Peter W. Gustavus - b. Mar 1881 MD, USA

I am seeking information about Peter Wilhelm Gustavus, b. 16 Mar 1881 in Maryland - likely Baltimore. His father Peter (1853-1902) was a shipbroker in Baltimore.

Peter b. 1881, apparently married a girl named Peggy, and they had two daughters, Peggy b. 1914 and Shirley b. 1916. Peter was sort of the black sheep of the family; he was also the only son born in the middle of 4 sisters.

I believe he worked as an accountant in Baltimore, Alameda, CA and maybe Ohio.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

My thanks.

No need to buy a copy. Go here and plug in M. D. Gustavous.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html.
I agree that this is probably Micajah,Jr. Since it looks like he moved to Burleson in 1885, there is a possibility that Micajah, Sr. might have still been alive. I've also found info on some of Micajah's other children.
DAFox

I will try to find out how to get a copy of the death certificate. I truly appreciate your time and effort to let me know this information and point me in a good direction.

I have a lead for you. I found a death certificate for M D Gustavous who lived in Cooks Point Texas. He died 25 Dec 1915, having lived in Burleson county for 30 years. He was 60 years old when he died. The father's name looks like it could be Cage. That is a nickname for Micajah. M D was a widower. It looks like he was going to be buried on the 26th in the Salem Cemetery. The undertaker was a J W N___y based in Caldwell.
DAFox

Charles Eugene's parents are William A Gustavus b.1845 MS and Virinia A.(Dotson -- I believe, from circumstancial evidence) b.1847 TX. Charles Eugene is found with his parents in the 1880 census for Leon County TX.
Charles Eugene's grandparents are Thomas A. Gustavus and Nancy F. Goza both b.1825 MS.

If I am correct that Virginia is a Dotson, then my ggrandmother, Julia Dotson, is her sister. Parents are Christopher Lemuel Dotson b.1818 TN and Mary Childress b.1820 AL.
My ggrandfather, Charles A Gustavus, is William A. Gustavus's brother.

I have 4 children, all girls, for Charles E and Nora.
If you have any information that you are willing to share, it would be appreciated.
Peter Wilhelm Gustavus

Peter Wilhelm Gustavus was born 16 Mar 1881 (I believe, in Baltimore) and died circa 11 Dec 1957. He is buried in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. His parents were Peter & Caroline Gustavus nee Aberle.

I am looking for information on the life of this man, as I am sure he has fathered at least two daughters with a woman named Peggy, "a farmer's daughter" (as she referred to herself in a handwritten letter to one of Peter's sisters). I believe that Peggy was born circa 1894...possibly in Ohio.

The two daughters whom she referred to in this letter are Peggy (born circa 1914) and Shirley (born circa 1916). In the letter, Peggy describes her daughters who were out playing in the yard behind a hotel in Akron. Both girls had the last name of Gustavus.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

From the tone of the letter, my impression is that for some reason this was not a marriage that Peter's family looked upon favorably.

Any information would be so appreciated. We have a few early photos of Peter that we would enjoy sharing with those related to him.

Thank you,
Kim

Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to your question; however, I feel that it's a strong possibility that your Margaret/Margery GUSTAVUS and my John GUSTAVUS are kin, if not siblings. There are not that many GUSTAVUSES floating around and the fact that they're both in GA at the same time is interesting.

This is my paternal grandmother's maiden name, so I have quite a bit of information on the GUSTAVUSES after their migration from MS to TX, if we discover that we're "related"!

I wish I had more knowledge to share with you, but please keep me in mind should you run across any other information on this family!

Kim: I have just learned my 3rd gr-grandmother, Margaret (Margery) Holliday, b. Wilkes Co., GA was first married to a Gustavis/Gustavus. Her second husband, whom she married in Washington Co., KY on 30 August 1794, was John Holloway/ Holliday,(spelled both ways on marriage bond) b. VA. Undoubtedly the Gustavus, Vardaman and Holliday families traveled together from GA>MS>Spanish West Florida (now Louisiana>MS. Margery & John Holliday's son, Zachariah, b. KY 1798, is my ancestor. (Zachariah m abt. 1823, Delilah Anderson in St. Helena Parish, LA.) John Holliday either disappears or dies in Adams Co., MS 1800. I like to think he either died or was killed. In the Index of Wills, I found Juan (John) Holliday's will listed in Book 26. Unfortunately, someone has "borrowed" Will Book 26 of the Spanish Records of Adams Co., MS and failed to return it. Several other Spanish Record Books have also been "borrowed" and not returned. After Margery takes the children to St. Helena Parish, she married Hugh Hall, who was a JP. Could your John Gustavus have been a brother to Margery Holliday's first husband??
Jean Williams Farrar, Natchez, Adams Co., MS; jwfarrar@iamerica.net

Margery (Margaret) Holliday, b. Wilkes Co., GA m. Mr. Gustavis/ Gustavus. Undoubtedly, they migrated to Washington Co., KY, where he must have died. On Aug. 30, 1794, Margaret (Margery) Gustavis/Gustavus married John Holliday, b. VA. Marriage Bond signed by John Holliday and ? Sattsman. Her guardian, James Mc(somebody-can't read his writing), gave his permission for her to marry. John & Margery migrate to the MS. Territory ca. 1800. John Holliday disappears/dies in Adams Co., MS in 1800. Spanish Will Book in the Adams County Court House has "Disappeared". In 1803, Margery takes her three children, (can't remember name of first daughter - Margaret or Elizabeth b. KY, 1795/96); Zachariah, b. KY, 1798 (my ancestor m. Delilah Anderson) and Winiford Winny m. Mr. Stewart) b. KY 1800, and migrates to Greensburg, St. Helena Parish, Spanish West Florida (now Louisiana). Is Margaret (Margery) Holliday Gustavis/ Gustavus Holliday the youngest daughter of William Holliday, b. Ireland 1723 d. 07 July 1786 Wilkes Co., GA and Ann Ayres, b. Ireland d. aft 1786, Wilkes Co., GA??? Proof needed for DAR. Help greatly appreciated. Thank you.
John GUSTAVUS

My direct line is through John GUSTAVUS 1786 GA or TN-1860 MS. I do have the names of his children, and their spouses and offspring, if interested.

John m Rhoda Elizabeth VARDEMAN in Wilkinson County, MS in 13 Mar 1806. Two days later, there is a Jemimah GUSTAVUS that marries Pearson WELLS; however, I don't know whether she and John are related or not. (There is a William WELLS household on the 1805 Wilkinson County, MS Census.)

By 1812, John GUSTAVUS is listed on the Tax List for St. Tammany Parish, LA and is also included on that same counties Census in 1820. By 1830, the family is listed on the Copiah County, MS Census.

I am hoping to learn the parents of John GUSTAVUS, as well as any other details regarding this ancestor! Any information is GREATLY welcomed!

With appreciation,
Kim
