Rebecca P Harrow 1787-1863 was the daughter of an Episcopalian clergy. Her parents appear to have died and she became the ward of John Taliaferro in King George County Virginia.

In 1812 she married Samuel Lewis Southard (born NJ 1787) who had been the tutor to the Taliaferro family and later went on to career which included US Senator, NJ Governor and Secretary of the Navy.

I have been unable to discover the names of Rebecca's parents. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I assume you have looked at the 1880 US Census showing Ruth Brown (82, Mother, NY) living in Elizabeth Harrow's household; she is a widow.

I believe the Decatur County courthouse records were destroyed around 1873. I have been unable to locate a marriage record for Samuel and Elizabeth. I have also been unable to locate probate records for Samuel Harrow (and assume he died prior to the courthouse burning). Elizabeth's obituary, which I recall being published online, did not list her parents.

Decatur County, Iowa has wonderful records online - My ONLY interest in Harrow at the moment is related to the woman who married Samuel Harrow [b Abt 1798-1800 KY & d bet 30 Jun 1870 & 5 Jul 1880] after his marriage to Nancy [b 1799 d 7 Sep 1862 & bur Leon Cem., Leon, Decatur Co., IA] I want info on Elizabeth [Brown?] Williams. I believe Elizabeth may be the d/o John H. & Ruth Sherman Brown, both b NY. That would make her sister of my 2xGreat GM = Mary Ann Brown Drake. Elizabeth m.. ? Williams and was a widow in 1860 living with Warren & Deborah Post. I have a hunch that Deborah is also a d/o John H. & Ruth Sherman Brown. I am trying to prove that Deborah and Elizabeth were Brown's & Ruth was their mother. Elizabeth m Samuel after his wife's death on 7 Sep 1862 and before the 30 Jun 1870 US Federal Census. I have not been able to locate a marriage record to date. Any info out there? Thank you, Sally Randol-Hardy - Alabama

My gggrandfather Thomas Ransom Bullard born 1805 at Kirmington, Lincolnshire, England married Mary Ann Harrow, a widow, on 22 April 1827 at St Sepulchre, London. Mary Ann's address in Pallot's Marriage Index is given as St Mary Hull Yorkshire, and she was born about 1798 - maiden surname not known, but may have been Dickson. She was buried on 12 March 1837 at Barton-on-Humber, Lincolnshire. Am interested in information as to her ancestry , her first husband, and any children that she may have had from her first marriage. There was a daughter and three sons from her second marriage , the daughter being my ggrandmother Emma Louisa Drummond nee Bullard.

He died 1850 in Lisbone, Linn County, Iowa. His wife was Sarah Miller who died in 1876. His father was David Troup.

That is about all I have except Asa and Sarah Harrow were out in California by 1860 and were here during the North Coast gold rush.
Mary Ann married David Eby and her daughter Elma Daisy married a cousin Francis Marion Eby.
No, I have not read of an 'Asa'............do you have any idea what county in Indiana? I have not seen much of this name in that state; but there is a good chance the family was from Kentucky first. This is because most people from Indiana in the early 1800's had come in from the southern route. It is very possible that 'ASA' is a daughter of one of Elizabeth's brothers.

I do not have any other info on Elizabeth at this time, but I may find out more later.

Stephen(jr) and his brother Isaiah Fields were pioneer preachers of the Christian Church, the branch that later was named the CHURCH OF CHRIST. They were instrumental in starting several congregations in that area, especially in Greene Co.

Many of their descendants (and my line) of the Fields' family are active members of the church today. Stephen was the son of Stephen (sr.) and Sarah Short Fields. I have oodles of info of Sarah's ancestery if you are interested! She was a direct descendant of a royal line, the Plantagenent kings of England thru her mother, MARY HANSFORD SHORT.

pfg

Dear Diane,
Just found your note on the Virginia Harrows and you have given me hope. My ggrandmother was a Harrow from Middlesex Co., Virginia and she had a brother named William. Their father was Dr. William Miles Harrow and mother was Mary Almedia Carter. Dr. Harrow was born 28 Feb. 1808 and died Jun 20, 1882. He and Mary were married Feb 25, 1835 in Middlesex,Va. I have 10 children listed for this family. I would be greatful for any information on Dr. Harrow that you might be willing to share. Arabella Harrow's(child #2) husband was a lighthouse keeper at Stingray Point. You can contact my directly if you like at: pmidgette@ecinet2000.com
Thank you
Pam
