Hello, Margane was my husband's grandmother. He is the youngest son of Joseph W Henson. I have been in contact with one of Stella's granddaughters who states that Margane was buried in Gideon at the Stanfield Cemetery. She also states that Margane was given an Indian Land grant in the early 1900's. I am trying to find this info. Would be beneficial for all if could verify that she was Indian. If you have any more info, please feel free to contact me.
Thanks,
Larry and Yvonne Henson

Hi Megan,
it is very nice to get a reply to my post after so long, and from a cousin!.
Do you have any clues to where the family graves are? I have found 2 in centennial park, but am not sure of their connection. I would really like to know where my grandfather (arthur henry thomas gully) is buried, He died when I was a child but I did not ever meet him. I wonder if perhaps it is in the same location as some of your family? I would be grateful for any suggestions or clues you may have. If I can be of any assistance with names etc; please let me know. Thank you so much for responding. kind regards, Helen.

Hello, first let me say it so interesting researching this for the most part. It may be a little time consuming but I'm enjoying it.

*Sammy Neely is my grandfathers first cousin
(Ive met him several times)

I am a 3rd generation Hickman. My GreatGrandFather was Lee Hickman and his wife was Valena Hickman.
From what I understand the Hickmans and Gullys are cousins that actually married one another

Love to hear any additional info : )

Thanks

Brittney,
Thanks for the reply. Sorry I'm just now getting to this.
It's been a while since I looked at this line.

For several years I've been trying to find the parents of my Francis Asbury Preston (b.1832 in Jessamine Co, KY) and am looking for any possible clues. By a process of elimination, Lewis seems the most likely candidate to be his father. My only evidence of relation is a marriage authorization signed by him and witnessed by a Gratton Preston, whom I believe is one of Jilson's sons. I have found 3 children for Lewis - Catherine, Jilson and Matilda, b. 1818, 1822 and 1824, respectively. I have turned up a fair amount of information on this family in the process of my research and would be happy to share.

I have 12 children for Jilson. If you want to email me your list, I'll reciprocate. You can reach me at "alehman at kc.rr.com"

I am a descendant of that branch of the Gully family. My mother's brother did extensive research.
My mother's grandfather was John Gully.
Her father was an engineer on the NYC harbor. I heard that her 5 uncles were tug boat captains and her father and one other brother were engineers.
My mom is 95 and was the youngest child in her family. There was a 16yr span between the youngest and oldest.

I recently spoke to , and hopefully will meet in person, the Last Gully on the Harbor.
Unbelievable history here.

They were planters in Jamaica. I think the Kingston area.

I have heard also in Barbados. I am going thru my moms records.

Lois
My email is Loisriccobono@yahoo.com

My name is Brittney Preston and I am a direct descendent of Lewis Preston. I saw you were trying to find his children. As far I am aware he married Elizabeth Griffin and had one son he named Jilson Preston, after his father. Jilson married Amanda Walters and had seven kids. If you would like their names as well just let me know, I have the rest of the tree leading all the way up to myself. Unfortunately I cannot go back any further than Lewis's parents, Jilson Preston and Ruth Stone! If you know anything I would appreciate the help! Thank you!
Brittney Preston

Dear Billy,
Thanks for all the information. We do come from an interesting family and fortunate to be able to trace back so many generations. My grandmother Florence,as a Gully, knew much about the family from her father and grandfather.
We also have newspaper articles about the Gully's and the famous Sea Captains.
My great grandfather, John Gully who was born in Brooklyn,
his baptism certificate states his mother as Elizabeth Kinney, it could have been Kinsey.
We know the property in Jamaica went to my great grandfather's brother James Daniel Gully in the 1930's
We have no further knowledge of it. We do have an old map of the property.
Could you please give some information about the lawyering
that went on between Rebecca and the unscrupulous lawyers over the property, I would this very interesting, an added chapter to the history. Tom

Hello from Maryland and thank you for answer my request. It is nice to know new cousins. I have been at this for a while. Yes of course there were multiple John Gully's. John senior started out in England and was asked to take over his father Daniels plantation in Jamaica at about 1825. He then married someone named Rebecca who had John Gully Jr the Sea Captain, Rupertia, Susan Madeline, my GreatGrandmother and Mary Eleanor. Rebecca only signed one birth and that was Susan's. She used the last name McNamara.
Rebecca is the focus of my current search as her name does not appear on any US documents that ask the question "Mothers maiden name". We think it was Rebecca McNamara.
Now you mention an Elizabeth and John Gully. John Gully Jr the Sea Captain married Elizabeth Kinsey from Ireland, not Kinney, and was the mother of all of Capt John's children including Florence Gully Burns father John J. I have pictures, great ones of Florences Grandfather, of the family if you ever decide you would like to have a copy or two. Again, you are very kind to help me. I hope this helps you. We also have info on the lawyering that went on between Rebecca? and unscrupulous lawyers over the Middleton almost copper mine. Write soon. Billy
i

