Halbert is not connected to a sword. However, it is connected to a battle axe known as a halberd. In fact, the Halbert Family Coat of Arms contains a shied of red with a white chevron, bordered by three battle axes (halberds).

I hope this helps.

Donald Ross Halbert
Lac du Bonnet, Manitoba
Canada

Hi Craig,
Saw you on Ancestry too. I was working on the Halbert family for a friend of mine. I got the family back to John Halbert born c1858 in Scotland and wife Mary, born Scotland c1865. I'd love to know who John's parents were...assume his grandfather was the John Halbert (1801-1861) you mentioned.
I see that you have Elsie Halbert's maiden name as Palmblad. wonder where you found that information? any help you can offer will be very much appreciated.
Best regards, Pat
I will see if I can find any info. for you. I think he might be Zeno Halbert's son. Have you tried contacting Ken Fiebelman? He has researched a lot of the Crawford and Dent County families and published it in various books. He lives near Salem,Mo.-which is very close to Sligo.
Was Frank Samuel Halbert one of the Halbert's that worked at the Sligo smelter in the late 1800's-early 1900's? A lot of Halberts worked there.

Eliza Ann Halbert/Holbert

I am at wits end. Eliza was my Great Grandmother and married my Great Grandfather Franklin Alexander Hayes in Giles County, Tenn. in 1870. My records show her Father was a Lewis Halbert, supposedly married to Elizabeth Loyd. They were married in 1844 in Limestone Co. Alabama. I cannot find Lewis Halbert listed anywhere, when they show Halbert's descendancy. Can anyone shed any light on this. You can email me direct: rpope@281.com

Jo Anna

Hello from Ajax, Ontario.

I am presently reading a book/diary written by my grandfather, William Johnstone (1911-2005). He was born in the mining village of Craigmark - near Dalmellington, Ayr. In his book he makes mention of an "Andy" Halbert - Black Watch soldier returning after WWI. He had an injured leg. He was one of many mentioned as "The Craigmark Warriors" - men of the village who went off to war. This may or may not be the man you're looking for, but I hope it helps somewhat. .....Anne Johnstone

Re: Halbert's of MS

William G Halbert and Nancy Chandler were my Great Great Grandparents too. Ann Mayo Halbert their youngest Dtr. married H.H.Hilburn my Great Grandfather. She died about 1883-84, buried Mississippi, plot unknown. H.H. Hilburn married a Martha Turner and moved to Luther,OK. They are both buried at the Luther cemetary. I have William G. Halbert born abt 1825,Alabama. Nancy Chandler born 1820,Franklin co.,GA. They married March 8,1841 in Lauderdale co.,Al. Nancy's parents are John Chandler III,b.1773,Franklin co.,Ga.d.bef. 1870,Lauderdale,Al. Mother Rhonda Longmire Sandridge b.1794,d.bef.1870. I have more info. on the Chandlers, but have not narrowed down William G. Holberts parents. Ann lists her parents on one census as F.b.Va.M.b.SC. Ann Halbert was b.Al. Another person had Nancy Chandler born in Al. Both William Halbert and Nancy Halbert have on the 1850 Monroe,Mississippi census that they were both born in Alabama. Telitha and Lucretia Halbert were listed as born in Mississippi on the 1850 census. I am in the process of trying to narrow down the truth. Several of the William Halberts b.1825-1826 have a twin. Hope this helps and is not too confusing. Rosalie (Hilburn) Sears. jimrosalie.sears3@gmail.com

Harminus Halbert Death Information

From Burlington Free Press, Dec 23 1859

Fatal Accident

On Friday of last
week, Mr. Harminus Halbert, of Westford,
met with a severe accident, which has since
proved a fatal one. He was out fox-hunting,
and in the act of carrying his loaded gun on
his shoulder with the muzzle forwards, when
he slipped and fell. The gun was discharged
by his fall, and strangely enough, the charge
(a heavy one of large shot) wounded his
shoulder slightly, and then striking the front
of his thigh tore the flesh out deeply, and
also injured his knee and foot to a considerable degree Ho was some miles from home ;
but his call for help was heard by persons in
the neighborhood of the accident,by whom he
was conveyed home, and medical aid was
soon obtained. Though his wounds were severe, it was not thought they would provefatal.
Monday morning, however, the inflammation
of his wound and tho surrounding parts assumed a very dangerous aspect, and before
night it was seen that the result must be
fatal. He died about six o'clock P. M.

I am not related to this person. Found the article while doing research on another family.

Luther Halbert was known as Uncle Luther in my family. He was my mother's uncle and brother of my grandmother Cora Louisa Halbert Massey. His parents were James Madison Halbert and Angieline Lorena Lyle Halbert. He had one other sister that we knew as Aunt Angie. I believe her name was Angiline Irene but can't find it written anywhere. I'm pretty sure she married a guy named Porter.
I know that Angieline Lyle did remarry after the death of James Madison. She also married a man named Porter, first name Howell.
I recently found some photos of Grandma, Aunt Angie and Uncle Luther together. One photo shows another woman who may be Uncle Luther's wife. If I can find a way to post them here I will put them up for you.

Hello. To whom it may concern, I am the great grandson of Mattie Lucinda Halbert and Joseph S. Martin. My grandmother, Nina Martin, was married to their son Hobert "Kirk" Martin. She constructed a family tree binder many years ago. Nina Martin passed away two weeks ago at the age of 90.
I would be willing to look up what information I might have that would assist.

My names is Stacey Malone James. Luther Halbert was my great grand father. My grand mother was Ollie Faye Halbert Malone. My father is Dan Autry Malone, son of Ollie Halbert and Cecil Malone. Your grandfather was born on Chritmas Eve and that is why the Halberts celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. He was married to Lottie Carter. Everyone called him "Papa". I'm not sure exactly how old he was when he died but I believe he was 99 years old. You are welcome to call me 254-485-5374. My dad Dan or my aunt Paulette could give you much more information than I. I guess they are your 1st cousins. I know my grandmother had lots (maybe 10) brothers and sisters. Hope this information helps.

I am the granddaughter of George Arthur Halbert whose parents were William and Sarah Morgan Halbert, so I would be the great granddaughter. I live in Lexington, KY.
Joel Sandridge Halbert is my Great Grandfather. He was married to Sarah Jane Stafford. My grandfather is Edgar Karlton Halbert. My father is David Stafford Halbert, but has not lived in Alabama since 1937. I don't know of a Halbert that lived in Decatur, AL in the 50's. We have relatives on the other side still living in Alabama, but the Edgar Karlton Halberts lived in Texas from the 30's on.

The only person with this name I can find in Mississippi records was a 4 year old at the Mississippi Methodist orphanage in 1930. My grandmother (Ruby Josephine Ates Townsend) went to school in Star, MS for awhile so this girl may have been living there. Anyone know her?
Thanks,
Ann

Leona is buried beside my grandfather, William Eli Halbert there at the Fox Cemetery. William and Leona had three children, Thelma, Edith and Guy Halberet.
