I am a descendant of Samantha Hancock. She was adopted by a white family after her parent(s) was lost on the trail of tears. The problem is that I am having difficulties tracing her back to her birth-parents. Does anyone have any links or sites that can help with this problem? Are there any resources for people lost on the Trail of Tears? Any help would be appreciated

I am looking at your message from several years ago concerning Jonas William Hancock. His second wife was Edith Mabel Lynn Dobbin, widow of my great grandfather Horatio Archibald Dobbin.
One of Jonas's sons married Edith's widowed daughter-in-law, Cordelia (widow of Earl Horatio Dobbin)- thus Edith and Cordy remained mother-in-law/daugher-in-law. Cordy had a small daughter, Earlene Dobbin. Cordy and her new husband had two more children, Perdille and John. Earlene, Perdille and John are all still living as of May 2012. If you need additional information I have it; or this might be dated data. Hope this is helpful.

HANCOCK and CLARK marriage 1800 Cambs UK

The (CD extract) register of All Saints Parish, Fulbourn, Cambridgeshire, shows the marriage of William CLARK and Mary HANCOCK on Sep 15, 1800, and later shows various baptisms for their children.

Does anyone have any detail regarding the PARENTS of Mary HANCOCK and/or William CLARK. Based on Census and Burial records, my guess is that William was b.abt 1776 and Mary abt. 1780, but it seems, not in Fulbourn.

The only clues I have for Mary HANCOCK is that William CLARK was a witness to a SARAH Hancock marriage 1 Oct, 1799 - I guess a sister of Mary.

Any help would be appreciated.
William Hancock is an extremely common name. I have one in my tree that could have been born in 1763. My ancestor Robert H. Hancock, Sr. was born in Worcester County, Maryland in 1774. He had two siblings born prior to him, but I don't even have a year. All 11 children were born in Worcester County. I just know the two were prior to 1774 because of a will of the father William Hancock which listed the children in birth order.

If this is the one you are looking for, William, Sr. (1745-1804) was married to Elizabeth Agnifield (unknown dates). His father was Daniel Hancock, Jr (1723-?) and his mother was Tabitha ? (no dates). Daniel's parents were Daniel Hancock, Sr. (prior to 1702-?) and an unknown mother. Daniel, Sr. father was an unknown but I know was born in England. Daniel, Sr. and his brother, William (prior to 1702-?) came to the colonies sometime after 1702, but their father and mother did not come.

See if this helps.

Jim Whitehouse

Looking for leads on parents for this William Hancock born about 1763 in VA and died 1839 in Floyd Co IN. There are many who incorrectly have his parents as John D Hancock/Eliz Maddox. DNA, Census and land records prove he can not be their son.

It appears he may have had a brother, Charles Hancock living very near him in Jefferson Co KY in 1810-20 Census.
Also a Simon Hancock and a Robert Hancock nearby in the next County 1810-20 Henry Co KY.

Looking for ideas?? Thanks.

I'm trying to find William's father. He was born around 1780-1799in South Carolina. He moved to Houston, Georgia prior to his death in 1849-1850. He married a Martha ?, born in South Carolina and had children Nancy Hancock (1830) that married Irby Nesbit, Elizabeth Hancock (1840)that married a James Perry Campbell and William Thomas Hancock (1836). My William is in the 1840 Census age 40-50, Houston Co. Georgia Josiah J. is living a few doors away age 50-60. Also a few doors away Josiah age 70-80. This is why I believe William Hancock is a son of the older Josiah. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I look forward to hearing fromm you.

I am researching the HANCOCK family who lived in Winchester,Hampshire in the mid 1800's. I am particularily interested in William Hancock born around 1822 in Steeple Ashton, Wiltshire. William was a carpenter and eventually the landlord of the Gladstone Arms in Winchester. William was married three times i believe, and had 6 daughters, the first 4 dying before the age of 18. I can share any information. Thank you in advance-Roy.

Hi Graham just read your reply to Catherine. I don't know of any of our Hancocks who went to US. 2 of the children of Robert Thomas Hancock went to Aus in the 1920s - 30s.
I did send an e-mail last night so I hope to hear from you directly from now on. Then I will fill you in with what I know and how I fit in.
Regards
Janet

Hi, Thanks for the reply. I have been looking into the family quite a bit recently and also got back as far as John Hancock on the 1841 census living in Carshalton, though he seems to be living with a woman called Jane, who I took to be his wife. I haven't got as far as loking at the parish records yet.
By complete coincidence we live about a mile from Carshalton now.
As well as Clare , there is also her sister Karen, her aunt Heather, and her gran Margaret who is 91. I can't quite work out which bit of the family you come from?
If you want to contact direct, my email is grahambroad@blueyonder.co.uk

Cheers, Graham
Hi - yes this the same family. My grandfather was Robert Thomas Hancock son of Robert Collis Hancock. Thus Claire's forebearer George Montague H and RTH were brothers. RTH died in 1924. We live in the south midlands in the UK. Where are you based? Robert Hancock (the original one was born in Carshalton c. 1826. He was the son of John Hancock and Rachel Riggles. So far I have got no further back than John. He was a widower when he married Rachel. Look forward to hearing more from you Regards

Hi, I'm writing this on behalf of my wife Clare, as I'm the one with an interest and experience in genealogy, though she is the one related to you.
She was born Clare Hancock, and is the g g g granddaughter of the Robert Hancock you mention, so the 2 of you could be third cousins twice removed.
Her grandfather was Thomas George Hancock, b.1916, son of George Montague Hancock, b.1892, son of Robert Collis Hancock, b.1860, who was the son of Robert Hancock that you mention.
I've done some work in researching her family but would be really interested in hearing what you know about the ancestry.
Yours, Graham Broad

Yes Southern Indiana Hancock's are certainly a confusing mix. My gr gr gr grandfather - William Hancock born about 1764 and married Sarah Harding in Shenandoah Co Va in 1785 with a John Hancock also signing his marriage bond. This William Hancock moved from Shenandoah Co VA, to Jefferson Co KY then to Floyd Co IN in 1828. His many children lived in Floyd, Clark, Harrison and later Jackson Coounties in Indiana. Records show, most Hancock's married in Shenandoah Co VA were the son or daughter of a John Hancock.

All for now... Mr. Gail L Hancock

My Hancocks came from St Agnes, Cornwall, Eng.
I have only worked back to Joseph Hancock & Louisa Martin both b. abt 1805.
Their children - Joseph,James,Thomas,Richard,Jane,Elizabeth,Prudence,Louisa and John.
I find Jane, Louisa and John along with their families in Butte around 1890.
Jane married Elisha Roberts and died in Butte 1898.
Louisa married Richard Harvey and died in Butte 1930.
John married Ellen Carne and died in Butte 1919.
The names you mentioned do not ring a bell with me but there were others from this Hancock family I do not have a lot of information on.
Your Edith Eastope Hancock, You did not mention her husbands name? Posting his name and their approx. birth dates may help you further.
I do not know if my Hancocks are related to the "John Hancock, signer of the declaration of independence". I assume that is who you are referring to when you mention you are related to John Hancock? I have not dug back that far to find out.
Good Luck in your search!
I keep running into a lot of Hiram Hancock in Kentucky but I cannot find a link of mine to theirs.
