Eusebio & Petra Navarro Guajardo...any relatives out there?

Hi, looking for ANYONE who may be related to these folks, trying to fill in ALOT of blank spots.
Eusebio was born, approx. 1845, and Petra Navarro was born about 1852. Here's a list of their children:

Jose Eduardo, b: 1869
Hilario, b: 1873
Eusebio Jr., 1875
Santiago, 1877
Margarita, "Reta", "Rita", b. 1880 (MY FAMILY TREE)
Manuel, 1884
Antonio, WW1 vet (I have a great pix of him), b. 1889
==============
If there are more kids, I wouldn't doubt it, as there are gaps from the time Eusebio and Petra married (she was like 15) to the known last child, "Antonio".

I was also told the same type of story while growing (now 53) up by both my Dad and my GrandMother (Dad's Mom). Although my Dad would get into someone's face when the would shout "Viva Zapata" and tell them that he is a Guajardo and his family name had Zapata KILLED! MY GrandMother would tell me that my GrandFather would do the same thing. I looked up the origings of the Guajardo name and it goes back to a Knight from Guajar in the Province of Ganada, southern Spain. Here is a web link where you can get some more info.
It is to my understanding that Jesus was my great-great-grandfather...I know a little about him but not much due to the fact that his daughter, my great grandmother, Antonia, WOULD NOT speak of him. My grandfather knows a little but not much either. We have showed my grandfather pictures of Jesus from the Internet and he swears that this man is his grandfather. Very anxious to talk to you! It seems like everybody who is related to this man only knows bits and pieces of his life and family. I am not ashamed of him and want to know more about the man who helped to create my family! Maybe we can solve this puzzle and bring respect back to him and our family!!!
Thanks,
Shandala Maldonado

Conrad,

There is some De Los Santos family stories that say my great grandfather Ernesto De Los Santos took his family to work in the mines in Colorado. He didn't like working underground and brought his family back to Texas. We (my husband and I and our children) actually moved to Boulder and then to Longmont Colorado before moving back to Texas. We loved it, but, it was too expensive to live there and buy property. We were home sick also. So, here we are again.
So are you in Pueblo? We would love to invite the De Los Santos' to the reunion also. But we need to plan for a visit of that magnitude! By the way, what year were you born? My father (Charlie) was born in 1944 and I was born in 1965. I have an older sister named Nannette and a brother by the name of Lance. I have a 1/2 brother by my Mom whose name is Josh. I have a 25 year old daughter named April and a set of boy/girl twins named Zachary and WWhitney. They are 20 years old. I am a first time grandmother as of Oct 2010.

Renee'

Renee',
I would be very greatfull for those pictures. Now that you mentioned pictures, I am reminded of a photo of Conrado while he was alive. I think I remember it from when I was a kid, but I may be confusing it with a picture of my great grand father on my mothers side? I will find out and if it is him I will send it to you. I also have Margaritos and Marias wedding photo with their padrinos. Unfortunatly, it may take some time to dig it up.
As far as some history goes, all I know is that sometime after 1927, Margarito left Thurber and moved his family to a mining town called Delagua, CO. Which, by the way, is now a ghost town. They then moved to Pueblo, Co probably after the mine was shut down. There they stayed. My dad (after serving in WWII) and my Aunt Lilian moved to Denver. My Uncle Robert moved to Arizona. My Aunt Helen Moved to Virginia. The rest stayed in Pueblo. Charlette, Margo, Trini, Beatrice, Jose (Jess).
Little is known about Conrado and Carlota from our end. It may be possible that Margarito did not have a good relationship with his father, and maybe decided not to let his family know about him. I was too young and could not speak spanish before he died to ask him.
I do know that we have relatives in Texas, but the last time we visited them I was just a baby. From what I have been told from my parents and my older siblings that the visit did not go well and my dad decided to leave for home earlier than expected.
You know I have contacted one of my oldest 1st cousins. I think she may be able to tell me more, and when she does I will pass it on to you.
Until next time,
Conrad

I also have some info and pics of Conrado and Carlotta, 3 sisters and 1 or 2 brothers. My great Aunt Lita has just written a book that references Conrado and Carlotta in the book, "La Familia De Los Santos". You can buy the book and zulu.com. I think she will be writing 2 other books.
I have been looking at some of the other posts when you type in Conrado and Carlotta Guajardo and see that someone said Conrado was born in Mexico in 1875. It was my great Aunt Lita that said Conrado talked with a funny accent and that he came from Italy. Again, she was going from what she remembered in conversations with her mother (Angelita Guajardo De Los Santos. So, I don't know. There is certainly some mystery surrounding his heritage that I would like to know. I do have a picture of him and Carlotta and two sisters and a picture of Margarito and Angelita when they were very young. If you like, I can scan them in and send to your email. I think one picture is a little morbid. It's of Conrado at his wake. I don't know why they used to take pictures of the dead. But, if you like, I will share. Also, if you have any other pictures or history you could share, I would be most appreciative.

