My husbands mums name is Joan Hagreen daughter of Gladys Smith wife of George Albert Hagreen.

Albert and Nellie Hagreen were my grandparents. My father, Harold was their second son. What was your husbands mother's name she would have been my father's sister.

Hi are trying to trace my husbands, mums family the Hagreen's. Albert Hagreen 1889-1971 and Millie Nellie Caney 1900-1989 was my mother-in-laws grandparents. This is as far as we have got. Any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I am trying to trace my husbands mums side of the family. You mentioned in your message Jean henshall and Albert Hagreen. They are my mother-in-laws aunty and uncle. We are just beginning our search but have other information if you are still looking or can offer us any information. Any help you could give us will be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather was Edward Hagreen born in Fulham, London in 1908 he had 4 brothers & sisters Gertrude, Arthur, May & Douglas. May died at a young age & Douglas was missing at sea just after the war (age of 21).

Michael, With reference to Jon Hagreen and Elizabeth Pond, Wickhambrook I have traced them back to being my Great x 6 grandparents, that would put us at about 7th cousins ?

I doing a one name study into Hagreen/Haygreen/Heggeryne etc and I have been interested in the postings for Hagreen on this webpage. I'm 36 live in Surrey, England (20 miles West of London) and I'm interested all lines of Hagreen's home and abroad. I'm using Family Tree Make Ver.10 software so I'd be interested in adding your line to my computer or any other Hagreen/Haygreen's for that matter - send gedcom files to haygrep@uk.ibm.com. Your Albert showed up on the UK online 1901 census b. 1898 Newington, Kent (Nr Sittingborn) but I don't know who is father/mother where can you assist ?

I think you may find that the hagreen (haygreen) name comes from England,UK. I have traced my ancestors back to a village called Wickhambrook in Suffolk where many Haygreens/Hagreens lived in the 1800's. I haven't managed to look back any further yet but I think they were previously in Norfolk (I have a reference to a Haygreen in Swaffham Norfolk in 1699)
My Cousin David informs me that the name goes back to the Huguenots who migrated from Europe between the 1500's and 1700's (They had their own faith protestant not Catholic)

I'll keep you posted when I found out more

Your William is my husband's Uncle Bill. The rest of the Hagreen's do live in Spokane Wa.My husbands' William Hagreen came from England and had 3 sons:
William
Fredrick-my husbands dad and he settled in Chicago
Charles-also settled in Chicago
Fren-is buried in the family plot in Superior wisconsin since 1982
My husband Dave has a brother Fred and family living in Seattle

My Grandfather was William Hagreen who lived in the Eastern Washington/Northwestern Idaho. Perhaps he was the one in WA. If I remember correctly, He might have come from the general midwest area and possibly from Wisconson. He in turn had 4 sons and 2 daughters. Most all of which are in the Spokane WA area.

Hello Iain,

I was intrigued by the reference to Albert Hagreen and I think we may be second cousins. As far as I know Albert was the son of Albert and Nellie Hagreen, his aunt, Harriet Lily Dora Hagreen (1894-1968) being my maternal grandmother.

I havent done much research on the Hagreens but the name is so rare that its a straightforward task to trace the family back to the mid 18th Century and the marriage of Jon(athon) Hagreen and Elizabeth Pond in 1741 at Wickhambrook Suffolk. Beyond that I think the name may originate in Norfolk as there are references to the name (or its variants) back to the 15th Century.

Couldnt find the message that Alan was replying to (finding roots), how are you related?.

We are second cousins, my paternal grandparents
were Albert & Nellie Hagreen and your grandmother
was his sister. Your grandmother lived in
Sittingbourne I am told (where her parents were married
I believe)my grandfather moved to Cliffe aroung
1920. I am told I met your grandmother in 1954
or 1955 before we moved to Canada.
As for the message that Alan was referring to
I have no idea. He may be my cousin Geoffrey's
son but I am not sure.

near Rochester England in 1927 I think. He
emegrated to Canada in the 1970s, died 1986?.
His children (Christine 1951 Geoffry 1953)
were born in England emigrated with him.
He had 2 brothers, Harold (my father 1925 -
1999), George (1922? - 1984?), 1 sister Vera
(1929?. My father had 5 children, the first
four born in England and the fifth in Canada
Donald(1945),Barbara (1949), Alison (1950),
Iain(1952),Harold (1962). Now who are you?
