Well, since this post was from 2005, I don't know where I thought there were 17 sibs. I now have 11. I have had help recently from 2 volunteers from RAOGK. Both were on Harpes, but due to marriages, one person was able to get Harpe records from Drouin and Frampton, St. Edouard Church records. I found out that one of the volunteers and I are related. I have not worked on this for a few months as I am getting ready for a move. I have the names and dates of birth of these children. It also seems that Henri Harpe's, (Neri, Neree) name at birth was Etienne. As it's his same date of birth. I had never seen this before. How are you related? Henri (Neri) was my great grandfather. I was born in Maine. I have lots of Harpe (Herpe) info traced back to France.

I'm looking for information on my g. grandfather, Thomas Harpe. He married Grace Gallivan and they had a child, Margaret Catherine Harpe. Margaret was my grandmother. I'm not sure if they had any other children. I don't know anything about him, except that he might have been (partially or fully) Cherokee indian. My g. grandfather, g. grandmother and my grandmother would have lived in OH and/or MI.

French Canadian Harpes

My grandfather Real Harpe was born in Quebec in 1900, moved to Belle River, Ontario, worked as a banker for a while and started a hardware store with his brothers-in-law. He was the youngest of five with four older sisters. My aunt did a geneology study of the Harpe family and found way back in the 1700s we were de la Harpe.

I've been googling today, found this site, also a French explorer in the Louisiana territory named de la Harpe who almost certainly is family as well as a couple of towns in KS and IL named La Harpe, that -someday- I'll have to visit.

email me at harpedc@hotmail.com or jeffharpe@gmail.com Be patient, I don't check my inbox regularly.
I'm not sure if it is the same family, but I have great uncles named Albert and Gleasen who were trappers in La Pas, Pikwitoni, Alberta. They both married Sarah Campbell. Albert married her first and when he died, Gleasen married her. Their sister, my grandmother, was Nellie Harpe and married Lawrence Xavier Goldsborough. My mother, Joyce Goldsborough was born in Parry Sound, Ontario and moved to Dearborn, Michigan. She married Earl L. May and had 3 children---Paul, Joann and Thomas. I would like to find out more about Nellie and Gleasen. I knew Gleasen and Sarah (we called her Aunt Sadie) well and they visited our house often in Dearborn, Michigan. He worked for years for the Canadian National Railway. When he retired, he became a trapper. If you have any more info, I would love to hear it.

I actually wrote it more for the Harp(e) family than I did for anyone else, and I've made contact with several Harp(e)s since the book was published.

It tells the story of the Harpe Brothers from the standpoint of a Harpe, and I think this is the first time that has been done.

I sent you an email at the address that shows up here, and I appreciate the reply to the post.

Greetings,

I am a rather long-term friend of Shideler Harpe via the condominium on Wrightwood Ave. in Chicago. After Merle and Shideler divorced, I stayed in touch and visited Shideler in Sacramento, via train of course, on the way back to Chicago from San Francisco. Afterwards, he would send annual Christmas cards, always suggesting a farewell train trip to the Midwest but for the last few years, my cards to him were neither answered nor returned as undeliverable. Thus, if this reaches you, do let me know about your father current status. Hope you & he are both well.

Best wishes,
Bill

I have an old Bible of Ora s. Crawford and Lorene Harper-Crawford. My daughter found this in a garage sale around the Owasso, Okla area. There was an elderly woman at the garage sale that said "This bible doesn't need to be in this garage sale". The way she acted she had no choice so my daughter got it and said for me to find some relatives to give this to as it has a lot of information in it. It dates back to when Lorene and Ora were married in Oct 28 1950l. It has a lot of names in it and it should go to the rightful owners which is decendants of Ora and Lorene or back to them if possible. We just thought if we posted something on the genealogy message boards that someone might come forward and claim it. We will be glad to send it otr take it to them...

I have been researching the Harp family for over 2 years. My husband's great- grandfather was in the civil war and captured. He was sent to Camp Chase in Columbus, Ohio. We cannot find out who his relatives are. Story told us was he was raised by an very mean uncle and ran away more than once only to be chased down by dogs and returned to the mean uncle. The last time he ran away he join the confederacy in South Carolina. We found information where he enlisted but there we get stopped. Any information might give us a break. Thanks.

Would very much like to see the line back to either Micajah or Wiley. According to my father, his father, and his father, we are direct decendents of one or the other of the two brothers. As they seemed to exchange wives, there appears to be some question as to what child belonged to which brother, however, names of any children of either of these two men would be most helpful. I have names of at least two of the children, Lovie and Joe, but certainly would like to learn more. I have written two novels based on these colorful characters, in which I've included not only their real history, but also a good bit of generalized fiction. Please email me at edharpe@yahoo.com. I'll be more than happy to share what information I have.
Thanks
Harpe

Greetings! I would very much like to have a copy of that family tree.
My Harp(e) lineage goes back only to James Harpe (ca. 1770-1840).
His children took the spelling Harp, and family lore has it
that they wanted to disassociate themselves from the Harpe boys,
to whom they were presumably related. If I have the lineage of the Harp boys
perhaps I can make a connection.

Please respond to wjharp@aol.com

Many thanks,

Jim Harp
