Do the McDowells show up in your family tree?
I am pretty new at this family searching and have a lot of blanks to fill. I have quite a listing of ancestors on the Johnson side if that helps. Please reply as time allows. Thanks! My grandmother Alice is also buried at Butters Cemetary.

In it he says he's Grandmother was Sarah Adeline Hammett and that she was the Great-Granddaughter of James Gunter who married a Cherokee girl and Lived in Guntersville Alabama. Sarah married a Oliver Perry Williams in Spartenburg S.C. and moved to Northeast Al. in the early 1800's. Sarah's parents where Jess Hammett and Anna Cook from S.C. I dont know which one of these people are decended from James Gunter as my Grandfather died when I was a Young boy and his home with all his research burned a few years later. So you might want to try checking the Hammett and Cook families in S.C.
•	Reply

The Gunter coat of arms is available from Halberts for about $40.00. It comes from Sir Peter (1035) who settled in Wales on a farm of 1000 acres named TreGunter in a home called Gunterstone, both on th map of Wales.

Have visited there in 2010 and have photos of the area which is much like the foothills of north Georgia.

Tom Gunter

Hi I started researching family history when I was 16 now 56 I've found you can't leave any stone uncovered. Start with the most current people on the 1920 Census not sure about 1930 and then go back every census and search cemetery record and all you can. Believe me it will pay off and make notes. I've used notes that I made 10 years ago and boy does it ever work. Also back up your work on paper. Trust me I found that out the hard way!!! Good Luck anything I can do let me know! But, Macon also had a son named Macon, b. 1836, died Jl 31, 1924, Adamsville, Jefferson county, Alabama. I haven't added any family members for him, but in a quick look at other documents, I don't see her.
My direct descendent is Thomas Sr.'s son John Wesley Gunter.

Breconshire Gunters - with travel around the UK

Yesterday lunchtime I was set the challenge (by a family friend) of finding out about Jenny Gunter. I have done so but now I need some help!

The top of the Tree is Thomas Gunter who married Leah (possible spelling Lea) Watkins (born 1803 in Llangynidr, Powys). I can find no information about a marriage or a death of Thomas.

In the 1841 census and also the 1851 Leah is married to Daniel Reynalt (bn 1805 Llanelly, Monmouthshire). Listed with them is step son Walter Gunter (bn 1825 Llangynidr, Powys).

I am looking for more information about Thomas Gunter and also Leah Watkins. I believe that Thomas Gunter may have also come from Llangynidr, but at the beginning of 1800's there were approximately 700 people living in the village bounardies, however, Walter's christening takes place in the nearby village of Cwmdu.

Does anyone else have any information about Thomas Gunter and his wife Leah Watkins (her father was James Watkins and a farmer in Llangynidr).

Walter (Watkin on IGI) Gunter married Margaret Reynallt (bn 1831 Llanelly, Monmouthshire) and had the following children Urien Regid Gunter bn 1852 Llanelly, Mon.; Elias Gunter bn 1856 Nantyglo, Mons.; Leah Ann Gunter bn 1858 Nantyglo, Mons.; Enoch Gunter bn 1863 Nantyglo, Mons.; Susannah Gunter bn 1866 Nantyglo, Mons.; Reynallt Gunter bn 1868 Llanelly, Mons., died 1917 Pontypridd, Glamorgan,; Llewellyn Charles Gunter bn 1874 Llanelly, Mons.

I have managed to find most of the decendants from these people, however, I have little on Susannah Gunter.

Sorry about all the words.

Onpawsfamily

No I have no added information re Conrad and Mary's ancestry or exact place of residence in Germany or other.
I think that when they say Conrad came from Hannover it could either mean Hannover City or the 'Duchy'or 'Kingdom' of Hannover as that was at the time a separate part of Germany. That area (or for the most part) is now called Niedersachen. I had a German translation program on my computer several years ago, it didn't work great but I did have some e-mail conversations with one individual in Germany which didn't reveal anything nor did it raise my hopes that we will ever find the origins. The name is so common in Germany it is like searching for Bill Smith in North America. Also there are many variants of Gunter, Günter, Guenter, etc., as well as the fact that Conrad showed his name as Coonrad in both Orange County NY and in New Brunswick on various occasions. Lots of luck for anyone that hopes to trace back to either Conrad or Mary.

I descend from Conrad and Mary's son, Andrew with Elizabeth TItus, and Conrad's grandson, Isaac with Maria Coy. However, I've hit the proverbial brick wall researching Conrad or Mary's parents in Germany or one researcher thought perhaps Holland for Mary Braun. If you have any information on this earlier material, please let me know. Thank you!

I have a large GEDCOM file on the descendants of CONRAD and MARY GUNTER. Mainly it covers the descendants of their son ABRAHAM and 'NANCY' Ann (CLARK) who went to Ontario, Bay of Quinte, etc. Their is also a large file on their son ANDREW who stayed in New Brunswick but you would have to find a contact in New Brunswick for that line.
If you wish to e-mail me that would be fine, however I may be a bit slow with a reply, researching my wife's line right now. Interested in BRANSCOMBE's also.
floyd.gunter@sasktel.net

Two of the girls married a Gunter. I'm still looking to connect with a cousin who is descended from one of these Crowder/Gunter marrages.

10/12/11
I am responding regarding your posting concerning Andrew Hampton Gunter, b.1817, Tn.
Andrew is a brother to my g-g-g-grandmother Margaret who first married unknown Hill (2) Henry Banister (3) John Truit.
Andrew had an older brother George Washington Gunter, B. 1800, Tn. Also, a youmger brother James.

John Gunter was the father of James Glass Gunter.
Most people have his mother as Amy tillotson, however if that is true then we have the birth date for James incorrect. Otherwise, Sarah Goodson is second in line.
Sarah died in 1800.
Where did you read about James Glass Gunter marrying an
Indian Woman. I agree with you, but I have no documentation. Can you remember where you read about this.
God Bless
Dr. Sue Webb

It is actually Lyman Goodman, the son-in-law of John C. Gunter.
Lyman married John's daughter Alice May Gunter in 1924, had a child, and then they divorced in 1929.

I am trying desperately to find Lyman Goodman before a relative dies. He seems to have just vanished into thin air.

All I know is just about him and what I wrote before. I don't know his parents and can't find anyone with the name of Lyman Goodman that fits.

Thank you for your words of encouragement. I will not give up.

Look for siblings or cousins - families with the same name in the same county.

Have you looked for military records?
Have you looked for Texas Death records - www.familysearch.org has the actual death certificates for many years. If you know the names of his parents, you can do a reverse search.

Happy searching and please don't let a little bump stop you!

John C. Gunter

Please help. I am looking for information on the husband of John C. Gunter's daughter, Alice Mae Gunter's husband Lyman Goodman. It is as if he doesn't exist. I cannot complete my tree unless I find him.

John C. Gunter was first married to Mary Jane Saunders in 1872 in Madison Co, Missouri. He then married Caroline Malloy in 1896. Alice Mae Gunter was born in 1907 in Brunot, Twelve Mile Twp, Wayne Co, Missouri. She married Lyman Goodman Jan. 14, 1924. They had one child in 1924. The couple divorced on August 14, 1929.

I can't find anything on Lyman Goodman. Lyman could be his middle name too. He was born abt. 1902 in Texas, based on the fact he was 22 yrs old when his child was born. The events of his life fall between the census years.

I can't go on with my tree unless I find him. I would like to know his parents, siblings, if he remarried, when he died, anything on him. He appears to have just vanished. Any help would be immensely appreciated.
