Never heard of him.

This sounds like the common family myth amongst Hanson families about being related to John Hanson, the President of the first Continental Congress, and thought by some to be the actual first President of the US. John Hanson was real, but every Hanson I've ever known has heard that they were related to him, including my own. It turns out my branch of the Hansons were Swedes who arrived in the US from Finland in the 1890s, and thanks to the Scandinavian patronymic naming conventions, it's unlikely that we're related in any way.

BTW - John Hanson's burial place has been lost to history.

Pete Hanson (yes, that's my name)
John William Hanson

I am trying to find out where John William Hanson was born. According to the marriage certificate he was married on the 20th October 1890 in Tynemouth, Northumberland. His occupation then was Soldier and he married a Belinda Fry Craig. His father was a James Hanson(deceased) and his occupation was "engine driver". In the 1891 census John William is now a dock policeman and is still living in Tynemouth. In 1899 he died and Belinda never remarried or moved out of the area with the children. In the census of 1891 he put down he was born in Tynemouth and birth year 1864. I cannot find his birth date registered anywhere - can anybody help?

My great-aunt Ruth Andrews Fairchild wrote in her son's baby book that we are related to a Peter Hanson, who, as she wrote was "head of the Confederate States" and is buried in Washington, DC. I've tried googling him, but come up with nothing. Anybody ever heard of this man? Thanks!

Check out my new genealogy-themed historical fantasy novel:
www.facebook.com/katieandrewspotter
www.goinoverhome.blogspot.com

Frank,

I just ran across your message. I am a descendant of a David Henson who also spelled his name Hanson and Hinson. He was born in Washington or Russell County, VA in about 1830, and moved to Kentucky in the early 1850s. I have been trying to tie him in to the Hansonville Hansons for years but have been unable to do so. There are plenty of David Hansons but the ages do not quite line up. If you have any thought or comments on this, I would be delighted to hear them.

Grant Henson

Myrtle Josephine Hanson Shaw

Hello,

I am researching my great-grandmother Myrtle Josephine Hanson Shaw born on 15 Dec, in between 1910-1912 (the year is in dispute and apparently, she had troubles with SSA later in life). She passed on 9 Sept, 1979 in Minneapolis, MN as a result of violence. Her husband, Albertus Eugene Shaw (married 31 Aug, 1929) had already passed.

Based upon early school records, it appears she lived in Glendorado, Benton County. Her fathers name was either Thomas, John or George, we are unsure which is correct. I assume she was born in the area, but do not know for sure.

I have a copy of death certificate, but do not have a birth certificate and think this may help confirm name of father and/or other information. We believe she was an only child, which seems to complicate things.

As note, early school record and death certificate have different father name. We do not know mother name either.

I’m not sure what else to do to track down some information to continue to research the line. Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Thank you.

This post is pretty old, so I hope you are still using Ancestry. My great great grandfather, Carl Olof Hansson was also from Landskrona, Malmo, Sweden. He immigrated to NY around 1888. He changed his name to Charles Hanson in the U.S.

Hi Kristy I believe we must be related. I am probably the unknown grand daughter of Edith Paulina Valpina Ayres who I believe was born around 1921 probably your Grandfathers sister. I am hoping you check on this message board from time to time. Did your Hanson grandfather live at Raglan and work at the Horo Freezing Works for well over a decade. My mother was born in 1946 and is coming up to 66 years old. Mums father was probably her brother in law. Please get back to me as i would really appreciate hearing anything. My email too is kimmy.71@gmx.com.

Hello was reading your post,
I am related to the Hanson, the info you're looking for is as following.....
Nathan Parents were Daniel 1718-1775 and Mary (Bickford)1718-1774 Hanson... Daniel parents were John 1681-1727 and Elizabeth (Meader)1682-1737 * Elizabeth and 4 of her children were taken captive by the Indians in 1724 2 of their other children were scalped in front of her before the Indian took her captive, John paid ransom to get all released except Sarah, she was kept by and Squaw for a future wife for her son, John died on his way back to try and pay more ransom to get Sarah's release, it was in records the Sarah married a Frenchman to get away from marrying the squaws son. The book that is out is an actual journal that Elizabeth kept titled "AN ACCOUNT OF THE
CAPTIVITY OF ELIZABETH HANSON"....
If you need anymore info let me know I have mine done all the way to De Rastrick born abt 1200.

Hello, My name is Nadine Hanson-Olson. I came across this post and am so excited. Maybe you can help me.
I am looking for my grandfathers family. His name was Olaf Hanson, he was born in Lake Preston South Dakota in about 1889. We do not know much about his family as his parents and siblings died in a carbon monoxide accident, my grandfather was the only survivor. He never talked much about his family. The name Stencerud is what I have been told his parents name was from Norway. I have been searching for about 5 years for information. I do not have any more information, he did marry and have a son but his wife died, my grandma Mary Rowe married him. Unfortunatly I became interested in this after she passed. She claimed tho that he didn't want to talk about it. I hope you know something. Thank you...Nadine

Evelyn Hanson b. abt 1915

I am looking for Evelyn Hanson b, about 1915 (could be 1913, 1914, 1916, etc). According to the 1930 Census, Evelyn Hanson is a boarder, age 15, born in Wisconsin and her parents were born in Sweden. She is living with my ancestors, Victor and Eunice Johnson, in Swanville Township, Morrison Co, MN.

