Dear Ruth,

I was meandering through the messsages and came across your note regarding your grandfather, your studies and my name. In my studies I have now met several interesting informants with information and have stayed at The Corridge, home of George Harle (mother's side) in Hartburn N'land. It was a great experience and took me back to the 18th C very quickly,as did the perusal of graveyards in Bolam, Hartburn and Kirkharle. My email is now nhbrain@tpg.com.au if you wish to write.

Hello,
my great-grandfather's name was also William Sharpe Harle. I thought he lived in Tyne Tees or at least that area. My mother's brother is William Edward Harle. He was able to give me some family information but when I researched further I came across a lady called Heather Brain who lives in Australia and she gave me family information dating back to about 1740. Her father's name was Harle. I read your surname derivation with interest. For a long time I thought the name derived from the word churl, or man, like the name Charles. Anyways I don't know if we are connected or just share a relative with the same name,
Best wishes, Ruth Kereliuk

Hi there, I'm new at this and have very little information to start out with. My grandparents were Jack and Elsie Harle (nee Boyles) and they lived in Kent. Jack was in the Navy and I am not currently sure where they originated from. However I am hoping that Jack which seems to be a less used Harle name might ring bells for someone.
Thanks
K

Hi Carole
Its Barry again. Going through other postings relating to our family I noticed that you put on a message in 2007 re
Edith Harle. In my early years I lived a couple of miles from Leytonstone and have not heard of Edith. Also Jonh and Doris another brother of Fred lived in Leytonstone all their lives. Does this help.
Also have you developed a family tree
Barry

Would you have any pictures of Mary Ellen Spencer Markee? I've been doing research for my son. The info I have is Mary Ellen married Albert T Markee around 1907. There son Albert T was my ex husbands father who is buried in Greenwood by his mother. He really didn't know his father or anything about the Markee side of the family. Looks like Mary remarried after 1920 which I guess is when he died. Thats the last time I found them on the census, incorrectly spelled Markie, and by 1922 She had a child by ? Harle. Not sure what his first name was.

Rochelle

Harles in Gateshead (18th century)

I've managed to trace this line back to a Frances Harle, who married William Urwn at St Mary's in Gateshead, April 1794. On the christening records for her children, it says that Frances is native of Heworth and daughter of Robert Harle. From this I've figured her to be the Frances Harle in the IGI christened in Heworth, 1769. Does this tie up with anyone else's Harles?

Would appreciate any info to get me further back on this line. I research cousin branches too, so if anyone knows Frances' siblings, that would be good :-) The IGI didn't mention a mother.

Hi Brenda, I read your post from August, and my gg grandmother was Alice S. Harle, b. in Apr. 1862 in Phillipsburg, NJ. From 1880 census data I learned she had 2 siblings living at home at the time. Ella, age 10 (in 1880), and James T., age 6. Their parents were William Harle, a carpenter, b. 1831, in NJ, and Sarah A. (?maiden name), b. about 1836, in NJ. I'd llike to find out her maiden name. William Harle's father, was also listed in the same area in 1850. He was also a carpenter, b. in 1795, in NJ. I don't know his wife's name either. Maybe this will help you in your search, and if you want more info about this line, I'll be glad to send you more. My aunt, in her 80's, now, believes that Phillipsburg, NJ and Easton, PA are actually neighboring towns, connected by a bridge which crosses the Delaware River there. So, there was probably a lot of crossing even in historic times which might explain the NJ to PA links. Looking foward to hearing from you, Ellen

Paul,

Thank you so much for your info. I started with very little info on this family. I was able to trace Violet's family a bit after they came to the U.S. but have not started searching for records in England. Your info will be very helpful. I will try to help you in any way I can. You have more of the family's history going back from Violet then I do. Maybe I can try to help you fill in the current family history. I have contact with Francis' brother John (Jack) and his daughter. I can ask them any questions we came up with also. He like Francis' had very limited info of thier family history due to growing up in foster homes. I sent a reply email to your wife and hope to hear from you soon.

Melissa,

It is not often one finds relatives on the message boards, however I guess you are the 2nd cousin of my daughters. Their great grandmother is also Violet Louisa Harle of Huddersfield, England. The information in your posting is very consistent with what I have on our family tree. I have some additional information also. I'll send you copies of the relevant trees.

Violet was the daughter of Thomas Henry Harle and Louisa M. (Hitchcock). We show the Harle family sailing from Southampton, England to New York in 1899 however have not confirmed whether Thomas was born in England (York?) or in New York. Louisa is the daughter of George Hitchcock and Mary (Horner), of Leighton Buzzard, England. Mary is the daughter of John Horner. My wife (daughter of Francis Boyle) has had contact over the years with the Hitchcock family in England and much of our information is from them.

We have very limited information on the Boyle side of the family, however show Robert as the son of Everett Charles O'Boyle of Ireland and Margeritte Francesca (Weber). We also show 5 siblings of Robert; Edna, Ruth, Lucy, Grace and Henry.

We obviously didn't have you on our tree however so whatever info you have to "fill in the blanks" is much appreciated.

Thanks to all the people who helped me I now have much more information on my Great Grandmother. I didn't have alot of information to work with. Her name was Violet Harle She Married Robert Boyle born 1889 in Buffalo NY. She was born in England about 1894. It is my understanding she came here as a salvation army signer and then met my great grandfather. She lived in Cuyahoga Country Ohio in Cleveland. She had eight children Frances (Edgan) , George, Richard, John (Jack), Robert Gladys Patricia, Shurlee Ann and Corp. Thomas Aruther who died Nov. 24, 1950 in Germany During WWII.
I now know she was born Violet Louisa Harle in Huddersfield England in Dec 1894 She had four sisters, Dorothy (Corrigan)who was married to George P. and died in Chicago Ill about Sept.23,1960, Daisy (Schuld), Maude and Lily. Her mother was Louisa who died about April 4, 1959 in Cleveland OH, and her father was Thomas his middle name may have been Aruther. I think he had a brother named John Ellis Harle but we are not sure of that. If anyone else has any of these people in there tree or any information please email me at lissa3333@aol.com