Your New Cousin in Texas,
Renee'

Renee'
Thank you for your post. Wow! What can I say? My family an I have been stumped on Conrado (my great grandfather) for ever. I have never heard anyone mention we could be part Italian. I cant wait to research this information and share it with my family. I have two aunts, Lilian, Helen and two uncles, Jose and Robert left from my fathers (Manuel) siblings. Their father Margarito was born in Texas but ended up moving his family to Colorado where he passed in Pueblo in 1984.
I have always had a suspicion that the reason why we could not determine the parents of Conrado, was because of a change in our last name. I have heard and read many stories about families changing their surname due to racism or to escape the law. Also, in reading many census scrolls, I have noticed many mistakes when recording the information. It would not surprise me if perhaps a spanish speaking priest recording Conrado's last name would have been wrong.
I want to thank you for this information. It will be a thrill to research.
You can contact me directly, if you wish, at (darnocoo7@yahoo.com)
Your new cousin,
Conrad G Guajardo

I believe we are related. My relation to Conrado and Carlotta Guajardo is thru my father. His name is Charlie Belisario De Los Santos, Jr. His father was Charlie Belisario De Los Santos, Sr. Senior's mother was: Maria de los Angeles (Angelita) Guajardo De Los Santos. She was one of the daughters of Conrado and Carlotta.

My Great Aunt Angelita (Lita) De Los Santos Santos lives in Bee Caves, Texas and has recently written her first book on the memories of her childhood. You can find her book at Zulu.com and name of the book is, "La Familia De Los Santos". I purchased it in Dec. 2010. She says that Conrado was full blooded italian and when he and Carlotta were married, the priest couldn't say his name right and recorded it as: Guajardo. That's as far back as she is able to go. Those records were in Mexico. When they came to Texas, they settle in Thurber, Texas. Conrado eventually became part owner in a bar there. It's hard to find out more info about that. The city is a ghost town and the only history seems to be in the restaurant "The Smokehouse".

Let me know what history you have. I would be very interested in more of the family history. Lita will be publishing at least two more books I believe.

Renee' De Los Santos Marcum

HI Ralph...I hope all is well with you..can I ask you some more "Guajardo" questions? I'm following my dad's, dad's, mom's maiden name..."Gaujardo"...and her mom was of European descent...I've been trying to establish her name, but keep running into dead ends. I know that there were siblings, and their names were :

Rita (born 1875)(or Margarita, aka on some Census reports "Reta"), G. Montes (she married my G G Grandfather, Estevan/Esteban Montez....so I have this picture of "Rita Gaujardo" and her mother, and a few other Guajardo relatives/ who were her siblings, apparently.

"Antonio" have a military picture that looks like he could have served in the Spanish/American war.

"Marcelina", holding my grandfather, as a baby, and
"Vicente", in a military pictures..could have been WWI, as the earliest war.
Do you have any info that might support this particular clan?

Thanks,

Vivienne Montes-Pina

hello, my name is elijah nora (laredo, webb county, texas, usa)my maternal grandmother was born Guajardo. It is of spanish origin particularly from Los Guajares,Spain
(southern). it is a toponymic name meaning it is derived from the place name Guajar. Guajar is derived from the arabic word "w zar" which means "an inaccesible mountain" or "refuge". its derivation is not unusual since it was in southern Spain that Arab influence on the Spanish language and culture was quite profound.

hope this helps,

Elijah (olp_71@hotmail.com)

p.s. this is not my account it belongs to a church feel free to contact me to the above addess.)

Re: what does Guajardo mean?

My family is located in Southern Texas "The Valley" Rio Hondo, Harlingen, etc. and my grandparents were from Linares, Nuevo Leon. It's an unusual name as it is, even where it's more common, because it has Arabic roots, which should come as no surprise due to the region it comes from in Spain (Moors) but where I have lived the last 25 years of my life, Southern California, it's unheard of. Very rare. So, to all the familia and even those who are not sure, GUAJARDO is who we are, be proud and let's bring this noble name out into the world, let everyone know we're here!

Hey, I was just researching Emilio Zapata and I saw that he was assinated by a "Guajardo". I started reading the responces and I read one that said that the family "Guarjardo" lived in Laredo, Texas. My mothers family is from Laredo, Texas and their last name is "Guajardo". I would like to look into this more. I don't know too much about my grandfathers family but I could find out. My grandmother is still alive. I am excited to find out more.
