It can be hard to find birthdates for years that early. The most likely place would be a death record, church marriage record, will or probate or possibly land records. You might get better luck if you post on the board for the county, or at least the state she was born in.
You also might look at a cemetery site, like www.findagrave.org

Birth Date Help

Hello everyone,
First, I'm not sure if I'm posting in the right place, so apologize if this is in the wrong part of the forums.

I am trying to research the actual birthday and parents for an ancestor named Sarah Hackney who married Thomas Provance/Province/Provence in the 1720's or 1730's. I have guesses for her her parents - that of Joseph Hackney 1 and Charity Harlan however, the birthdates don't add up properly. So I was hoping for some help from you all. Any info would be so SO appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Sharron,

I went through my files and pulled out two photos which we may both have. One was taken in the year 1916, Coryell Co. Texas and is noted with the caption on the back of "Peter Mac Wolf family Reunion". I received from Wayne Wolf several years ago. A copy. I was wondering if your photos have names on the back? For this photo, in row 1:Claude Wolf, Arthur Wolf,Verids McCarver, Willie Mac Wolf, Cecil Wolf, Raymond Wolf, Vernon McPeak (that's my Grandfather as a young boy) Jewel Allison, Loraine Townsend.
Row 2: Ruby Jewel Wolf, Joe Wolf, Martin Wolf, Sybil Wolf, Will Wolf, Peter Mac Wolf, Pansy Mozelle Brown, Susannah Ellen Wolf, Annis McPeak (my Great Grandmother), Mary Ellen Allison (I believe she was also known as Pink), Juanita Townsend and Nancy Lucille Townsend.
Row 3: Allie Wolf,Addie Wolf, Della Wolf, Jessie Susanna Brown "McPeak", Newt McPeak (also known as Samuel Newton McPeak -my Great Grandfather) Tom Allison and Georgia Allison.

Sharron,

Thank you, for your response concerning Pink. I guess that rules out Lucille as being Pink. It's been awhile since I have worked on the family trees or looked at the pictures I received from Wayne Wolf years ago. One of the pictures you mentioned I may have a copy of. I had gotten in contact with Wayne several years ago through my Aunt Verna Lynne "McPeak" Stewart who passed away last year. Wayne Wolf lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico. I haven't corresponded with him in several years now.
I currently live in Benson, Arizona but most of my close relatives live in New Mexico with Uncles and their families still living in Texas.

I'd be very interested in a discussion on the Wolf/Hackney lines and what information you may have, and I may have. I'd be glad to hear from you again.

Thanks,
Dar

darmc@cox.net

Dar,

My grandmother was Nancy Lucille Wolf, she married James Townsend. She was not Aunt Pink. I do remember hearing of an Aunt Pink.

I have the original wedding photo of Susannah and Peter Mac from Grandmothers estate. I also have 2 reunion photos taken at the Wolf homestead. One of the photos Grandmother was only a little girl next to her grandfather, with Wolfs and Hackneys both attending. The next photo has only Hackneys and Grandmother (Nancy Lucille) is wearing her high school graduation dress/wedding dress and has 2 of her 3 daughters with her. My mother was a very late suprise about 12 years later.

Please respond to my email if you are interested in discussing our families. My grandmother was a lovely and beloved memember of her family.

I live in the Ft Worth area.

Thanks Joan!

Also, by reading my last post, one will see the name Jehu crop up in the record, but I think the name was mis-transcribed, and in fact it is John. The "o" could easily be mis-read as an "e", and the "n" a "u". Hand written cursive documents can be mis-read easily in this regard.

I had an e-mail about this, and it was over a year ago when I looked into it, but it does explain the family correctly, as to who was the father, grandfather, and children.

Best,

Will Matney

Hi,
I am a Veal researcher. Jane Vail's father was probably the Thomas Veal found in records of the Old Swede Church marrying Mary Gothrey [I suspect her surname was Mary Godfrey] on 26 Feb 1747. Also found under Veal are the marriages of John Veal to Rebecca Stille [record says Stilley] on 23 Jan 1776 and later to Ann Springer on 17 May 1781. Samuel Veal married Christian Cheek 22 Apr 1765. The next generation apparently changed the spelling to Vail. The Veal/Vail/Veale are all apparently descended from the Veal [original spelling] borthers who came to the Boston area in the 1600s but soon moved to the tip of Long Island.
Thomas may be the son of Nehemiah Veal who settled across the river from New Castle, in Greenwich, New Jersey. I have posted quite a bit about him and the New Jersey branch of his family on WorldConnect.
Joan Best

Brantley Jones Hackney

I am looking for information on Brantley J. Hackney and how he may have died, apparently during the Civil War in Florida. I first find him as a student on the 1850 census in the Wake Forest District, Wake County North Carolina and, I’m guessing, going to the Wake County University for the ministry. In 1860 he is with his family in Wellborn, Suwannee County Florida and he is listed as a BM Preacher. I did find mention that he helped create a church in Orange County North Carolina about 1854 and he performed several marriages there till about 1857. He is listed on the Veterans Memorial at Wake Forest as a causality of the Civil War. I found a will that was originated 13 December 1862 and he was dead by January 1863. His tombstone states he died in December 1862. I can only presume he died due to wounds or perhaps illness. Since he is on the memorial I am leaning that he died due to wounds from some battle. Could anyone shed any light on this man and the Civil War (battle) or even any association with the University. I can find no reference that he joined or enlisted the Confederacy.

A little family history, he was one son of Robert Marsh Hackney and Sarah Jones. Born about 1826 in, probably, Chatham County North Carolina and died in Suwannee County Florida in Wellborn December 1862. He married Eliza Jane Brooks 20 May 1841 in Chatham County North Carolina.

Thanks for any help,
Pat Bowen
Their children that I have listed are: Martha Jane Elizabeth, Mary Ellen, William Caleb, Martin Luther, George Joseph, Nancy Lucille. Interesting, I have heard of Pink. My Aunt Verna Lynne would refer to her as Aunt Pink. Her Grandmother was Annice Wolf "McPeak". I can not be sure but I seem to remember that my Aunt believed Pink was her Aunt Lucille, just a nick name. I have a picture, of a Wolf Family reunion, which I will see about digging up out of my files. If you are interested, reply to my email.

Dar

I'm really impressed with your work on Joseph's first family. I can add a lot to his second family for you. It's late tonight, but tomorrow I will send what I have. Fortunately, I have met a "cousin" and we are working together. She is a direct descendent of joseph and has lots of family stories from her grandmother. If you send your email I can send you a link to my tree on Ancestry where there are pictures and stories and obits. I will fill in more here tomorrow.
