Hello, I just came upon this posting. Alex Gundry was my great grandfather. My name is Mike Gundry, and I am the son of John Gundry of Grand Blanc. My dad is the son of George Gundry of Grand Blanc, and he was the son of Alex Gundry. I am very interested in any old pictures you may have that I can share with the family. My email is mgundry@verizon.net
Thanks, Mike.
I found info on the web last night. It said Thomas A. Gundry was born Aug 10 1974 in london England. This coincides with the info from my grandmother about him being 12 when he immigrated. He had a brother Albert Gundry and his mother was listed as lois stuart or lois cooper but no fathers name. You might have better luck looking into Albert. I have the name constanine in my notes, don't know where it applies to, possibly a name given to me by my grandmother. As far as stacey, it doesnt add up so I will call my grandmother and see how much she remembers.

We have come into possession of a wooden steeple bank. the family lore says that my husbands great grandfather made the bank. We are in no way connected to the Gundry name. On close examination we found what appears to be a stamping of the name R. Gundry.
Does any one know anything about R. Gundry. From the workmanship I believe he must have been a cabinet maker or carpenter. My husband remembers this being in his home (Rochester NY) as far back as he can remember and he is now about to turn 60 yrs old.
Any help with this would be sincerely appreciated.

Hello again.
Re John Seager Gundry's family: John Seager Gundry born 1816 Devizes. Married Isabella Bayne. Came to New Zealand on the 'Steadfast" 1815. Returned back home to England in time for the birth of Isabella and John's only child a daughter - Mary Augusta born 1859. Mary married Albert Edward May 1st June 1878 at Westminister, Middlesex. Their children are: Daisy May 1880. Ethel May 1883. Albert John May 1884. Rose Mary May 1889. The last I have of this family is that they went to SOuth Hayling to live. Daisy May sent Dr.John's dairies back to New Zealand - they are now in print and are mainly about the journey out here and building his house here. Would love to find descendants of this family.
Brenda

Hi,

Samuel Gundry b 1809 Devizes,Wiltshire is part of the main Gundry line that goes all the way back to Humphry Gundry d 1596 in Dorset. The Hampshire Gundrys are also part of this tree. Nobody as far as I am aware has been able to establish a connection with the Cornwall Gundrys. The link if any is likely to be before parish registers started so it may be lost. We may never know but DNA testing across the two family trees is an option.

I don't have the details of the MAY-GUNDRY marriage nor the four children and would be very pleased to receive them.

Nigel Gerdes

I believe Joseph was the brother of my gt gt grandfather William. I think he emigrated with his brother Josiah. They were all born in Sithey which was a very small community with a church. Sithney is now part of Helston due to the gradual urban spread. The brothers were all concerned with Tin mining. William went to Somerset and became a pump engineer in coal mines. His children went all over the place. My gt grandfather became a railway engineer and my family were concerned with the railways in England and Ireland for the next 2 generations. Best wishes Ann
Please excuse my interest but I am fascinated by what happened to my family.

Contact me on: nigel.removethisbit.gerdes@milnet.uk.net for more details. I have added a little text and an extra dot to my e-mail address to block spam harvesters. I would like to know more about Lucy and who her siblings married. The family goes back a very long way and it is a huge tree. Look forward to hearing from you.

From a sunny UK,

Nigel
My great-grandfather, Joseph Gundry, immigrated to California from Sithney County, Cornwall in the mid-1800's. He came from a family of Cornish miners (not sure what type) and lured to Grass Valley, California during the Gold Rush when hard-rock mining skills were in great demand. He met and married Margaret Cartwright who bore him nine children, one of whom was my grandfather, Joseph Frank Gundry. He became a physician, married Anne Elizabeth Pluth and had 3 children, one of whom was my father, Robert C. Gundry.

I found the Colliery Disaster in the UK. I am scratching my head over whether this Samuel is kin or not. It would have been a case of reverse migration if his family are already in Upstate New York. I think I found his birth record citation, making him the correct age of 26 and born in the Leicestershire.

http://www.whitwick.org.uk/history/disaster.htm

geography:
http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/leicestershire_map.htm

Name: Samuel Stacey
Birth: abt 1872 - Masboro, Yorkshire, England
Residence: 1881 - Whitwick, Leicestershire, England

"Blair" is also recognized by me as a family name. Only once that I can remember, about 25 years ago at that, my father brought up about a Blair who killed his wife and/or her lover, if I remember the gist of the story correctly. Have you ran into any stories like that?

To be fair, I did find a Francis Staples in my mother's line who was on the prison Census in Virginia in 1900. I wonder what he did as well. I think the Virginia connection comes from his military service.

