Lizzie C. (Clara?) nee Nicholson born Apr. 1860 in the 1900 census. Looking for a death date. She died after 1930 and want confirmation of her parents who I think were William of Edinburgh, Scotland and Jennette Steel of New Brunswick. They lived in Summerside, PEI after their marriage in the late 1840's or early 1850's. TIA

Dave, this is Jason, Stanley Guilford's son out in Oregon. I am looking into the Guilford line as well. I just started, but am not finding much after Louis Guilford. Hopefully you get on here again and we can get in touch and maybe help each other out. Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi,
I have just come across Joseph Guilford, alias Torrey Peabody, and also have questions about why his name was changed. From a book called Name Changes in Massachusetts, I see that not only did Torrey changed his name, but several others did so as well. They appear to be Torrey's siblings. They are Matilda Hartland, Almira, Frances, and Abby Ann. They all had the surname Guilford and changed it to Peabody, which is their mother's birth name. This happened on 3 May 1850. I can only surmise that somehow the Guilford name was sullied, and the kids wanted nothing to do with it, thereafter. The only clue I have been able to find is that one Aaron Guildford was found dead in Lynnfield or Danvers in 1824, supposed to have died of intoxication and hypothermia. However his age was given as about 40, which would not be Aaron Sr., but perhaps his son.
A puzzlement for sure.
Ginny

Hello again Karl,

From what I have found out so far, this would be the Albert Wayne Guilford you are looking for. He was one of 7 children. His brother, Rex, was my grandfather. There is one sister, Marvel, still living.

I have spoken with my father, and both of my aunts. Wayne never had any natural born children, and there is speculation as to whether he could father children. I can't speak to that.

My father remembers Jo & Jake Durham. He also remembers Jo and Wayne spending time together at his father's ranch.

I guess the only conclusive way to know for certain is to have a DNA test done. My father said he would happily give a comparison sample if needed. He also said he would love to meet you, as would I. :)

I am going to look for some photos to send you. I believe my aunt was going to send one of Wayne to you mother also.

Please contact me at pktheur@msn.com and we can connect on the phone if you like.

Warm regards,
Patty
My name is Karl Tinney. I was adopted at birth by Tinney family. I was born on May 31,1961 in Portland, Oregon. I recently requested and recieved from Oregon my pre-adoption birth records and my mother's name is Jocelyn Durham.I contacted my mother and she told me that the name of my father is Albert Wayne Guilford. All the information listed in this obituary matches the information of my natural father. I have learned from my mother that my father was a close friend of her late husband and that I had been given up for adoption due to the fact that her husband "Mr. Durham" refused to raise another man's child.I'm listed as "Baby Boy Durham" on my original birth certificate. I have six older 1/2 sisters(Durham).I'm trying to connect with my family on my father's side. I live in Azalea, Oregon. I want to find any possible 1/2 siblings on my father's side and presume I have uncles/aunts that I don't know.

Hello, I am Martha's daughter from the above comments from 10 years ago! I am now researching the Gilfert/Gilford line. I think we are related to Conrad. In an emigration record it says he came from Hesse-Cassel with a wife and 6 kids. Then in a 1850 census he shows up with 5 children...the two oldest being born in Germany and the last 3 born in PA. I am thinking the four oldest had left the house by then. I think they had 9 children. I just can't seem to connect my GGG grandfather, William to Conrad. I think Conrad was his father, but I'm still looking.

Keep writing! Help! :) Michelle

Oh yes, I'm all over that.

The problem is, just about every first born Guilford from way back was named John. Feel free to visit my page.

Now Isaac is a different story. He was given a land grant by King Charles the 2nd in NE North Carolina. This is the biggest thing I am working on right now, trying to find where he lived before moving to N.Carolina.
He may have been related to the "Guilford's" in England like Henry (King Henry the 8th's 1st comptroller of the Army). Since the King's name was Henry, he had to use the name Harry. Harry was one of the Kings all time favorite people since he was larger in stature than the King. Henry the 8th jousted with him almost exclusively. Harry however was no supporter of the Kings policies. He was anti-abortion (whatever that means) and also against the King's gov't. Harry actually lied about his age so he wouldn't have to serve him again. Bad juju for that time but at least he stood his ground morally.

I've also got some information about another Guilford and his pilgrimage to the "holy land". A very interesting read if you are interested. There have been many spellings of Guilford as well so look out for those.

If you find any info about Isaac, please let me know. My email is gilfrd@gmail.com.
All our people are from Alabama, Georgia, Florida S.Carolina and N. Carolina. There was Uncle Tom Guilford that went to NYC and died there from apparent alcoholism.
Please ask any questions.

When he moved north to PA with his five children--from his first marriage to Bethsheba/Besheba who was also called Bessie--Most of his siblings stayed in the area and the surrounding couties you mentioned. One brother move north--Ezekial and his sister Susie Guilford (Streeter) stayed in Pike County. These are the only siblings' names we know of. We are looking for Hezechiah's other siblings' names and families.

Margaret Miles (b. c 1829) ma John A. Guilford 7 Sep 1848 in Barbour Co, AL according to county marriage records. However, the 1850 Barbour County census shows Margaret age 18, William A. Guilford age 28 and Mary age 2 living with Margaret's mother Mary A. Miles. I am unable to verify or trace this Guilford family but it is probable they may have remained surrounding counties of Pike, Henry, Dale or Bullock in AL. I have no idea where she or Lemon were from, several people have given up hope of ever finding out where they came from or who their parents were. I have little info. to go on just thought if I traced Charitys line I might come across where she and Lemon met and married. If you have any info. please let me know.
Was wondering if you had a Charity Guilford born 1824/26 in N.C, she married Lemon Johnson. I don't know anything else about her and seeing that there wasn't many Guilfords at that time thought maybe she was related.
