Robert Solomon Ham and Ellen Ratliff had a son named John Harrison Ham born March 18, 1868. He and Lilly Niblett had a son named Robert Jefferson Ham born November 10, 1896.

He did not have any siblings by either of those names.

Hope this helps.

2012,
Greg Ham,
Men at Work musician found dead.
SYDNEY (AP) — Greg Ham, a member of the Australian band Men at Work whose saxophone and flute punctuated its smash 1980s hits, was found dead in his Melbourne home on Thursday.
he hadn't been the same since 2010, when a court ruled that his signature flute riff from the song "Down Under" Victoria state police confirmed that the deceased was the 58-year-old resident of Ham's house but did not identify him by name, in keeping with local practice. Ham was 58 and neighbors said he was the lone occupant of the house.
Men at Work topped charts around the world in 1983 with the songs "Down Under" and "Who Can it Be Now?" and won a Grammy Award that year for Best New Artist.
He also played keyboards. More recently he worked as a guitar teacher.
(April 19, 2012)

Re: George Ham, Connecticut

Yes, all information is important. Your grandfather's last name is a clue. He may have the last name of someone who lived close to George Ham. That can be determined by looking at the census. Many families traveled and moved in a group. That may give a clue. Looking at the history of both the family whose name he carried and George Ham's family may give a clue as to why his mother bore Ham's child but ended up married to someone else. This was during the time of WWI, when many men went off to war and never returned. Also, many men went West to seek their fortunes leaving wives and sweethearts at home. They may have intended to return but never did. Some simply disappeared, buried in unmarked graves. So you see, every scrap of information is important to a researcher.

My ancestor is John Ham/Hamm. He disappeared and his wife married his brother. The Ham family is very large. I have searched many years trying to find where he went and haven't come up with anything, yet.

Your search may be difficult, but not impossible. Look at the census I mentioned, there may be clues there for you to investigate.

Good luck.

Thanks for the information. My grandfather was "illegitimate" and didn't have George Ham's surname, so I didn't think it was important. As I mentioned, we didn't even know this connection until after he passed away and we pulled his birth certificate from the hospital. That's where we saw who was listed as is father - it wasn't the man who raised him or whose name he had. He never knew his biological father. That's what makes it so difficult. As I said, all we know is what is listed on the birth certificate and what I put in the note.

I thought I posted the note on the "Ham" board. Did I not?

What board did you post your query on?
I found George Ham, age 36, living in Bridgeport, Fairfield, CT in 1910. He is married with two children. Since you didn't put in your great grandfather's first or last name, no connection can be assumed. You will have to list your ggrandfather's name, birthdate, place of birth, assumed parents, etc. and any other information you know if you want to find out more. Someone may have information or be willing to help if you give them enough information to start.

George Ham, Connecticut

After my grandfather died in 2007, we found out that who we thought was his father, actually wasn't. Here's what we know from my grandfather's birth certificate: his father was a man named George Ham, who was 38 when my grandfather was born in Feb 1915 (so must have been born about 1877), he was a mechanic, he resided in Hartford CT and was born in Washington CT. A long-since deceased aunt once said that George Ham was from Simsbury CT. And that's all the information we have. I can't find anyone that even comes close to any of this on any census' or directories, etc. I just would love to know if this person even existed or was made up! If he did exist, is there a picture? I'd just love to find this missing piece. Thank you!

Barbara,

In the strictest sense of the word, I don't need that info. I am attempting to include information on my database for our descendants and other genealogy researchers. The whole process is a growing and living history of our families. Like it or not we (you and I) are cousins. While we have never met, we are family no matter how distant. Chances are we may never meet.

During the course of my genealogy research, I have successfully contacted many remote cousins by email or Facebook or Rootsweb, etc. I've even personally met a few in my travels. I'm not asking anyone for money nor am I selling anything nor am I offering to give any money to anyone (unless I win a lottery). I am just compiling information that is the current or past history of our families for the enjoyment of the process and to pass on to those that follow.

