Hello I have been looking for Mary's last name for a while now and I come across your post.. My GGGrandparents are William and Mary Hamlet, we just never had her maiden name. My Great Grandfather was John Hamlet, must be Lucy's brother, who was married to Sarah Drucilla Barrow, who had 3 children Edith, Enoch and Trudie.. Edith Mae Hamlet is my Grandmother.. John was born in Newton County also in 1863 or 1861 because there are two different dates for him. We must be kin somehow.. My Father is Dan A. Odom who was Edith's son from her marriage to Daniel Webster Odom..Do you happen to know anything about Mary's Parents.. If I have any information you might need just ask.. I haven't been searching for my ancestors very long but I have came across alot of interesting stuff..My email address is Montannasgrammy@aol.com feel free to email me back there..

There are two families with William Hamlet as the father and the children are the same except the mothers names are different, Polly for one and Mary for the other.. One is a 1880 census and the other is a 1870 census, so it is really confusing as to which one is who I am kin to.. I thought it was Mary until I saw the one with Polly...Unless Mary's name is Mary Polly Metz..I will continue to try to figure this out...Sorry if I jumped to conclusions about our family being kin..

Hello. I know that my grandmother's name is Karen Gilbert. She had my dad (Ryland Clarence Hamlet) in 1959. She met my grandfather in the military because her father was in the miltary. After they had my dad, my grandfather abandoned him. However, she told me the male generations on his side were all Ryland Clarence Hamlets or Clarence Ryland Hamlets. I believe she did mention a Richard in our family. I don't know much about my dad's biological side of the family. I would actually like to meet you someday to see if we are related. My number is (209)531-8424. My Dad's number is (408)242-9794. My dad's e-mail adress is wtpmjgda1@yahoo.com or ndayola@yahoo.com. I am his daughter. My email adress is mhamlet@sbcglobal.net. I am 18 and now go to college in Utah, while my father remains in California. Please, contact us soon!!!

This is who I have so far:

Abner Hamlet (1798-1864) married to Sarah Inge (1793-1869)

William Henry Hamlet (1834-1911) married to Angeline Annie Adams (1842-1929)

Jefferson F Hamlet (1875-1952) married to Sarah A M Thompson (1878-?)

I have not been able to find any information on or past Abner Hamlet or Sarah Inge. If these people are in your tree, I'd love to have your help. Thanks.

Tiffany
Lynn, according to the Jackson Co. Cemetery Book, Joseph Armel Hamlet is buried in the Pharris Cemetery in the McCoinsville Community along with his wife Louvina Gentry. Armel b. 15 Feb. 1866 d. 25 Oct. 1926, Vina b. 15 Dec. 1873 d. 1 Oct. 1957. There is a note beside their listing that Maude McGlasson has Armel's dates as b. 16 Feb. 1866 d. 25 Oct. 1925. It also states that the Jackson County TN. death certificate #26894 has Armel's death as 25 Sept. 1926. I hope this info helps.

Louvina Gentry was the daughter of Henderson Brown Gentry and his wife Louvenia "Viney Lou" Loftis Gentry. I found Vina and Joseph Armel Hamlet in 1900 and 1910 and 1920 in Jackson County, Tennessee. Do you know where they are buried? I saw that Masco P. Hamlet and his wife were buried in Pharris Cemetery in Jackson County. Also buried there is Vina Hamlet with a December 1873 birthdate which is perfect for Louvina Gentry Hamlet, but someone has added "Stewart" as part of the name on findagrave.com. I think the "Stewart" is the Vina Stewart who married John J. Hamlet and is also buried at Pharris.

Really? the scandal! Didn't they realise I would be searching for them 140 years later?? I suppose that could explain the lack of marriage record and in that case I would have to use other means to try and trace Ann's family.

I guess I should also look for likely previous marriages too. Another person has replied with a very probable record for Harry's marriage to Ellen which would at least pin down his details a bit more.

In fact Isabella herself seems to have some issues surrounding the date of her marriage and her oldest son is probably illegitimate to my reckoning. My great aunt was not aware of it so I guess these things were not spoken of.

Thanks so much. I had noticed that Harry and Ann before and the fact that he was also a Painter, that there was a GLoucs connection, names correlating etc did raise my interest.

You are right he does seem to have put Surrey in 1891 (curse census records) though it has also been checked through and the city is NK (not known). In 1881 he specifies Gloucester. I do get the impression he is not always giving the correct answers though.

