David this year in April.

Hello Mr. Dobrowner,
I would be VERY interested in seeing these letters, etc...
Annie Hammersley is my great-grandmother (married Herman Chichester). I am tracing family history, as well as looking for Revolutionary War participants in the family. Kind of late coming into both endeavours, though. Wish there were more I could offer at this point... maybe with some digging!!!

My direct email is cbkidwell@verizon.net

I would SO welcome hearing from you.

Regards,
Chris

Hello David,
I am Sharon Crisp from Cottage Grove. I was recently down to the Riddle Cemetery. I took pictures of the 2 stones there, Ernest and Alice's shared stone and AL Hammersley. Not sure how AL fits in the family, but I posted both markers on Find a Grave. I was surprised to see that there was not a marker for Elsie. My mom had told me that Elsie passed on from an aneurysm when 19. I remember going to see Aunt Alice and Uncle Ern many times while growing up. Your Aunt Edith was married to my moms brother David J. Aunt Alice was my moms mother's sister. So Dave and Edith were cousins. I have some pictures I could share. I had shared with your dad, Ray and Eileen several years back what pictures I had that I could identify, as well as some that I could not put a name to. They were pretty young at the time and could not help me there. I would love to share information, etc. on the Hammersleys. I remember Uncle Ern as being a very kind and gentle person. He and I corresponded for quite awhile after Aunt Alice passed on.
Thanks so much, Sharon

I did some follow up to make sure my facts were correct.
of the living siblings, Ray is living in Riddle, OR. Eileen is living in the Medford. OR area. and my dad, Hal is in Albany, OR. When I first signed into the web sight I was caught of gaurd. My older brother is Marvin W. Hammersley, so when I saw Re: Marvin Hammersley I had to see what it was about. I am so happy I have reconected with Grandpa's side of the family. My Mom is an only child, so the only first cousins I have are you guys. If/when you get to Vancouver, let me show you around.
David

I've been trying to relocate to Vancouver and applied to Bonneville Power Administration. Hopefully, I can live and work in Vancouver, a great place to be. My daughter, Yvette, lives in Redmond and works for Nintendo. She's a game tester so she's in her element. I've been up to the Seattle area several times to visit her and have enjoyed the whole drive thru Washington. What a beautiful state.
Paula

hello, David
It seems strange and wonderful to hear from someone from the distant past. Muriel was my mother who passed away June of 1990. There was a gathering of the Hammersley's for the funeral including Enid and Eileen so it was great to see them again. I visited Enid (Tiny) and her husband Ted on Whidbey Island about 2 years later with my daughter and husband (now ex). I've always tried to get back together with everyone but it seems a very hard to contact anyone with no phone numbers or addresses. If you've had more luck, I'd appreciate any info. Are you in Oregon?
Paula

Hi Marilyn,

These are certainly my ancestors. I am interested in some ancestors of the Hammersley family, the Cottons. Is it possible that Catehrine Cotton was the daughter of Humphrey Cotton of Bold? His wife, Anne Kinnersley, is a descendant of Edward I through her great-grandfather, Sir Robert Aston. Also, this might be of interest: http://www.happywarrior.org/abc/shop/products.php?p=1b2cf9

Tobias Parker

I should really like to know what happened to Elizabeth and if anyone knows anything about her.

Thanks.

Jane Sarles

I am searching for William H. Hammersley who married Elizabeth Ann Coulter in 1847 in Daviess County, Indiana. Elizabeth was from Washington County, Indiana, so I suspect a connection to the brothers who came to Washington County.

Please contact.

Jane Sarles
janesarles@insightbb.com

I am also descended from this line - interested in how you found Margaret Whittaker's surname. Did you find their marriage licence?

Just recently found a will for William Hammersley of Cheddleton dated 1645, who appears to be the father of Thomas H. He is imprisoned at the King's Bench Prison which I believe was in London. Civil war activity? Any thoughts?

Kevin Bowers

Hello Marilyn,

I am descended from John Homersley and his wife, Margaret nee Rowley, who were the parents of the first Thomas in your list. Thomas's son, William married Mary Sneyd, 15 June 1609 at Chester. Thomas 1612-84 was first of all a Baptist then became a Quaker; George Fox stayed with Thomas at his home in Leek. That Thomas was married three times.
Plenty more to discover!
Regards, Jeff
orfordperkins@btinternet.com

Hi

my name is Dr. Peter Swain and I am interested in Henry Hammersley. I think he first brought 'living pictures' to Bolton as a Fairground bioscope in 1897. I am from the University of Bolton and I am relaying this through my son's ancestry connection. Henry Hammersley is a very interesting person - would anyone have a photbgraph of him? You can e mail me direct at peter@swainsworld.co.uk or the University @ p.swain@bolton.ac.uk

Thanks

I'm replying to an old posting, but thought I'd toss in a comment. My files show that, yes, Carrie PERDUE [1890-1980] married Thomas George HAMMERSLEY [1885-1968], son of George Rainie HAMMERSLEY and Lovey Jane HARRIS, 3 Dec 1907 in Days Creek, Douglas Co., Oregon.___ And, that Carrie Cameron PHELPS, born 21 Feb 1860 in Wisconsin, dying in June 1936 in Oregon, married Riley Jacob HAMERSLEY [1860-1936]* on 5 Sep 1890 [V1: p.287] as his 2nd spouse, in New Pine Creek, Modoc Co., California (a community split between OR and CA);
he divorced her 3 Oct 1895.___ He married at least four times in all and divorced each of them, dying out-of-wedlock, it’s presumed, 18 Dec 1936 in the Talkeetna gold quadrangle of south-central Alaska. He had divorced his 4th spouse, Laura, 8 May 1913 .___ *[Riley was born in Martinsville, Clark Co., Indiana, son of George Rainey HAMERSLEY and Martha BRUGH; George was the son of James Riley HAMERSLEY and Catherine Matilda ‘Tillie’ OSBORNE.]
My wife and I have bought Ashe Grange in Surrey which was built in 1820 by William Spode, son of Josiah Spode. He changed his name to William Spode Hammersley and had, amongst others, a son Major-General Frederick Hammersely who established formal physical training in the Army and at Oxford. His son, also a Major-General, commanded a Division at Gallipoli in WW1. We are trying to trace the history of the house including any pictures or photographs of it in its early days.

I realize it is many years later, but I have some geneological information about my branch of the family tree if you are interested.
Enid died in 1995.
Ernest did not die in Coupeville, WA - that is where Enid is buried. Ernest died in Oregon - perhaps Medford?? He lived with my Aunt Margaret and Uncle Ray before he died.
At this point in time, Ray, Eileen and Hal are the only siblings left.

Hi Alice, I don't think your Fanny Hammersley is the same. There are no Fox's in the family - Fanny was an actress in 1890's and her first husband was shot in an accident. She then married my Great Grandfather and became a Warwick. Jane

hi Jane, I can't remember how I came to have this photo. I only have it on computer (not the original) so I guess it was emailed to me by our cousin Mal Campbell in Australia.
best wishes
Lynn
