Hi, Thank you for that. My great great grandfather William Halse was George's (the sculptor)older brother. Picture I have painted in 1822 shows John Halse, who was the State Page at age 39 and William aged 5, Geroge had not been born. Are you able to send details to me at:
louisedelarue(at)ihug(dot)co.nz
I could not seem to access your site. Are you in UK? I am in New Zealand. William came to New Zealand with wife when older. Clarissa was 30 in the painting I have. Kind regards

Actually its my wife who may be related, and I'm trying to prove an illegitimate descent from a younger daughter, Clarissa Tindall HALSE.

I received a brief bio on the State Page from an English descendant of George Frederick, the sculptor. I'd be happy to send it to you if you could contact me off-line at "arvernien(at)comcast(dot)net".
Hi, Have been researching William Halse, Henry's older brother. Have a copy of a portrait by T J Stump, painted in 1822 shwing John Halse aged 39, Clarissa 30, John (6), William (my great, great, grandfather) (5), and 3 year old Henry. William was born in St James Palace, and I expect Henry was too? Their father worked as an assistant to King George IV. Both William and Henry came to New Zealand (New Plymmouth), so we are distant relatives!!

This does shed a lot of light on the origins of the Halse name and is backed in several other sources as well
.
http://www.pal2pal.com/genealogy/halsey_family.htm

http://west-penwith.org.uk/burianh.htm

Some heavy reading but is an eye opener for Halse family members .

You probably have this by now, but she was probably Jane HALSE, b. 27 Sep 1854 in Taranaki to Henry HALSE and Mary Ann SHAW. Henry emigrated to NZ along with his older brother William.

Henry was b. 8 Jan 1820 in Knipton, Leicestershire to John Halse and Clarissa FENWICK.

John was b. 22 Jul 1782 in Mortlake, Surrey to John Halse and Seliza (sp?) LOVELESS.

I am researching Henry's younger sister Clarissa Tindall HALSE, b. 31 May 1823 in Stafford Place, Pimlico, London.

Robert K.
Chicago, IL

I am trying to trace my family history surname Halse also. They settled in the Ballarat area. My grandfathers name was John, his father's name was Henry, his mother Mary nee Arthur and both parents are buried at Ballarat cemetery along with a brother William Leslie and his wife May Louise nee Fields. There were are 6 or 7 in my grandfather's family, an Alberta, Thomas an Agnes I think.. I would be very interest to hear from anyone who may be related.

I have just begun tracing my brother-in-law's family, and he is an Iowa Halse whose family origins are in Molland. His great-grandfather, Philip Halse (b. 1861) was born in Molland, as were Phlip's father, Lewis John Halse (b. 1837), and grandfather, Lewis Courtenay Halse (b. 1807). Do you have information on the Halses from Molland that you would be willing to share with me? Thanks very much.

The poster of this message is no longer at the email address given (reddler@aol.com), so if you are still out there, I believe you are related to the family I have just begun to research. Arthur Washington Halse (my great-grandfather) may be either the sibling or cousin of your grandmother Minnie. I am awaiting records of his birth (1871) and marriage (1899) - but I am guessing from an 1890 census that his parents may be Clara and Alexander Halse and Alexander's father may be John Alexander Halse, a "widower from New Brunswick". I am the daughter, of the daughter, of Arthur Halse's daughter, Bernice (Halse) Stuart 1904-1974, also buried in Claremont, NH (where she and her husband Bruce lived while I was growing up).

Hello,

I am currently searching for info about the Hals side of my family. Lena Hals was born around 1883 and died around 1966 in Mtn. Park, OK. She was my great-grandmother. She had a brother named Joe who was born in 1885 and died in 1964. I know they had other brothers and sisters, I just don't know their names. I do not know their parents names either. Lena married Warren P Dempsey around 1901 and they had seven children: Rueben, Joe (my grandfather), Charlie, Ned, Cleave, Pauline, and Lilith. I would appreciate any info. I would be happy to provide info about Lena's descendants. Thank You.

Zoe Barnard (zoebarnfam@westok.net)

Hi Miriam:
John Halse, Judge of the King's Bench lived at Keyndon Kingsbridge,Devon. His son was also John Halse(1401-1490) and became Bishop of Lichfield. His statue is stillin the Cathedral. This Halse family lived at Keyndon from 1390to 1680when a Matthew Halse left it to one of his sisters.Another sister had married a brother of Sir Jonathan Trelawney,Bp of Bristol, of fame as one of the 7Bishops in the Tower(1688).The Halse family line continued via an uncle of Matthew, who was a vicar in Cornwall. This Halse family next appears at Woodhouse Barton in the parish of Sidbury(East Devon )at around 1760.A John Halse was churchwarden of Sidbury in 1820.This is the line that continuesin East Devon and links to my family.I have further info on this, but this is probably getting boring.Enjoy your holiday and good hunting. David.