The Harry Hamlet in London would actually be a cousin of the Harry I thought might be mine.. There are a few Harry Hamlets all with GLoucester links and as usual the same family names come up again and again. I guess the main thing that puts me off other than the dates and locations is that Ann's family name is Beales and is a Spinster whereas I know her maiden name was Williamson.

Well done with that record in 1889, how did I miss that? That absolutely HAS to be them I think. The birthplace of Ellen adds up and Ann would seem to have died 18 months previously. ALtrincham isn't very far from Salford either. I think that record could confirm Harry's origins which could make it all much more clear.

Altrincham registry records are now held in Trafford, do you know if people can pass in person to collect certificates at local registry offices? I have family in that direction and I myself am in Italy.

Thanks for your help. I agree that the age discrepency did make me wonder a little. However I have come across people where there is even more disagreement between census and birth records who are 100% definately the right person. I think it is more common when they move far from home and also if they marry somebody older they tend to alter things a little. Census records can be really misleading though hey?

It has also crossed my mind that perhaps they were both widowers owing to their age but I don't think that would affect the registration of their union would it?

The other tree with Isabella on is also somebody known to me (common ancestor) and I think she may have got the Hughes surname from talking through various records with me. I have Isabella's birth cert' so the maiden name was definately Williamson.

Hi,

Just a few thoughts from me:

In the 1861 census there is a Harry Hamlet born St Pancras aged 20 he was a PAINTER and his parents were James (a plumber) born Gloucester and Sarah. They are living in Finchley.

Marriage of Harry Hamlet to Ann Beales at St Peters Islington
30th Jan, 1871
Harry Hamlet, full age, Bachelor, Plumber, 93 Bride Street, father James Hamlet, Plumber
Ann Beales, full age, Spinster, 93 Bride Street, father John Beales Deceased, Farmer
Witnesses Richard Smart and Henry Smith.

A few months later on the 1871 census he was Henry Hamlet and is back to being a painter (born Islington), but has upped his age to 34, possibly because this Ann was aged 38. They are living at the same address given on the above marriage. This Ann was born Norfolk !!

In the 1881 Harry says he was born Gloucester and in 1891 he says he was born Surrey – perhaps he was hiding something.

I think Harry Hamlet married Ellen Dabbs in 1899 at Altrincham, Cheshire. Ellen Dabbs I believe was born in Dawley, Shropshire the same as Ellen Hamlet in the 1901 census.

I hope this makes sense.

M

Had a look at the free 1881 on familysearch and Harry says he is 39, so born c1842...unusual for someone born c1845/6 to say they are older, don't you think? Also, Harry jr was born when parents were 36 and 35....have you considered that you can't find the marriage because one of them was already married?

I can see 2 family trees on Ancestry that have Isabella, one with your surname.... but her mother is recorded as Ann HUGHES not WILLIAMSON.

Sue

Marriage of Henry (harry) Hamlet and Ann Williamson c. 1870s

I urgently need help finding the marriage record or indeed any info on my ggrandparents who lived in Salford.

My great grandmother Isabella Hamlet was born in 1879 in Pendleton, Salford, Lancs. On her birth certificate her parents are listed as Harry Hamlet and Ann Williamson.

On the 1881 census she is living in Pendleton with her parents and older brother Harry (born Mar 1878). Harry snr. gives his birthplace as Gloucester and Ann as Cockermouth, Cumberland.

I am almost 100% certain that Harry is Henry Hamlet born 1845-6 in Gloucester to Nathaniel Hamlet and Mary Dooner. However Ann Williamsons in Cumbria born c. 1845 are plentiful.

I can find NO marriage records for the couple though I would assume that they married in c. 1875-7. There is a marriage for a Henry Hamlet in Manchester in 1874 but to a Hannah Brounswood. Obviously information on this marriage would be crucial to me finding Ann's origins and confirming Harry's parents.

By 1891 Harry has remarried "Ellen" who may or may not be the mother of the youngest child Tom Hamlet. They are still living in Pendleton, Lancs I cannot find a record of this marriage either.

Help me please. I am visiting my 97 year old great aunt, the youngest daughter of Isabella, soon and would love to be able to show the information to her.

Hamlets in Giles County Tennessee

I am looking for any information regarding the family of William E. Hamlet, born 1832 In Giles County, TN, died 1904 in Marshall County, KY. His death record only lists the name of his father, Carter Hamlet. Carter Hamlet's birthplace was listed as Tennessee on the death record. William's mother's name was not listed on the death record.

