Isabella Hardie the Daughter of Alexander Hardie

Isabella was born July 19 1770, in Lilliesleaf Roxburgh Scotland, to Alexander Hardie and Isabella Haig, and the Christening was in Maxton.
In 1806 she married James Edmeston in Kelso Roxburgh, and the registration states as her being a widow, but I can't find a previous marriage.
Has anyone seen a previous marriage

I came upon your inquiry by accident to-day. I may know your father, his previous wife was a good friend of mine in Toronto - and I attended their wedding. Keith is the one I know - he has sons. Keith and Jane lived in Colorado I remember. We often wondered where Keith was. A photo would help identify him to me - afer which I could forward more information.

After seeing your notice I contacted Keith's sons' step father (their mother has also died).

If your father is the Keith we know - his sons are around 46 and 44 years old. One lives in the USA and the other in Canada.

If I can be of any assistance, I am happy to help.

Hi & thanks for responding.
I am not certain where I got that information, I believe it came from others researching this line.
What I have for certain is my gggf John Hardie (?19/2/1815), ? Kilmarnock.
He married Helen Donaldson 20/6/1836 in Kilmarnock. (Certified in RCA Army records)
John becomes a Corporal of G Troop 9th Lancers serving in India and dies at Goojerat in 1849. His two sons are returned to England and go to Royal Chelsea Asylum to be educated.
John & Helen have five children in India.

If this ties in with any of your information, I would be delighted.

Hi,

Just wondering where you got that marriage record from ... William Hardie (son of John Hardie & Isabella Cousins) is brother to my G G G grandfather. He is only recorded as having married twice..

Jean Taylor in 1821 (with whome he had a daughter)
Catherine McFarland in 1833 (with whom he had 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls).

There are extensive letters as well as census records etc which verify this.

I too have a Wliiam Hardie c 1790 Ayrshire, d ? Kilmarnock. Married Marion Gibson . His father John Hardie 1760-1833 m Isabella Cousins.

Hi ........... I have a lot of information regarding the family. His family was split up when the father died shortly after the mother died in 1875. Herbert James moved to Winnipeg after he married Nellie Irene Becker, they had 5 children. He was a book keeper. My wife's gggrandmother would have been Herbert Jame's aunt. Get in touch and we will get you everything we have which includes what would have been Herbert James' grandparents in Scotland. Herbert's brother became a famous missionary in Korea.

Rochester; was born in Kinrossshire, Scotland, June 9, 1821; came to New York in 1841; worked on the Illinois Canal, at Lockport, Ill., winter of 1841-42; worked on the dam at Milwaukee, in 1844; came to Dover with his brother David. He owns 430 acres land in Sections 4, 5, 8, 9, and has been farming since he came here. He married, in Dover, Jan 5, 1846, Mary Ormiston, daughter of Samuel Ormiston, and has six children living- Grace, Mary Ann, George, William, John, Maggie. (The History of Racine and Kenosha Counties, Wisconsin, 1879)

A sibling, Peter Craig Hardie was also in WI in the 1840s

I have a picture of the house of J.R. Hardie of Grafton, W. Va. No date is given. It was with my aunt's photos and I am at a loss to see the connection to our family. For what it's worth... a Joseph John Hardee (b. c. 1770 in NC) married Jane Joyce Cone (b. 14 Nov 1772 in Chesterfield, Cheraw Co., SC)... It may not be the same guy...
On the otherhand, the rest of the Cone family ended up down around Camden Co., GA... where William Joseph Hardee... of Civil War fame... was born...
His father was Capt. John Hardee...

Some references show they came from Wilkinson County but I believe they came from Washington County, GA. I would be glad to exchange information with you.

We are decendants of the above. Contact my cousin Carol Tillman 918-747-2491 for complete information. She is our family biographer. this David was our Great Great grandfather. His Son David Jr our Great Grandfather. David Sr.'s Father was James Hardie Married to Helen Graham.

Laura Brown Hardie Born-10/1/1869 Died-10/1910, I have figured out that she is the wife of Sam Hardie but know nothing more

Andrew Brown 10/1/1869, date is not recorded as a death or birth.

Had a closer look at my tree. There were 2 James's. The 2nd one I have marrying Margaret Findlay or Finlay (educated guess). Would be great if you could confirm this.

Ordained Presbyterian Minister 1885 Toronto, Ontario. Married Mary Ann Herrett 1885. Lived Listowell, Ashfield,Ayr and London, Ontario. Served at the Stanley Street Presbyterian Church Ayr, Ontario. Three Children Stanley Cochrane Hardie, David Herrett Hardie, Margaret Gladstone Hardie. Died 1931 London, Ontario. Buried in Ayr Cemetery. Parents David Hardie & Ann Smith. Ring any bells?
