I saw your post dated in 2001. I realize it's been a few years since your post but I thought I would respond anyway and hope for the best. I just started researching my family tree and my Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather was Andrew Hanselman. His son was Jacob Micah Hanselman. Jacob's daughter Veronica is my Great Grandmother. If you have any information, please email me back. Thank you!

General Samuel Peter Heintzelman was born in Rapho Twp., near Manheim, Lancaster County, PA. His parents were Peter Heintzelman (1768-1824) Anna Elizabeth Grubb. Peter Heintzelman in turn was the son of Hieronymus (pronounced Jerome) Heintzelman (1730-1796) and Catharina Elizabeth Wagner (1741-1821). Jerome was born in Augsburg, Bavaria (now Bayern, Germany) and he came to America as a Lieutenant in the "Royal Americans", a special German rifleman unit serving the English Crown protecting the colonies before the Revolutionary War. I have yet to determine exactly Jerome's parentage in Germany.

Hanselman Family in Ohio

Hi, My name is Margaret Hans and I am searching for the Hanselman family in Ohio (Canton & Cleveland). The origninal Hanselman (in my family) who emigrated to the US, was John Hanselman, who settled in Cleveland, Ohio. He was born in 1851, and came to the US in 1869, at the age of 18 years old. He married Augusta Priebe in 1874. They had a daughter, Lydia, and a son, John R. John R. changed his surname from Hanselman to Hans. John R. married a woman named Mary--her maiden name was Neeinty. John R. and Mary had 4 sons: Clarence ("Jack"), Roy, Paul, and Don. John & Mary raised the 4 boys in Canton, Ohio. Clarence ("Jack") married Muriel Genevieve Dewey from Tecumseh, Michigan and they settled in Detroit, Michigan. Clarence and Muriel had one son, David. Clarence was a Detroit Police Office, shot & killed in 1928 in the line of duty. I haven't been able to find any information earlier than John Hanselman and Augusta Priebe, but would appreciate hearing from anybody who may have information on this family. Thank you.
Margaret
margaret_hans@msn.com

Hi,
I am looking for information on the Hanselman family of Cleveland Ohio. John Hanselman emigrated from Weurtemburg, Germany in the 1860;sm and married Augusta Priebe, also from Germany. They had 3 children, Anna, John R., and Lydia. John R. shortened the family name to "Hans". He married and settled in Canton, Ohio with wife, Mary, and raised 4 sons: Roy, Paul, Clarence, and Don. These boys were born in the early 1900's.
Good Evening Melissa, It was good to hear back from you. I have quite a bit of additional information on the Hanselman family. It would be interesting to trade notes. My wife & I had planned to go to Germany the 3rd week of May last year for a 700 year family reunion, but my father was killing on May 1, 2003. My folks have a 2 story house with a tile roof, and he was patching a small leak. When he went to get on the ladder, he slipped, and fell 2 stories, landing on the back of his head. He shattered his skull and was killed instantly. We ended up having to stay in Orlando as a result. If you would like, feel free to contact me via phone. My home number is (407) 895-7316. My wife & I are usually in bed by 9:00pm on the week nights. Feel free to contact me. It would be interesting to see what you might know about the family that I haven't been able to find out. Have a great evening.

Jake & Carolyn Hanselman

You have 1781 as Andreas Rau's year of birth when in fact that was the year he married his first wife, Betsy Sell. He was born in 1764 (1761 by some records), and Betsy died ca. 1789 after giving birth to four children. He then hurriedly married Elizabeth Barbara Heintzelman in 1790. She was born in 1770 and gave birth to 13 children before dying ca. 1815. Andrew then married Margaret Schuster in 1816 and she gave birth to three children before Andreas died in 1821 of cancer of the face for which he suffered for 20 years according to his obituary. He and Margaret are buried at the St. Clair Cemetery in Greensburg, PA. with a Revolutionary Patriot's monument which was placed there by our "Rau Haus" family organization in 1988. (Organization is no longer functioning.)

I am descended from Andreas and Betsy's third son, Andrew, born in 1785 in Northampton Co, PA. That portion later became Lehigh County.

I wrote the book, "The Marriage of Catherine and David" from which some info appears to be quoted. It is available for reference at the Westmoreland Historical Society in Greensburg, PA.

Here is a bit of info that may be helpful:
Hans George Heintzelman of Germany emigrated to America on the ship, Eastern Branch, James Nevin, Captain, which arrived at Philadelphia on 3 Oct 1753. In 1759 his name appears in the tax list of Douglas Twp, Berks Co. PA. He later settled in Lynn Twp, Northampton Co about 1766. George and Catherine became the parents of Elizabeth Barbara on 5 Oct 1770. She was baptized at the Heidelbert Union Church on 9 Nov 1770. His last will of record at Easton, PA dated 24 Aug 1794 divides his estate among his eight children: Mrs. Dennis Rex, Johann Diter, Andrew, Johan George, Mrs. Adam Thomas, Mrs. Daniel Ehroh, Mrs. Anthony Bock and Mrs. Andreas Rau. Some of these children and their descendants were members of the Lutheran congregation of the Ebenezer Church at New Tripoli where they are buried. Elizabeth Rau is buried in Westmoreland Co.
(Greensburg) PA.