Hello again,
Yes you are correct with decendants. My grandmother had a sister Ida.
We know there was a marriage between a John Gully and a woman whose father was John McNamara we do not her first name.John McNamara was the surgeon of the Royal Naval Hospital in Port Royal. She would be my great, great, great
grandmother. My great grandfather, Capt.John Gully had a sister Madeline, she could have been Susan Madeline.
Capt John Gully was the son of John B Gully and Elizabeth Kenny he was also a sea captain. I Hope this helps you to connect to your side of this family and the history of the plantation in Jamaica.
I do live on the east coast of the US.
Hello Dear Sir or Madam, Please tell me if I have your family accurately described as to decendants:
Capt John - Elizabeth = John J
John J - Mary ? = Florence and Ida
Florence - Patrick Burns - Owen, John, Doris and Patrick.
Is this it. Can you tell me where you fit in here. Also please expand on the McNamara's and th niece. As i said a Rebecca McNamara signed my Susan Madelines' birth. Are you in the US. Are you and the east coast.?

Hello, Thanks so much. I think you may have just opened a locked door for me. I have been looking for the name McNamara. Do you know if Rebecca McNamara could be the niece? Her name shows up on a Susan Gully birth certificate. Was she from England.
Also, I made a mistake early on. Susan Madeline was my fathers Grandmother amd therefore my GGrandmother. Her brother John Gully Jr. was of course my GreatUncle. He was the Sea Captain and they both left Jamaica and lived in Brooklyn. John in 1861 and Susan in 1890.
Are you willing to communicate via email or direct. I would love to know more. Again the name McNamara is very key to me. Please email me at wamcma@ix.netcom.com
Hello,
Yes I did receive your reply. Florence is not the same person, my grandfather was Patrick, her husband. But I am sure there is a family connection.
If your great, great, great grandmother was Susan my great, great, great grandfather was John Gully.
We know we were related to Sir William Court Gully. We know there was a marriage between John Gully and the niece of John McNamara.
My great grandfather was John Gully and so was my great, great grandfather John Gully.
We still have relatives named Gully.
Being my grandmother was a Gully we knew much of the family history and the stories of the plantation in Jamaica.
Hope this information is a help to you.

I'm sorry we'll apparently miss each other. I do look forward to meeting your daughter.

Thanks so much for the information. I didn't have anything on Bell, except that my grandmother thought her full name was Isabelle. I have Betty Preston b. abt 1859 based on her reported age of 11 in the 1870 Boyle Co census.

I have Manetta Marian as Bernetta "Nettie" Marion.

For William, the U.S. Federal Census Mortality Schedule for year ending 1-June-1870 lists a William Preston, 7, died in January in Perryville, KY. That could be him, or there are several other William Prestons of roughly the right age in Jessamine Co, KY and Greene Co, MO in the 1910-1920 time span. My grandmother's notes said she thought he was a 'blacksheep' of the family, whatever that meant. I sure wish I had been interested in this stuff while she was alive.

Do you know if any of these folks besides Manetta (Bernetta) and James had children?

I've met (via email) two people who have done a lot of research on the central Ky Prestons and Baldens. I'd be happy to share what I have gathered from them and other sources.

Lewis Preston had a male 5 & under 10 living in his household in 1840. This would have been the right age for our Francis Asbury Preston. Neither Toliver, James, Jilson, Enoch or the other Toliver had a male living in the household who was old enough to be our Francis Asbury Preston. William had 2 males old enough, but we have accounted for all six of the males in his household in 1840. Patrick Preston had disappeared by 1840. Plus, he would have probably been a little too old to father a child. No one has yet been able to tie the central Ky Prestons to the Prestons in eastern Ky or Va.

One researcher thinks Lewis is a son of John Jilson Preston (b. Va), but this was only a family story. Lewis married Elizabeth Griffin on 26-Jun-1817 in Jessamine Co, KY. I have five children for them: Catherine, Richard T, Jilson, Matilda and Elisha. I'm fairly confident of the first four, not so much on Elisha.

I've also been working on the Baldens and I sent your Mom a package of information I had gathered on them. Would you like a copy? If it's convenient I would like to see what you have on the Baldens.