I am glad I could help some. My research is from years ago and I ran into a lot of trouble too. I wrote things on a piece of paper without much organization so its hard to make sense of it years later. With lots of names repeating themselves throughout the generations it becomes rather confusing. I did stumble upon another newspaper article about a thomas gundry who was one of 39 survivors of a shipwreck that was coming from melbourn Australia and going to liverpool England on October 26, 1859. Thomas seems to be a common name so I Don't know if there was any relation, but it could be a lead. I recall my grandmother telling me the story of my great grandfather coming over on a boat by himself at the age of 12. Possibly it was cornwall England. Albert Gundry born oct 8 1903 died oct 1904.

Samuel stacey born chazy ny
married adeline blair from plattsburg ny
gave birth to elsie nettie stacey and from a newspaper article I stumbled upon there was a sybling.

Samuel stacey was a stallman at the dumps whitwick he died in april 19, 1899 in the whitwick coliery disaster fire. He left a wife and two children.

Grace Ruby Gundry born DEC 8 1916 married walter colombe had 2 children walter colombe and norman colombe. I have the names of alfred, walter, merle and Thomas's children, if you need that information.

Good Luck with your research, I am really interested in learning more.

Thank you for the reply. I am also a great granddaughter of Thomas A Gundry.

The last name "Stacey" is in my family line; I just was not aware it was the maiden name of my great grandmother. But there is a lot I am not aware of. I have been focusing on my mother's line because she is still alive. I know much more about my maternal line from my personal research at Barre and Burlington City Halls. I haven't done my father's line that way yet. The recent 14-day free trial allowed me to go back much further on her side. I am running into brick walls early on my father's side due to immigration.

Some of the names of the children of Thomas A agree with what I have from the 3-day trial a year ago Memorial Day, which was done very haphazardly because it was my first experience with Ancestry.com, and I was after data, data, data with no time to think about it as I went along. I have Merle (1900-1989), Alfred E (1906-1981), Walter T (1911-1974), Thomas R (1913-1974) and a living daughter, G., as the children of Thomas A Gundry.

Questions:
1) I recognize Albert as a recycled name on my father's side and I am missing him on my tree. What can you tell me about him? He must have died rather young because he is neither in the SSDI nor Intelius.

2) Was Elsie/Elise born in England?

Thomas A Gundry was my great grandfather. I believe his mothers name could have been louis cooper or louis stuart and his father Thomas Gundry, but I don't know. Thomas A Gundry I believe married Elise Nettie stacey. They then had Merle adeline gundry, Albert Thomas Gundry and Thomas Russell Gundry.

Sorry for the delay in reply, I began working on this in the last couple of years) Josiah was brother to my great-grandfather Joseph Gundry. Both came from Cornwall England (both born in Longstone Downs, Cornwall) in 1852 on SS Oregon. wagon train to Cal. I have traced my line through Joseph, but not worked on Josiah. However, I have his obituary from the Amador County newspaper, saved by his sister-in-law, Margaret Caroline Gundry (Joseph's wife and my great grandmother). I will scan it and forward to you if you are interested.

Hello Lucus ~ Glad to hear from you! Just so that you know I also have an older brother Mike he is 47 and lives in Grand Rapids MI. So there is another cousin for you, don't forget Barb's kids. I know of a daughter and that is all, I met her when my dad passed away. I do remember meeting you at one time, but you were a baby at the time. I was visiting my Dad in Santa Barbara when I was 16, and we drove up the coast to your parents.

Here is a question for you is Gerald (our uncle) still living? I think but I am not sure he may have been looking into the family history, but I heard that back in 91, so don't quote me on it.

Here is my e-mail address, kfgundry@yahoo.com, so we can take this off the message board.

Tell the family Hi! and Happy Hoidays if we don't chat prior to then.
Kathy,

You're right about my name being Lucas. We must be cousins and I have not been in touch with Barbara for a long time but I think my mother has semi recently. The only memory I have of your father is sailing with him and my father when I was very young (I think on the San Francisco Bay by where I live). Its nice to finally meet some relatives on my dad's side... he was so much younger than his brothers and sister, I think that had a lot to do with it.

I'll look into the family tree and let you know if I find anything.

Also, I have an older brother Daniel (age 30), younger sister Kaylin (age 26) and a younger brother Gerald William Gundry (age 21 named after your father and their brother). I'm 28, so I guess you have 4 cousins. Dan just had a baby girl whos turning 1 in a week Addyson Lynne. We all live in the bay area california.

Our Aunt Barbara took the family tree with her, and promised to send it back to me when she was finished copying it, but that never happened, and I have lost touch.

I would see if her daughter might still have it.

If you want to keep in touch my e-mail address is kfgundry@yahoo.com. I would be interested in what you find out.

Take care and Good Luck