I have not been able to find an Evelyn Hanson in the 1920 Census, b, abt 1915 in Wis, parents born in Sweden. I've tried different variables, but I haven't come up with a likely prospect for the Evelyn I am searching for.

The rest of the information I have is that Evelyn Hanson was in an orphanage and brought to live with the Johnsons as basically a foster child, she was not adopted. The recollection is that she lived with the family from about 1926 until she graduated high school, around 1932 (should be Upsala, Mn High School, although there was a one-room school that the Johnson children attended).

Recollections indicate Evelyn moved to the city (presumably Minneapolis) soon after graduation, where she had opportunities to work as a domestic (not sure that's what she actually did, or if that was just the likely possibility based on the limited opportunities for women at that time). Eunice and Evelyn did correspond after Evelyn left the Johnson farm, but Eunice Johnson eventually lost contact with Evelyn Hanson. Unfortunately that correspondence from Evelyn seems to have been lost (along with other precious letters).

More recollections indicate Evelyn had siblings and they may have ended up in the Minneapolis area, too. Recollections also seem to be that Evelyn ended up "out West", maybe the Pacific Northwest. The impression is she married, but not necessarily in Minnesota.

The impression is it may have been that Evelyn's mother died and her father was unable to care for the children which is why Evelyn, and possibly her siblings, ended up in an orphanage. I don't know which orphanage. The thinking is that the Hanson family was likely living in Wisconsin and the closest orphanage was in Minnesota.

So, I have a lot of suppositions and recollections but very few facts, but Evelyn Hanson b. abt 1915 did live with Victor and Eunice Johnson on a farm in Swanville Township, Morrison Co, MN. Evelyn was part of the family. Everything I've been able to find out about Eunice and Victor Johnson is that they were good people. (I can't say that about all my ancestors. I have a few ancestors who had "questionable" parenting skills.)

Victor Johnson was a farmer, raised turkeys among other things. Eunice was a teacher (I don't think she taught after she married), she played organ at church (Gethsemane Lutheran in Upsala, MN), she was very musical and she had the genealogy bug. Also, from stories I've heard, Eunice was the ultimate alpha mother, the lioness, you do not mess with her cubs. I hope that included Evelyn.

My family would love to know how Evelyn Hanson's life turned out. Hey, it would be awesome if she is still alive and kicking at 97 (or so)!!! I would appreciate any pieces of information.

Obit for Mrs. Willard (Anna Wachter) Hanson 1872 - 1907

From Mayville (Wisconsin) newspaper dated Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1908

Mrs. Anna Hanson, beloved wife of Willard Hanson, died at her home in Lomira after an illness of six week's duration Dec. 30th, 1907. Mrs. Hanson was taken sick six weeks ago with pneumonia, and was on the road to recovery, when she was suddenly stricken with inflammation of the kidneys, and after suffering greatly, she was relieved from all earthly cares, pains and troubles, and taken to that land, where all these are unknown.
Mrs. Anna Hanson, nee Waechter, was born at Lomira Feb. 7, 1872, thus attaining the age of 35 years, 10 months and 13 days. Feb. 9th, 1893 she was united in marriage to Willard Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. Y. Hanson of this city. This union was blest with one child, which preceded the mother in death. Besides her husband, she leaves three brothers and two sisters to mourn her loss.
From the pain of present parting is born the hope of a future meeting. Her many acts of kindness as wife, sister, neighbor and friend are embalmed as cherished memories that may serve us here as symbols of the promised immortality that awaits her over there.
"Pure in her living, in thought and in fame,
Blessed be her memory, sacred her name."
The funeral was held the following Thursday, Rev. Wolters officiating.

My Upton relatives came from Salem Massachusetts. In my mother's letters, I found a 21 Aug 1906 postcard address to Miss Mable Hanson. My mother probably kept the card because it pictures the Upton Pharmacy at 310 Essex, the Salem Witch House, which her grandfather Jesse Upton ran. I was trying to see if Mable was any relation to me. In addition, I would be happy to give any of Mable's relatives a copy of the card. The 1906 Salem City Directory has a Miss Mable Hanson living at 52 Endicott with Widow Isabel Hanson and machinist James Hanson.

You can have a look at my tree under Norton Family Tree. He was my great great Grandfather on my Mother's side of the family. Actually looking at the date of your post you have probably found out the information you require.

REgards

Sylvia Norton

I just ran across these messages. I think I am related. My Great Grandmother was Wilomina (Not sure of the spelling) Parsch. My grandfather was August Parsh, her first son. Do you know anything about them? Especially August. He is my "mystery man" He disappears until he married my grandmother about 1870. Thank you.

Yes that is the first one I found which mentioned him and lead me to his ancestors. It appears to be a very detailed site and well sourced. I have been using it as my pointer site. I actually have found more information about about his descendants. Thank goodness it has his son Israel as I found many references to Israel and could only determine what Israel they were talking about (and it was usually his son), by knowing there were two Isreals (plus ofcourse the time frame involved.)

Thank you again! :)

Have you seen this site?
http://home.earthlink.net/~hansonmaltby/hanson_newhampshire_...

Very detailed but I cannot speak to the accuracy as I've just found it.
