be what you are looking for, but not sure. I found in many old records, a lot of people were listed by their middle names, rather than their first names. Also, many times they would turn names around and list middle names as first names. Don't know whether this helps or not.

My great-grandfather's name is John Gruber. I only know that he had siblings, but I have not idea their names or how many. It's been too long since I have heard the stories. I remember hearing about John and his siblings being sent to live with family members. My grandfather, Eldon E. b. June 10, 1896, was one of his children.

I don't know if our Johns are the same person or not, but maybe it's something

Hello Louise,

I am also sifting and sorting the Grubers in Charleston. My Grandmother was a Gruber. Her father was John M., son of Charles M, son of Capt. Charles Adam Gruber. My records show the Charles [1820 -1874], wife Catherine [1826 - 1862] you mention as being both
Charles A. and Charles E. Do you have definitive proof of him being Charles A?

He had children:
George Gruber [1843]
Maria Gruber [1845]
William Gruber [1851]

Hopefull you will check you ancestry email and respond before another 10 years go by!
I am very eager to compare notes. Believe it or not I think I have this Charles grouped correctly.
Sara
