Hi:

I think that the book you refer to is titled: "My Wife's Family" by Noah H. Bradley of Powhatan Co., Virginia. Noah's wife is Hazel May Guss and she is a direct descendant of the Charles Guss who was born in Baden Germany in 1732 and migrated to America at the age of 18 years in 1750.

Bernie in Virgina

Hi Mike,
I just saw your post from January and am not sure if I responded. I will also send this message to your e-mail but thought I'd post here too in case your address has changed. I am the g-g-granddaughter of George Washington GUSS and Elizabeth Jane JEFFERIS of Chester Co., PA. My g-grandmother was Arlein GUSS who married Joseph E. J. McGEE. I don't have a picture of George, but do of Elizabeth. I would love to share information with you on these lines and how we are connected. Hope to hear from you soon.
Denise Phillips
denise@suwaneetree.com

Hi everyone I am looking for any information on the life of my great-great-great Grandfather Captain George Washington GUSS, born 3 Jul. 1831 died 27 May 1871, husband of Elizabeth Jane JEFFERIES. He was born in Chester County, Pennsylvania and died and is buried in the same. I have some limited information on his life but figured I would see if anyone else out there is a relative of this man and may have some information on him (or any of his family, for that matter! If you have any GUSS info from this line, let me know!) The ultimate would be a photo of the man, but have searched in vain for many years. Any info would be great!

Please either respond to this post or e-mail me @ deaduntildarkgtr@aol.com

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your response posted yesterday. No, I never received info on the Inscho family. I would love to hear from your wife with any information and/or pictures that she might be willing to share. The only information I have on this line is that Kizzie married Everett Inscho and they had 4 children. This information was all obtained from the book "Guss Lines" that was published by Willa Guss in 1990. I have not been working on this line much recently as I am working on a book on my father's line. But I am always anxious to get new leads. I look forward to hearing from you.
Denise

Hi Brenda,
I can understand why you are confused. I went back and checked my records and only had a source of a newspaper article published by Abraham GUSS in 1877- [Abraham Guss, "Guss Family & Those Related by Intermarriage," published in "The Globe", Huntingdon, Juniata Co., Pa.; 18 July 1877]. So I went online to Find A Grave and have a picture of the actual headstone for Samuel, Sevinia, and Sam's second wife Ann. Send me your e-mail address and I will forward it to you. Of course, the headstone does not prove that Sevinia is actually buried there. You would have to get cemetery records which I have not done. I have not worked on this line of my family for a number of years, but did want to try to respond to you, since I confused you. Hope this helps.
Denise

Denise,
I am a bit perplexed. I have burial records from Francisville Cemetery showing Mrs. Elizabeth Guss, age 29, buried 8 Mar 1833. This was in the plot owned by her parents, John George Ruhl and his wife Mary. NOTE: John George Ruhl died 27 Feb 1833, just a week before his daughter.

HOWEVER, her father, sister (Adaline Carr died 1852, age 42) and 2 Carr children, and 2 Koockogey children (one named Sevenia, 20 months old when she died in 1837) were moved to Woodland's Cemetery in Philadelphia in 1862. There is no mention of Elizabeth Guss in the Woodland's records. Do you know if the Oakland Cemetery records in West Chester indicate that she was buried there at a later date?

If I have all of this right, Sevinia Ruhl Guss also had a sister Amelia who married George Koockogey.

Brenda

Hi Brenda,
Additional info from what Pearlie sent you is that Francis Marion Guss died 15 Mar 1902 in W. Chester, PA. Sevenia Ruhl Guss died 6 Mar 1833 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery in W. Chester. You may know this, but Sevenia and Samuel's son, Henry Ruhl Guss married Eliza Cloud Laycock. She was the sister of Mary Ann Bonsall Laycock who married Isaac Cody and they were the parents of Buffalo Bill (William F. Cody).
Looking for any information on the family of sisters Nina Florence Guss (ca. 1918) and Shirley (ca. 1923) Guss.

Nina F. married Theodore Crego (my grandfather) and her sister Shirley married Theodore's brother Charles, and I believe both spent a great deal of time in California.

Hello everyone
I have just started to research my husbands family tree starting with his mother and I'm astonished to find that his ancestors originated from Dublin Ireland...we had no idea. His grandfathers name was Charles Guss and he came from Dublin born around 1870. I'm at a loss as to how I would trace irish records, any advice would be very much appreciated.
Thanks. His greatgrandfather was names Hugh Sheridan he was born in Cavan around the 1840's.
