I have had a look at the St Elphin records for births and burials as this is near my own research interest, and I can find no children of the couple. The only thing I did find was the following burial for John I think.

Burial: 9 Nov 1783 St Elphin, Warrington, Lancashire, England
John Hardman -
Age: 44
Occupation: Husbandman
Register: Burials 1779 - 1812, Page 41, Entry 2
Source: LDS Film 1562958

This would make him abt 25 when he married Betty in 1764.
He is also a husbandman, as was John Hardman who married Betty Rigby. I'm not sure if this is a help or not.

Susannah Hardman/Hartman and Joseph Wadsworth, 1804, Fayette & Bedford Pa.

Hello.
I am looking for information on Susannah Hardman/Hartman who married Joseph Wadsworth ca. 1804. He was from Bedford, Pa., so I assume she is from there as well since a David and Daniel Hardman show up in the will of Joseph Kelley, who was Joesph Wadsworth's grandfather and neighbors of the Wadsworths and Kelleys in Cumberland Twp. in Bedford. I thought she was a daughter of Daniel Hardman, but his 1813 will states she Susannah was married to someone else, James Kelso. I'd appreciate any information.

- Steve Showers

Sorry to say, but I gave wrong data on original post. Please see new post which I just made which really clarifies the data. I do not recognize the names you have mentioned. Good luck. Try seeing real documents on wvculture.org & also the new web site of Hacker's Creek Pioneer Descendants which now has actual records you can see for free.
My marriage data for John Henry Hardman's wife is all wrong! He did NOT marry twice! His wife in various records show her as Ellen King, then P.E.Hardman, in later years as Ellen Hardman. From records in visits to court houses, geneal. libraries & societies, etc. in WV, reading complete censuses for Harrison & Marion Co. & from other records, NOW KNOW her real name was Phebe Ellen King. Cunningham name was all wrong. Phebe went by her middle name. She was dau. of Cornelius W. King (b.abt.1820,d.abt. 1870-1880) & Sarah Ann(See)King b. abt.1822. They resided in Fairmont, Marion Co. WV. This Cornelius W. no doubt was related to another of the same name as neighbors to Henry/Mary Bice in 1850 Harrison Co. where John Henry was born in 1848. Sorry for misleading data. Many trips to WV & yrs. of research yield conclusively that John Henry's dad Henry was s/o Daniel & Nancy(Fowler)Hardman who took all but Henry to live in Morrow Co. which later became Marion Co.,Ohio. Daniel was s/o Peter(man) Hartman/Hardtman/Herdman/Hardman & Charlotte Lazier, who was s/o Nicholas & Margarete(unknown) that stayed in Ingleheim am Rhein, Germany.
The 1850 District 22 Harrison Co. census has family as headed by Mary HERDMAN, a widow w/7 chldn. The ages on several chldn we know are off by a few years which we learned from their marriage records etc. They were orphaned shortly after census & split up in the community of Clarksburg.
DINAH HARDMAN

I am not sure if Dinah is part of my Hardman family. She was born in 1906 and died in 1912. There is no record of her birth in the UK.She is buried in Blackley cemetery, Manchester in the Jewish section. This indicates her mother was Jewish. The only Jewish Hardman male from my family in the UK at that time, was Abraham, my grandfather, who arrived in Manchester around 1904/5 .He married in 1908. Records show Dinah died whilst living in Pimblett Street,Manchester .
The family who lived there according to the 1911 census were called Goldsmith. Can anyone help me with a link or clue to Dinah's parents for elimination purposes?

The following may be somewhat of a match on your Whitcomb end. A John WHITCOMB, born in Hardwick, Mass., Sept 17, 1761, married Lydia Hayden PARMENTER of Stockbridge, VT on Sept 2, 1788. Seven children. They moved to Hamilton Co. Ohio, near the city of Cincinnati, in 1806. John died in 1822 in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio (possibly visiting). His son Simon lived there before going to Clinton, Indiana. Simon was born in 1810 in Hamilton Co., Ohio, near Cincinnati. One of John and Lydia sons, James born 1795 VT, became the 1st Whitcomb governor of Indiana. He's one of the statues in the circle in downtown Indianapolis. Whitcomb family history, see (long URL) http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/cdm4/document.php?CISOROOT=/FH1... published in 1904. I'm tracking the Whitcomb line in Ohio and have a lot of loose ends. I descend from a daughter, not sure which yet but I believe it is Lydia, the daughter. dstfelix *at* zoomtown.com

Eventually went to Harrison Co. now Hacker's Creek/Jane Lew area, Lewis Co WV abt.1786. Strongly convinced that PA Hardman are related to WV Hardman due to same given names repeatedly used. Peter's siblings arrived on previous ship. Don't know the ship or sibling names. Believe they 1st arrived N.Y. & possibly Phila. after. Many variant spellings on all surnames. Tx 4 reply.
Hardman, Tasman – Tasmania

Thomas Richard Hardman (b. 11 Feb 1845, d. 29 Nov 1906) married Mary Sophia Rowe Trethewie (b. 5 Jan 1845, d. 28 Oct 1925) on 9 Nov 1864 at White Hills, Tasmania. Thomas Richard and Mary are my great grandparents with my descendant line through their last-born son Tasman, b. 12 Feb 1882, d.12 Apr 1957.