You certainly have the choice not to contribute and I'll understand. You won't be the first. I've even offered to take our communication off-board so that the 'whole world' won't read it. It is not my intention to insult or cause harm to you or anyone else with this research.

If you are no longer interested in continuing this communication don't reply. It's as simple as that. However, I would appreciate your assistance with my research and look forward to your decision what ever that may be.

Sincerely,
Keith Hunter
Indianapolis
keith@hunterfromtexas.com
Barbara,
With some help, I've come across the death certificate of Leta where her father was listed as O.B. Brown. (What was she doing on the coast?) I've seen the California death index listing for her husband John F, but I haven't found the marriage record (yet).

I've had some luck tracking Elsie's marriage and family. However, I'm not sure if Goldena (Goldie) married Charles Bond. Do you know? I've seen where her son Richard was KIA in the Pacific theatre (I haven't found his marriage to Louise yet). And... I haven't begun to track Willetta (yet).

A Dewitt descendant sent me the transcribed obit for Roy from the Kansas City Star. So I'm slowly making progress. Hopefully you'll be willing to help.
Keith

It's always possible that there is a link. Do you know where your Ham family came from?

Barbara,
I'm not sure if it's the same Bob, but the one I have in my database is the son of Felix. He is my 2nd cousin twice removed. This could be the Bob that has put together so much information on the Ham family, but there again, I'm not sure.

I feel lucky anytime I contact a living 'cousin'. It's an opportunity to expand my research and knowledge. There's a boatload of them out there (like yourself) so it's great that you've replied.

Have you been in touch with Leta's family? I'd like to add her descendants and get your family up-to-date as well. You may contact me off board.
Keith

Elise(Delila) was never a adopted, I am not sure about Roy, but Leta was. She probably got the best deal of all of them. The family that adopted her was a doctor and his wife. They took the death of their mother very well. Is Bob Ham a uncle or cousin to you?

Barbara

Barbara,
Leta would be my 1st cousin twice removed (which also makes you a cousin). Delila was her older sister Their father, Taylor, was my g-granduncle. Taylor's sister, Fanny, married Robert Harris Milliken and I'm descended through them.

Were the girls adopted, as was Roy, after the death of their mom? I'd like to add their families (which includes you) to our family tumbleweed database.

You can see some of my work at http://www.familytumbleweed.com.

Keith

Mr./Mrs. Palmer,

I was glancing at some NC and Alabama census records the other night. Seems the Ham family were pretty well established. It looks like there were 3 or 4 brothers who left NC toward Alabama (this is all from memory).

I haven't worked my way back up the tree from Bright Riley, yet. I've been filling in the easier blanks on his descendants. However, any info you have would be greatly appreciated. You can email me directly.

Who knows... I may wind up in Columbia, SC doing some genealogy research. I have current day family down that way so I'll have two excuses to make the trip.

Hi I am related to yourself through Jane Ham who married a John Isbell, a master mariner. He was the son of George Isbell who had Caffa Mill. I have a vast amount of information on the Hoals descending from John and Jane (Honey) the Hoals were a large family and link in to many of the prominent local families in Fowey and Polruan notably the Slades, Nickells, Hicks etc in the early to mid 1800's. The Chapmans are only briefly in Fowey as they are custom officers and move around the country but are related to the Hoals by marriage. Jane was the daughter of James and Sarah (Hoal)Ham. Sarah was in a draper and grocery business with Joseph Ham , I believe the brother of James.

My father was related to the Ham branch also. He started working on his family history many years ago and then passed away several years ago. I am trying to pick up the pieces of the history that he started working on. My Great Grandmother was Ida Mae Ham born in 1872 and died in 1944 in Pike Co., IL. Her parents were Clayborn Ham born in 1827 in TN and he married America C. James. My Third Great Grandfather was James Ham bor in 1796 in Pendleton Co, SC and died in 1868 in Pike County, IL. he marrie mary Polly Broyles. He father was Joshua Ham and he married Mary Williams. I have joshua's death date as 1837 in McCracken Co, TN. I do not have any other information about him or any further back. Do you have any information on this line of Hams? Thank you so much for any information that you might have.
