Ron,

It is interesting you mention Eljiah changing his name. My Aunt made reference to a family member stating that Elijah changed his name, but she did not recall who this was or why? I have since disconnect Barbara Ober as I cannot support the evidence behind this.

I am guessing your research supports the linegage you have on the Hale's taking it beyond Abram?

Thanks for any clarity you can provide or information.

Danny

I have an Abram Hale born August 3, 1770 in Baltimore, Md. Died 22 August, 1829 in Flemingburg, Ky. married Amanda Amelia Pickrell. They had a son named Abram born 1811. Abram did marry a Rebecca Kershner or Rebecca Casner Kershner. They did have a son by the name of Elijah who did change his name to William Michael Patrick Hale. I question a marriage of Abram Hale to Barbara Ober. I cannot find any proof of that marriage. E-mail me at rojoha2@live.com.

Update on my research of my Hale line.

A before unknown cousin was located who is the great granddaughter of Henry Hale a brother to John Hale, my great grandfather. She stated that her mother (Mary Quinn) always told her and her brother they were not really Hale. They were AKERS. Her mother told them an Aker was adopted either by Henry Hale or his father John Hale, my great great grandfather.

Any one know of an Akers that was taken in or adopted by a Hale family in KY, TN, or VA?

Thanks for any help.

John Hale
At this time I'm not sure which Hale would have been adopted. I'm trying to get info on how I'm related to this Hale that emailed me. I would think we would be on the same parental line since my Y-DNA is Akers and they say one of their great or great great grandfather's were adopted by a Hale.

I've been thinking my gg grandfather (John Hale) is the adopted Akers, but they state their mother said it was their great grandfather that was adopted. After looking at their family tree, their great grandfather is one of my great uncles.

Wow, I looked at your family tree and it seems we are related through my grandma Cooper, not my father's surname Hale. I discovered through a Y-DNA test that I'm not probably a Hale, but either an Acker, Aker, or Akers. It seems that a Hale family adopted an Acker, Aker, or Akers. In an email I received from another Hale today they have Akers in their blood line. It seems their mother always told them that they were really Akers, and a Hale adopted their great grandfather.
I also am looking for information on a Joseph Hale. He was married October 1868 in Sullivan county TN and by 1880, his wife was back living in the home with her father with her 2 sons and marked as widowed/divorced. There is no record of them that I can find on the 1870 census. I have never seen Joseph with her on any records and in city directories later on she is listed as widow of Joseph (that is how I was able to find his name since it is listed as J. Hale on the marriage license)
If anyone runs across my Joseph or if you all think it might be the same one PLEASE contact me...he has been a brick wall for many years...

I just found your discussion of the HALEs of SW VA, and I descend from the John HALE, b. abt. 1765 in VA, who is among the group you all seem to be in. My brother took the test for me. My John HALE lived in Franklin Co, VA, and m. 17 Mar 1789, Susannah WADE, dau. of John Utley WADE and Alice "Ally" WOODRUM all three b. Goochland Co, VA. John died in Franklin Co in 1833, Susannah in 1847. They are buried on their farm just north of Ferrum, VA. Don't know whose little boy John was, and am hoping y'all can help me find out. Will share.

I'm still looking for the parents of John Butler HALE. He was born in Tennessee between 1810 & 1820, lived in Mississippi for a while. He married Mary HUBBARD 13 October 1837 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi he was living in Panola County, Mississippi in 1840, He moved to carroll County Arkansas in 1841, and from there to Pope County, Arkansas where his wife Mary died before 1853, and then he married Mary PETTY before 1856. That is the last trace I have found of him. Any additional information anyone can give me about him or his parents will be greatly appreciated.

gwait1@suddenlink.net

Acker, Aker, Akers and possible connection to Hale

I’m trying to find information on my great great grandfather - John Hale. He was born 1800-1820 in one of these Virginia counties: Grayson, Washington, or Wythe. He is shown in the 1850 census for Perry County, Kentucky and the 1860 census for Magoffin County, Kentucky. In these census he is shown with his wife – Sarah ”Sally” Fawbush and children. According to Magoffin County court records he died at the Magoffin County Home in 1877, while at the Home he was known as ‘Ol Cherokee John Hale.

I submitted a Y-DNA test at Family Tree( DNA (FTDNA) hoping to find matches with other Hale’s at the Hale DNA Project at FTDNA. My only match was with a known cousin at the Hale DNA Project, my cousin and I only matched each other and no other Hale’s.

FTDNA notified me of a perfect match through the 12 Marker and 25 Marker tests with a person of the surname – Aker. On the 37 Marker test I match this Aker with a 2 Marker difference, and on the 67 Marker test I match them with a 3 Marker difference. According to a chart on genetic difference these matches and even with the genetic distance, I’m related to this Aker. I joined the Aker DNA Project and noticed that I also match an Akers with a perfect match on the 12 Marker test, and I match an Acker with a 1 Marker difference on the 12 Marker test. Again, according to the chart on genetic difference, I am related to the Akers, and probably related to the Acker (with additional info provided, such as traditional genealogy records). My known cousin, also matches these same Acker, Aker, and Akers.

This has led me to believe that my great great grandfather was not a Hale, but an Acker, Aker, or Akers. Does anyone have any information of an Acker, Aker, or Akers that may have been adopted by, indentured as a laborer/servant, or changed their name to Hale?

Thanks for any help.

John Hale

I think John Hale in your list was born 1813-1818 in Floyd County, KY. His parents were Benjamin Hale, his mother either Dicey Franklin or Mary "Polly" Hollandsworth. According to some family tree info at Ancestry.com he was murdered while tending his crops in 1863 in Magoffin County, KY, supposedly for some gold coins he was carrying. Also, according to Ancestry.com trees John Hale's brother-in-law Harry(?) Stone tracked one of the murderers down and killed him.