We have completed loading all available data to Legacy Family Tree and have 3 books ready for publication and pertaining:
Thomas Hardman – Elizabeth Baker (2nd great grandparents).
Thomas Richard Hardman - Mary Sophia Rowe Trethewie (great grandparents).
Tasman Hardman – Daisy Grace Chittenden Hadlow (grand parents).

We are seeking to make contact with descendants of Tasman Hardman’s siblings in an attempt to source additional material (documents/photographs) of Tasman life prior to him leaving Tasmania about 1903. It is indicated Tasman spent a couple of years in King Island and possibly New Zealand prior to arriving Australia about 1912.

Tasman’s married siblings refer:
1.	Fanny Elizabeth m. David Beattie 21 Jun 1899.
2.	Thomas Richard m. Hester Nettleton 1897 and Margaret Monica.
3.	Alfred Ernest m. Gertrude Francis Bomford 9 Jul 1894 and Ada Isobel Wyatt 7 Mar 1905.
4.	Arthur William m. Agnes Hamilton Birel Cunningham 21 Feb 1894.
5.	Walter m. Agnes Mc Eldren 16 Jan 1903.
6.	Edwin m. Neradah Etheline Hawks 22 Apr 1903.
7.	Flora Christina m. Oswald Blake Hevingham Root 7 Nov 1898.
8.	Marion Ruby m. Campbell Stephenson 29 Oct 1906.
9.	Ella Maud m. Frederick Bowling 19 Apr 1904.

Willing to share data, looking forward to a positive response.
Who are Elizabeth Hardman & John Liebe of Ohio?

I've hit a brick wall.
I am looking for the parents of John J Liebe of Ross County, Ohio, who was born 22 Aug 1852 and died 29 Nov 1928. John J Liebe's wife was Martha Ann Whitcomb of Ross County, Ohio, who was born 21 Jan 1856 and died 18 Aug 1928.

John J Liebe's death certificate states that his mother is Elizabeth Hardman of Ohio. There is no other information on her. The certificate states that his father is John Liebe of Ohio. I see on some of the ancestry trees, the father is John Liebe of Pennsylvania, born 1797. The mother, Elizabeth has been listed on those trees as born in 1813 in Ohio. I see a John and Elizabeth Liebe in the 1850 censu. In 1860 census, I see John & Elizabeth with John J who is 7 years old. That's the last I see of John & Elizabeth. I can't find any record before 1850 of which they are living alone. I can't find death certificates or birth certicates on John & Elizabeth Hardman Liebe.

John J Liebe is my great grandfather. I hope that someone has information as well as documentation for proof. I live in Maine and can't search for county records but I don't believe there may be any.
Thank you.

James Hardman b1872 d1921 (Hardmans of Sutton, Surrey)

I am trying to trace my family tree and I am stuck on my Great Grandad James Hardman who was born in Lancashire around 1872, he moved down to Carshalton/Sutton area in the late 1800s and married Harriett Eliza R Shepherd ( b1874 from Sutton Daughter of Robert and Fanny) in 1900,in Sutton. They had four children, Daisy, James, George and Robert-Leslie (my Grandad). They lived at the same address 39 Harold Road, Crashalton, Surrey since 1901 and he was a plasterer by trade. I have been told that he was cousins with Harold Payne Hardman ex footballer and manager of Manchester United and well known solicitor in Manchester, whether they were first cousins or distantly related is not known. The trouble I have tracing him is that I only know he is from Lancashire near Manchester, the census records don't give much more detail than that. Also James Hardman is quite a popular name up that way at the time and several James Hardmans were born around the same time. My Mother never knew her Grandfather as he died in 1921, 15 years before she was born and she can't remember any details, especially about siblings and where he was actually from. I am hoping that someone on this board will be able to help, hopefully these details will help.

Thanks :)

This post straightens out a mistake that appears in most Anthony Hardman trees, where his daughter Catherine is said to have married Christian Meese. In fact, it was Daniel's daughter, Anthony's granddaughter, who married Meese. Thank you for posting this information.

