Your grandfather was a younger brother of my great-grandfather John Hartland. John married Marth Tilley and immigrated to the US in 1888. My grandfather Walter Daniel Hartland was born in 1896 in Pennsylvania. My father, James Hartland is still living and he remembers visiting "Granny Mann" who would be the great-grandmother to both you and him.

James Albert Hartland of Brisbin, Clearfield County, PA

James Albert Hartland, son of James Thomas Hartland and Charlotte Ann (Jones) Hartland of Brisbin, Clearfield County, PA, was born Aug. 10, 1896 in Brisbin and died Jan. 21, 1961 at his son's home in Johnstown, PA. James Albert Hartland was married on Oct. 6, 1915 to Catherine Mostyn (Feb. 3, 1897--June 15, 1919).
I would like to get an obituary for Catherine (Mostyn) Hartland who died in childbirth and find out if she is buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brisbin, PA. I know that James Thomas Hartland died July 15, 1938 and he is buried in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Brisbin, which is why I think that his daughter-in-law may be buried in that same cemetery.
Can anyone help me?

Hi - I've just seen your message on Ancestry. Unfortunatly I can't email you direct: can you confirm your personal email address?

We are definitely related through Joseph - I'm using the library computer at the moment and don't have any detailed information with me, but I'll let you have all the details I have as soon as I can.

If you haven't found the marriage of Joseph to Ann Burgess, this is because the marriage is indexed under 'Fellows' and indeed the register of St Peters Wolverhampton gives his name as Fellows (this caused me some headscratching) - also, this certificate gives Ann's father as John Burgess, a farm bailiff: in fact she was illegitimate and her mother married a John Warrender, who was an ag lab - more headscratching!

Anyway, it's always wonderful to find new relatives, and I'd love to find out more about Edward's line.

Whereabouts do you live? I'm in Wolverhampton.

However, Norman Wilkinson Hartland was my Grandfathers' brother (Ralph Frederick).
If you look at the 'Hartland-Smales' family tree, you will see how far I've managed to get.....Incidentally, the witnesses to William and Agnes' wedding were Eli and Clara Taylor ( Nee Hartland!)
Regards, Mike

Hello John, Sorry I have just found your query . Our connection to the Keenans is through a Margaret KEENAN born 1880 in NSW. I think her father was Christopher. She married James Arthur HARTLAND in in 1904, in Victoria. The Lindsay family are not connected to the Keenan on our line. The connection is through [James's sister] Rosanna Jane HARTLAND marrying Thomas James LINDSAY in 1887 in Victoria. Regards, Esma

Thomas Hartland, Tipton, West Bromwich

My grandfather, Samuel Hartland, was born 22 Jan 1864 in West Bromwich, son of Thomas Hartland and Susan Bell (dau. of Joseph and Sarah Bell), emigrated to America in 1884. The 1881 census places him, age 17, at no. 29 Pike Helve in West Bromwich, living with his mother Susan Bell Hartland Mann, his stepfather George Mann, and his siblings Thomas, Charles, Sarah, Joseph, and Ada. All the men of employable age were shown to be coal miners. His father, Thomas Hartland, died sometime between 1871-1879. The 1871 census places the Thomas Hartland family living on Dudley Road, St. James Parish, Swan village. Father Thomas Hartland (Jr.) can be found on the 1851 census living at a residence on Dudley Road, Christ Church Parish, showing his birth place as Tipton, apparently about 1830. His father, also named Thomas, was shown to be a visitor at the same residence, his birth place shown as Sedgley, circa 1784. Thomas Hartland Sr. and Catherine Hill were married 8 Dec 1817 at All Saints Parish, West Bromwich.

Am most interested in contacting anyone of this line.

Hartland help

I am trying to make a start tracing my wife's ancestors. We became interested after finding an old piece of card in her mum's attic with lots of names and dates on it. My wife knew her great gran's maiden name was Hartland but until now, we didn't know who they were or when they were born. The bugbear is we still don't know which part of the UK they lived. Perhaps these names and dates will ring a bell with someone who has them in their tree? Please let me know if you can expand this branch and my wife will be thrilled:
John Hartland born 21/03/1833, married Faith (nee unknown)born 15/02/1840, date of marriage Christmas day 1857. Children are: Henry Frances (sic) Hartland born 29/04/1859; Joseph Thomas born 11/11/1860; Ezra born 26/10/1862; Faith born 22/05/1865; Mercy Louisa born 15/02/1871; Ada born 17/07/1874; John Edward born 26/06/1876; Florence born 16/12/1880 (Florence Hartland is my wife's great gran, who we know married into the Hackney family. Thanks for any help you can give us. Regards, David.

Hi, we have corresponded before, about our Ainge surname. This time I have a query about my Susan Homes nee Hartland, left a wealthy farmer's widow at 25 (John was only 34) with children John 2yrs and Emma 1yr. The UK 1871 shows her household includes nephew Henry Dunne age 8 and niece Jane E age 8. I think their parents are Henry Dunn and Elizabeth in the 1881 Hereford St Owen census. Henry has joined ship Excelsior of Goole in the 1881. There are other links shown in census records between Herefordshire, London districts and Dublin.

Hi,

Thomas and Sarah Hartland moved to Canada in early 1900's and had son, Charles and daughter, Edith. Charles was my grandfather and married to Ms. Murton. Lived in Edgewood, B.C., Canada. Edith was my great aunt and lived in Salmo, B.C., Canada and died in 1960's. Charles (grandfather) died by TB in 1933 or so. Charles had seven children (four girls and three boys). One of boys was my father, George Hartland.

I want to find my great grandfather, Thomas Hartland's family generation in Birmington, Warwickshire if possible.
