Joseph,

I am the great great grandson of Thomas Hanes who later became Thomas Haines when he moved to Philadelphia. His mother, Martha, visited Philadelphia from Richmond in1880 which gave me the necessary proof of this ancestorial relation with you.

I would be very interested to learn more about the family from Virginia and Ohio.

Thanks for posting.

Tom Haines

Oregon and Phoebe were my paternal great-grandparents. I have a lot of genealogical info for that side of the family. My mother paid a professional genealogist to research the family back in the 1970s when it was not as easy as it is today. I have found a few mistakes and wrong assumptions in her work, but she compiled a lot of good information. Feel free to contact me for whatever info you need.

Dianne,

We are related through William John Hanes and Sarah Robbins and their daughter, Myrtle May. William John, known as John, died 17 June 1905 after a well collapsed at the Bridge Hotel in Wagga Wagga:

http://trees.ancestry.com.au/tree/12056068/person/234392159/...

I know his parents were John Hanes and Mary (don't know her maiden name) and I am interested in learning where they came from etc. I'm also wondering if there is any connection to a William Hanes who was transported on the Royal Admiral to Sydney in 1792.

Happy to share whatever information we have.

Cheers,

Joe

I found her on the 1850 census, it's possbile they had more children but that is all I could find on th 1850 census forward. My husband descends from Peters brother Benjamin so I haven't done much on Peter beyond trying to find him in the census. Do you have parents for Peter? I have that his father may be a Thomas Hanes?

You show a Nancy Hanes b 1814, with the same parents that my ggreat grandmother had...Peter and Nancy Bibb Hanes. Just thought it was strange you did not show Mary Malinda nor Minor Bibb Hanes as children. Just a coincidence that there were two Peter and Nancy Bibb Hanes with different children names.

I'm confused here. My ggreat grandmother was Mary Malinda Hanes, dau of Peter and Nancy Bibb Hanes. She was b 31 Dec 1814, in VA d 25 Apr 1899 in MO. Her brother was Minor Bibb Hanes, she also had a son named Minor Bibb and my Grandfather was also carried the middle name of Bibb. This information was from the family BIBLE. Strange that there was TWO Hanes girls born in VA same date and had the same parents.

HANES Floyd

I am looking for my grandfather. I never got to meet him and I don't know if he's dead or alive. Last I heard, my dad was sure he lived in Mustang, Oklahoma but that was when I was in JR High school (about 8 years ago). He married Elinor Hammond and had 2 sons, Forrest and Marshall. Does anyone have any information about him or his whereabouts?? I would appreciate any assistance. I just signed on to this site today.

Philemon Friday Rexstrew Hanes

Looking for the names of Philemon's parent's. The 1910 census for Kansas listed him as Rexstrew Philemon age 2 grandson of William Delone Hanes and Mary Catherine . I always thought these were my grandparents but they were great grand parents. My father was Philemon Hanes ,he took their last name for the rest of his life.He always called them his mother and father. When I started with Ancestry I found all of this out. It's stated his mother was a Rexstrew & father from Ohio He was born Nov 20 1907 Pittsberg Kansas..why did his grandparent's raise and who were his real parent's names and what happened to them
__

HANES from Frederick County MD

I am looking for anyone who many have any knowledge of any HANES family from Frederick County, Maryland around the late 18th-century to early 19th-century. There was a woman from this region named Mary Naomi Hanes who came to the early days of the Old Northwest Territory of Indiana that married my 2nd Great Grandfather Nicholas Friend.

Mary Haines married Nicholas Friend on 1822-07-18.
(Book ZZ ; Page 185)
(Source: Wayne County Indiana Government, Marriage Index, http://www.co.wayne.in.us/marriage/retrieve.cgi)

Of course, the twist of this marriage was that Mary Naomi had a child before she married Nicholas. His name was David Hanes. I was told that David was spoken to in German until the age of 10, just about the time his mother married Nicholas Friend. However, some few month later (October) another child was born and he was called Harvey Friend. After Harvey's birth, Mary Naomi (Hanes) Friend was deceased from Nicholas' life. David was about 12 years of age for his was given to his Aunt and Uncle David and Elizabeth (Hanes) Cook.

It is uncertain as to why she left Frederick County Maryland after David's birth and went West. She probably went with the Cook Family, since her sister got married and was heading West.

I would like to know if any one have found any information about this Hanes Family from Frederick County of German Descents.

I would love to hear from you.

Matt Friend

Frederick Haynes Haines in Louisiana

Yes, I am still looking for my great grandfather's family. He lived in Louisiana or Arkansas for at least 10 years in the 1890's, during which time he was married to my great grandmother Mary Elizabeth Cassell. They had 3, maybe 4 children before the 1900 census, where my great grandmother lists herself as a widow. I have found several Frederick Haynes, but can't be sure which one is right. The children's names are Monk, Dave, Lucie, and Dewey. Dewey is on the 1910 census with his mother, but the others just disappeared until my grandmother, Lucie, was married to my grandfather Wilks McElwee. Help, please. This just can't be the end of the road for Haynes.

Hi, I am another Hanes relative in Georgia. My ggg grandmother was Elizabeth Lassiter who married David Hanes in Fayette Co., GA in 1823. They had a daughter, Elizabeth born in 1829 who married Seaborn S. Smith....they are my great, great grandparents. My quest is to prove that my Elizabeth is the daughter of Elizabeth and David Hanes. She got married in 1845 so is not on the census with her brothers, Joshua J., Elisha L., and William C. Joshua and William C. were Confederate Soldiers. I am a member of the UDC in Georgia and would like to get my supplemental certificates on these boys. I can't find a will on David Hanes who died in Irwin Co., GA in 1866. His wife, Eliz. died in Fayette Co., GA in 1845. No will there either. Can anyone offer any help in my quest for proof I can use that is documented? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Diane Starr Jones
bobanddiane@numail.org

J.W. and Nannie Haynes in Miss. 1900

My grandmother was Lucille Haynes McElwee, born 8/30/1896. On her application for a marriage license to my grandfather, Wilks McElwee, she lists as her parents as J.W. and Nannie Haynes. Her actual parents were Mary Elizabeth and Fred Haines. She also states that she was born in Mississippi. I believe that she was raised by a relative after her father died about 1900. She had 2 brothers, Dave and Monk Haines, born prior to their father's death that were never heard of again. A third brother, Dewey, was raised by their birth mother, Mary Elizabeth Cassell Haines, and died at the age of 23. Mary went on to marry Bernard C. Brady in 1901. Last names used were Hanes, Haines, and Haynes. If anyone has any information about my relatives, I can be reached at jdavid1119@charter.net, and I do check this message board.

Dave, Monk, and Lucille Haines, Lamourie, LA in 1900 census

Lucille Haynes was my grandmother. She was born in 1896 either in Mississippi or Louisiana. Her parents were Mary Cassell and Frederick Haines(died 1899 or 1900).In the 1900 census her mother is listed as Maurie Haynes(widow) and the children listed are Dave,Monk and Dewey Haynes. No mention whatever of my grandmother, born the same year as Monk. They were living in Lamourie,LA.The only child that shows up on subsequent census is Dewey, who was killed at age 23.He continued to live with Mary after her marriage to Bernard C. Brady of Rapides parish, LA.The first document with my grandmother,Lucille Maude Haynes,is her application for her marriage license where she lists her parents as J.W.(dead)and Nannie Haynes. She married Wilks Gordon McElwee and they lived in Lecompte, LA for at least 50 years. If anyone has any information please contact me at jdavid1119@charter.net