Hi Joan. Thanks for the great information. My father was Douglas Hardman, my grandfather was Alfred T Hardman and my great grandfather was William L. So that puts in the Gallius Hartman line as well.

I am having a tough time finding information on Alfred. The Gallius line shows Alfred's sister Ruth but no mention of Alfred or his twin brother Albert.

Again, thanks.

Corine

It is VERY possible that our HARDMAN/HOUSTON families are related. However, I am not familiar with the name Andrew Houston(House' ton) My Houstons lived in Bainbridge, GA in the early 1900's, and somewhere near or in Macon, GA. My Hardmans lived in Columbus, GA. I will try to locate Andrew Houston in my files and will post on this page if I find him.

Joseph Hardman I b. 1714 Germany

For many years Hardman family histories have included an assumption that Joseph Hardman I,
b. Germany 1714, is buried in Frostburg, Allegany, MD. I think this assumption was made on the basis of 2 facts. #1 Joseph Hardman, of Frederick, MD, with a team and wagon was conscripted to join Gen. Braddock on his march to Fort Cumberland in 1755. They encamped near present-day Frostburg.
#2 Scharf, in his book "The History of Western Maryland" cites the grave marker of "Joseph Hartman, native of Prussia, died aged 67 years" buried within the limits of the old Catholic cemetery in Frostburg.
I have determined that the grave marker is inscribed as Scharf said, however, church records say that Hartman died June 12, 1881. He is found in Frostburg census records through 1880, born in Prussia 1814, which does make him aged 67 at death. He is not Joseph Hardman of Frederick.
I hope this puts this legend to rest. Joseph I appears in Frederick records for some years after 1755 and I believe he is buried in Frederick.
Julie Shepherd, 8th generation descendant

Re: Hardman family of Co. Louth

In case you don't receive notifications on my earlier response:

I have recently been researching my family tree and discovered a distant grandmother of mine is a Catherine / Catharine / Catty Hardman from Richardstown, Dromin, Dunleer, Co. Louth Ireland. Catherine married John Holdcraft in 1800 (give or take one year) and they had many children, some of the descendants of which remain today in Ireland, others are known to be in the US - with whom there is some contact today.

John Holdcraft is believed to have been a Captain in the British Army (I'm looking into this at present) and the Holdcraft family are believed to have originally come from Lancashire as part of the Cromwell settlement in County Louth (some of this information remains to be confirmed but the evidence to support this is building at present). It is interesting that there is both a Hardman and a Holdcraft connection with both Oliver Cromwell and with Lancashire.

Anyway, I have a number of records for Hardman marriages, births and deaths in the Dunleer parish in county Louth if anyone is interested in them:

Births:
Mary Hardman, born 2-5-1809, father James Hardman, mother Catherine Philips, address Big Barn
John Hardman, born 17-2-1841, father Laurence Hardman, mother McCorry, address Dromin.
Mary Harman, born 29-5-1843, father Laurence Hardman, mother McCorry, address Painstown.
Bridgett Hardman, born 16-9-1843, father James Hardman, Mother Mary McCann, address Mullacapul
Luke Hardman, born 14-4-1846, father James Hardman, Mother Mary McCann, address Mullacapul

Marriages: [female - all hardman]
Mary, Francis Hugs, 25-2-1798, witnesses: Patrick Byrne, James Hugs.
Margaret, Thomas Campbell, 1-11-1800, witnesses: Richard Rodgers, Thomas Carrel.
Catherine, James Thornton, 17-2-1803, witnesses: Patt Hardman, Thomas Kelly.
Jane, Thomas Campbell, 14-2-1804, witnesses: Joseph Jameson, Revd McCarney.
Mary, Thomas Banan, 14-5-1824, witnesses: Edward Mullen, Margaret Hall.
Anne, Address: Mormount, William McGanley, 4-2-1834, witnesses: Peter Cunnighy, Patt Magee.
Bridgett, Address: Mormount, Patt Leonard, 16-10-1839, witnesses: Patt Mullen, Mathew Kelly.

I also have marriage records from 1805 to 1856 for John, James, Michael, Patt, James, Thomas, Thomas and John, marrying Mary Hand, Bridget Dolan, Margaret Mihan, Anne Keiran, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Kenny, Catharine Landy and Ellen Halligan respectively.

Apart from a couple of death records, that is all that I appear to have on the Hardings in Dunleer, Co. Louth.

Dunleer is approximately 10 miles from Drogheda so there is possibly a connection with the Hardmans in Drogheda - which I would be very interested to explore.

Best of luck,

Paul.

Paul.
