Surnames: Hall, Church
I am interested in John Church who may have married a Miss Stamper who had several children then died and John Church, known as Yankee John Church then married Jane Andrews and then he died either in 1806 or 1811. I am descended from Yankee John Church's son Benjamin Church b.1763 in Lewis Fork, Rowan (now Wilkes) County, NC.

I do know that folks were not referred to as Yankees prior to the 1840s unless they were from New England. So Yankee John Church was actually born in New England and moved to NC or spent a lot of time in New England and was given the nickname 'Yankee' because of that. Maybe there were two John Church's and one was a yankee and that is how the two of them were distinguished from each other in converstion.

If you could find out, believe me, lots and lots of people would be very grateful to you. We have all hit a brick wall with Yankee John Church. So if you could find out if the John Church b.1734 that you mentioned was called 'Yankee John', I personally would be very grateful.

I am interested in the Hall family of NC because my nephew married a Hall whose Grandparents came from there.

Thank you so much for your help. I really do appreciate it.
