HANSELLS in PHILA.

My ggggrandmother was Rachel HANSELL. There were 2 of them born in Phila. about 2 years apart. One married a Lentz. My Rachel married William J. CHILDS. His mother was Elizabeth (KITE), and his father was John CHILDS. They lived in BLOCKLEY/HAMILTON VILLAGE IN 1800. William's sister Eliza married a SUPPLEE. His sister Mary married a WRIGHT. William and Rachel (HANSELL) CHILDS lost sons named Jesse and George CHILDS. They had John who married Priscilla CARSON, William who married Amanda ULLMAN, Margaret (CHILDS) LUTHER, Jacob who married Malara MILLER, Sarah (CHILDS) VERBEEK and Louis who married Josephine MOWER. Around the 1870s, this branch of CHILDS moved to the MANAYUNK/EAST FALLS area. They worked in the woolen mills and on the railroad. Any family out there?

Have you seen a burial marker for Joseph M Hansell in Rancocas... He was the brother of James S and apparently died in his home. However.... Joseph's wife Kate... when she died she was buried in the Willing family plot in Seaford, DE... Joseph might have ended up there.

Hello Derek

Thank you for your email.

I hae been researching the Hansell family for many years and through various contacts my husbands Hansell line begin in Lythe, North Yorks. I have through a Michael Hansell in Whitby established a mass of information.

The Ann Hansell you refer to does not readily fit in my Hansell information. However that is not to say she is not there. I will therefore send your request to Michael in Whitby. We do have an Anne Hansell born 1773 daughter of Robert Hansell and Ann Rogers.

Forgive me if I don't get back to you until after Christmas

Lorna Hansell

Hi Bob, seems we have an ancestor in common. John Hansell was born in Petworth, Sussex on 14.7.1811. Charlotte Covey was born circa 1810 in Wisborough Green, Sussex. They married on 8.9.1830 in wisborough Green in the presence of Frances Covey and Joseph Wells. They had 5 other children (may be more but I have these recorded) Fanny born C. 1831, Robert born C. 1833, Jane born C. 1835, John born C. 1838 and Edward (my ancestor) born 1840. I believe John Hansell's parents were John Hansell and Frances Moor - Married 5.11.1805 in Petworth, Sussex. I have recently been contacted by another member who has further information on this couple. I would be happy to post this information once I have received it.

Regards
Debbie

Hansells

Early on there seems to be 2 Hansell families that came to America through Pennsylvania. It appears that one stayed in and around Philadelphia and the other moved on to the Ohio and Indiana area. Since then they have dispersed. Also early on, there seems to be Hansells in Virginia during the Revolutionary War, some in New York, Boston, and Canada as well. One researcher indicates that Hansells may have originated in France and moved into Holland and England and stayed there a while before coming to America.

So where does your Hansell family come from? At this moment you haven't supplied enough information to tell. If you can trace your Hansell family back a few generations and provide us with names and dates we might be able to help. There are quite a few Hansell researchers out here that are willing to help.

HANSELL of the Philadelphia area

I'm looking for information on the Hansell family of the Philadelphia area. In particular I'm intrested in the George Hansell family that lived in Blockley Township. I believe George's parents to be Peter David Hansell 1724-1786 and Anna Dorothy Hencht 1732-1812. George 1760-1819 married Deborah Suplee in 1783. They had 12 children: Esther, Ann, Sarah, Mary, Charles, Jesse, Elizabeth, Norris, Algermon, Deborah, George, and John. My family descends from Esther ?-1821 who married Joseph Dean in 1819. Information on any of the Hansells is of help.
We are both descended from Richard & Catherine(ne Audas)Hansell of Lythe. Your William was the last child .
I do not know if the other Michael gave you the info he had - ie letters to Williams elder brother Thomas in 1850's. I am pleased to find the maiden name of Ann Fuller Hansell - she remarried after Williams death.
I know what happened to all their children except your William John .
