Re: Harper Immigrants from PA to Ohio

I have 5 Adams in my tree. Adam Harper:
Birth 11 Sep 1817 in Ross, Ohio, USA.
Death 16 Oct 1893 in DeSoto, Dallas, Iowa, USA.
His father: Adam Harper (I call Senior)
Birth 5 Sep 1763 in Augusta, Virginia, British America
Death 11 Jan 1847 in Lattaville, Ross, Ohio, USA.
His father: Adam Harper (I call Adam I) born abt 1741 probably Germany d 1820 Ross County Ohio.

The latter Harper was perhaps a Herper in Germany.

There is a census record which shows his parents as born in PA but I believe it to be in error as all my other documentation shows the above. Augusta County VA became Pendleton County, West Virginia so that sometimes comes up too.
I have pictures of the gravestone for Adam Sr and Adam. I am looking for a death date for Adam's son SAMUEL JEFFERSON HARPER. If you could help me - great!

I have a number of sons and daughters. Adam yes, John and Henry - no.

My grandmother was Kate Harper Reid. Daughter of William A. Harper and Susan Iles. They lived in Sugartown early on and moved to DeRidder. She had two brothers (Dempsey and Dock) that moved to Corpus Christi or Robstown early in their life. Her siblings were Vincy, Dock, Burl, Betty, and Dempsey. I know that Dempsey died in Robstown, Tx. in about 1959.

Perhaps your children's gggrandfather was called Dock. Aunt Mattie and Aunt Della were sisters of Susan Iles.

Wm. Alexander Harper of MS/LA/TX

My children's great-grandfather was:
William Alexander Harper
b.9/11/1875 in Hale,MS d. 2/12/1953 in Corpus Christ,TX
m. 6/30/1903 in Sugartown, LA
Martha Sidonia (Donie) Young (LeJeune)
b.3/19/1881 in Sugartown, LA d. 1/25/1962 in Corpus Christi,TX
I know he had brothers Dempsey and Burl and a sister Betty. I also know from family papers that he had an aunt "Mattie" Iles married to George LeRay of DeRidder, LA.
I have found some info that leads me to believe that he is a Junior - that his mother was Susan Iles and his father was a William Alexander Harper, however, I haven't been able to verify this. Does anyone out there know more about these people?
I would appreciate any help.
Phyllis Hopper

Isaac Harper b. about 1812 in Va (wife: Abigail, brother to Manadier))

I haven't had a chance to do any research lately, but I really need some help from the other Harpers out there.

I am looking for further information in regard to Isaac. Information at this link: http://worldconnect.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op...

We descend from his son William, and I have talked to several other people who have descended from Isaac as well, although it has been a few years. My immediate family members were always told that William's father's name was also William. We were told that the elder William moved from Missouri to Arkansas to escape prosecution for killing a man, and that "William" was likely not his real first name. After communicating with several other family members that I met on here, we're pretty certain that our elder "William" was actually the Isaac shown in the link above. Everything about where his children were born adds up.

Are there any other Harpers out there who are willing to share information about this man? What happened? Why did he run? Or did he really even run?

No, I'm just trying to follow M.C.'s (Leroy M. Harper) DNA trail. Solomon matches 25 markers out of 25 markers to Mack's. So I'm trying to connect from 1827 to 1740. Mack has a son named Solomon. Have you visited the Harper DNA page to see what lines match?

Our Harper line is brick walled with the 3 Harper siblings mentioned in my original post. On the 1850 census record they are living with their mother Ann Harper in Richland County, SC. I have been told that the 3 Harper siblings father was James F. Harper, born abt. 1810 in SC who married Ann Elizabeth Nichols. This makes sense due to my ancestor being names James Nichols Harper, however, I have never been able to find anything to verify that information.

There are living male Harpers in Lincoln County Arkansas, that are descended from James Nichols Harper, but I have not made any contact with them to see if anyone would be interested in the DNA study. I had one male uncle who was a Harper, but he passed away several years ago and had no male children.

My ancestor is Leroy M. (M.C., Mac, Mack) Harper. He was born in Georgia May 1827. The names in his family has a lot of Williams, Jasper, Thomas, Solomon.
Yes, that is definitely a much more common Haplogroup than G, and it would mean we weren't related. If you aren't already a member, be sure to join the Harper surname group on family tree dna: http://www.familytreedna.com/public/Harper/ There are quite a few R1b1 Harpers listed, and someone there could be a match. I any case, thanks so much for contacting me--I appreciate it!

Do you have a Collins-Harper tree with Solomon Harper 1740 North Carolina died about 1800? The DNA sample matches Solomon Harper. Thanks!

My haplogroup is R1b1a2a1a1b4. So that would not put us as related I guess.