It would appear that James Carter may have gone by the name Carter. An 1850 Census record for Giles County lists a Carter Hamlet with birthplace of Virginia. That record lists a Martha C. Hamlet of the same age as being in the household. I am assuming that was his spouse. There were several children listed. Below that record, William E. Hamlet, 18 years old, was listed as head of household with Sarah A, 20 year old, and Nancy Nolly, age 74. Nancy Nolly may have been incorrectly listed in the Hamlet household, as there is another Nolly family listed immediately below. Or, she could have been someone's grandmother who was living with the Hamlets.

If anyone has any insight into any of this, I surely would appreciate some assistance, especially in finding generation of Hamlet's that came before Carter.

They had eight children.

I also have the spelling as Metz. I believe I have a marriage cert. for them and her name is spelled "Metz". Was your father, Armel from Uncle Masco's first marriage with Elizabeth or second marraige from Clara?
Hi Doug, yes Dewy Esco Hamlet is my mother Mary Hamlet's father and my grandfather. There was a HUGE Hamlet population from Gainesboro Tennessee. Dewy Esco Hamlet married Nina Smith, my grandmother. My Uncle Mosco married his first wife, Elizabeth(lizzie) Smith and I am so curious to know if Dee, Elizabeth and Nina were sisters. My mom lost her parents when she was very young and her brother, Hubert and his family, did the best they could to raise the family. I have not been to Gainesboro since a little girl. That is the first and last time I met my mothers uncle Mosco and his family. My e-mail is colettos@optonline.net.
My mother is Mary Hamlet, born in 1936.Daughter of Dewy Hamlet and Nina Smith. Niece to Masco Hamlet. My mothers grandfather is Armel Hamlet who I believe was a son of David Hamlet. They all had farms in Gainsboro TN. I have been told, that in the past, the Hamlet family had a HUGE annual family reunion in Gainsboro TN. I have never visited and getting ready to go back in 2010 and visit in tribute to my mother who I miss dearly.
I am so curious to know if Masco Hamlet's first wife was Elizabeth Smith, if Nina Smith was her sister.
Does that mean that Dewy Hamlet and Masco Hamlet married sisters?
Dewy Hamlet and Nina Smith Hamlet Hurbert Hamlet(raised the family), Royce a/k/a Herbert Hamlet, Daisy Hamlet(moved to Kentucky), Mable,Nell,&Finis Hamlet(moved to Michigan), Johnny(died at 16 in a car accident)and my mom Mary Hamlet(went to New York). That is where my sister and I are now. Life goes on. Our roots are fascinating. Any info please share. Nancy Coletto proud daughter of Mary Hamlet

Hello Laurie and Alison, I realised after I answered your query that we have been in contact before. So far I have no connection between the two branches but feel there must be one. There just isn't enough Hamlet's around for them not to be related. I have, just today, finally, managed to solve the Hamlet/Sharpe connection. Now it's onto the Seward/Seaward connection with earnest. Will keep in touch.

Cheers
Jen

Jen,
It is some time since (on behalf of my wife Alison nee Hamlet) we were researching Hamlet and particularly the ones with the Seaward name. At that time we were trying to find a relationship with the Combe Down Hamlet family of Alison's family. We were not successful in this. The male line Hamlet of our interest goes like this;
Edward Hamlet and Harriett, Bath baptism of JT Hamlet in 1837
John Thomas Hamlet (1837-1909) and Mercy Long (1841-1925)Combedown.
George Hamlet (1878-1950 New Zealand)and Edith Rose Nowell (1885-1962 NZ)Combedown
Frederick Charles Hamlet (1906-1976 NZ) and Myrine Ngawai Cross (1912 NZ-1977 NZ) Combedown.
The Nowell family was also from Combedown, both families had many stonemasons as an occupation.
The best news you can give us is proof of a connection with the above Seawards.
Thank you for your response.

Laurie and Alison Howell

Hi Jo,
My computer crashed and took every single thing. I need some real fast help honey. My mom (Mary Alice Hamlet Graham, daughter of Jettie Jo Crockett and Joe Thomas Hamlett) died this morning. At this point, I am hanging on to the fact that she was in a lot of pain and the good Lord took her out of that pain and into glory. I need the dates and places that her mom and dad were born and died and were married and also where she was born. I know the place she was married (down to the address) and I know that she died in my room at home and at peace this morning. This is apparently needed for the government red tape. Can you help? I sure hope so. God bless you. (as for me, the real hard grief hasn't set in yet because I am still to glad to see her out of that terrible pain of cancer. When it hits, I will go to pieces. She was my best friend. Right now I have things that need doing.)
Love Ya,
Mary Ann
