I know i'm years late, but i've just found out my grandads parents names, they were Elise Hansen and ingvald gjentoft Jakobsen. My grandad was born in 1919 so there is a possibility that the Elise you mention is his mum. As far as i know my grandad was from Haugesund, not sure were Elise was originally from but as far as i know she had 4 children, Lars, Jakob, Johan and another. She died after she was badly burnt by the oven apparently she just gave in as the burns were quite severe

Re: greatgrandparents in Gelsted Denmark

The Danish parish records are available online (free) at http://www.sa.dk/ao/ You have to browse, but they have images of the census and parish records for most of Denmark from the 1700s through the mid 1900s. For a map of the parishes as they were in the late 1800s go to http://www.ddd.dda.dk/ddd_en.htm Click on 'Censuses' and then on 'Map of the Counties' which brings up a map showing the Amts or counties, click on one of the Amts and it will bring up a map of the parishes within that Amt. The DDD (Dansk Demografisk Database) is a database that has census records for most of Denmark - but it is far from complete and subject to the usual transcription errors. ( I really recommend using wildcards when searching those records. The spelling of names could be quite 'fluid' in the records too) The DDD also has emigration records from abt 1869 to 1908.

To give you an idea of what the parish records look like I've attached a copy of Emanuel Kristian Hansen's birth/baptism record from Gelsted. He's # 7

J Murphy

His brother (only one) was named william Howard Hansen, my biological grandfather.
Howard married Clara Louise Lutz and had a daughter & two sons. His daughter (Susan Clair) is my bilogical mother. (I am adopted now, although Susan and I have met each other in person).

I know nothing about the Wise family, but can give you some info on the Hansen. Hans arrived in the US with his sister Minna in 1908. Their father was named Wilhelm Hansen of Flensburg, Germany. I only know that their mothers maiden last name was Jessen, according to Hans's death records.
I am still researching this side of the family.

I am looking for my great grandfather's Danish/German roots. He was born on 14 Dec 1853 in Schleswig-Holstein to Albert Hansen and Marie Petersen. (I have a picture of them and on the back it shows Elmshorn). Hans immigrated from Hamburg on 4 May 1872 on SS Vandalia and arrived in New York on 20 May 1872. His brother Carsten Hansen was born 11 Jan 1840. He was a blacksmith and was granted emigration in 1869. I believe their religion was Lutheran. Any information on where in Schleswig-Holstein Hans and Carsten were from, the church they attended, any info would be appreciated! My immediate goal would be to get some sort of birth record.... Thank you!

Richard Henry Hansen

I’m looking for information about my grandfather and great grandfather. My grandfather’s name was Richard Henry Hansen and he was born in 1936 and died in 1991. I cannot find any information about his father’s name, but his mother’s name was Ella M Harder. Both Richard and his father probably lived in Illinois. Any relatives out there or people with knowledge about Richard Henry Hansen?
