Not sure if this thread is still active, but wonder if you have made any progress on this family. I am descended from the Samuel who married Ann Gant. I don't suppose you have found Richard and Mary Druell's marriage? I am interested that you have found a child born in 1746, my earliest so far is Anne in 1748.

Bridget

It is interesting that the Ellis name has carried forward. The Harwood family had two later John Ellis Harwood's. As for your question, I show Thomas Epps's father as Frances Epps (variously spelled Epps, Eppes, and Epes) of Prince George County. It appears that Frances Eppes was named after his father, also named Frances although some records show it as Francis Epes. You can do a search for "Early Virginia Families Along the James River" Volume II which covers Prince George County and references many Epps.

You may already be aware of this, but a Mr. John Lindsey Epps, Jr. applied for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR Membership 79786) and his application has information about your branch of the family.

Good luck with your search.
This is incredible information regarding the "John Ellis" name being used generation after generation in the EPPS family. And even just the ELLIS name. Since Polly named her son John Ellis (my g-g-g grandfather) the name ELLIS has not skipped a generation yet. As a matter of fact, most recently for the first time ELLIS has been used as a girl's name (ELLIS ANN).

Do you by chance have an idea of who Thomas Epps's parents were. As I hit the mid 1700's and back, things start to get difficult.

Hallo. I am trying to trace the marriage of Jonathan Harwood, c1811-1892, poss b.Seething Norfolk; died Lodden, Norfolk Censi give his wife's name as Susan/Suzanne. Some trees suggest she was Suzanne RUMMER and another Suzanne MICKLEBURGH. They had at least twelve children. The Rummer name appears to belong to an American family but I am not certain. If anyone is reserching this family, I would be glad to hear from you. Many thanks
Ann Forrester

I'm just wondering if anyone here is related to Dorsey A. Harwood. He was a Doctor in Ransom, IL in 1910 (in Census) and then later in California (1920 Census).

He was married to a Corneilia and had two sons, one was Donald. I believe Corneilia maiden name was McKinney or McKinley.

I'm not related to this family. The house I currently live in was built by "Dr. D.A. Harwood" sometime around 1913 or 1914, we found his name on a piece of wood behind the wall in our bedroom when we remodeled it a few years ago. Being a beginner genealogist...I was curious!

Hi Ray, One of life's coincidences. I am 'aeolus', and sent you an email today, mentioning Pearl S. Buck. I wrote this query before I knew Charlotte Little's maiden name. I found my answer (ROBERTS) and the marriage date (1 June 1847 Madras) only two weeks ago by doing an Asia search on the IGI using her husband Joseph Little's name, and then I think I did a batch number search and found Charlotte Susan Roberts. I got an amazing list of British marriages in India which I hadn't found elsewhere. I have not found a connection in my line with the Harwood surname.
JG

Rev Joseph Little (b. Bristol, Gloucestershire)'s first wife was Charlotte Roberts (b.8 September 1827, Ceylon), the daughter of the Rev Joseph Roberts (missionary to Ceylon & India and a fine scholar) & his wife Mary née Stonehouse. They had two other daughters who married Methodist missionaries. I have a lot of information on his descendants through his daughter Ellen & also on Joseph Roberts himself & his wife, (photos of both & much else) whose ancestors I can trace back to 1600. If you are interested let me know.

Raymond Cook

Re: Col. Richard Harwood

We have an old family Harwood-Tydings-Wellford Bible from Maryland. The Bible has written "given to Lucretia Harwood Tydings by a cousin." Who is the cousin? We think it could be a female Harwood. Did Richard Harwood 1785-1871(Bible death record listed) have a sister Mary who married a Knighton and they have a daughter also named Mary who married a Davis? In our records, there is listed a Mary E. Knighton. Also, there is a Mary R. Davis (husband: George W. Davis). Mrs. Davis died according to the Bible records 27 October 1853. These names are at the top and do not seem to connect to all the other Harwood and Tydings names in the Bible. Mary Davis could be Lucretia Harwood Tydings cousin. A theory at this point. Any help would be appreciated. (Lucretia nee Harwood married Jan 9,1845 Richard Tydings, so we know the Bible came into her possession after her marriage. ) Many Thanks, e-mail me at jblindner@verizon.net

I can help some with an Epps and Harwood connection, although it would not be for the William B. Harwood you are researching.

Mary "Polly" Harwood married Thomas Epps in Henrico County, VA, on 7 May 1805. Polly Harwood was the daughter of James Harwood and Fanny (Boles) Harwood.

Polly Harwood had a brother John Ellis Harwood (my g-g-grandfather). In fact, Polly and Thomas Epps named one of their sons John Ellis Epps (John Ellis Epps was born abt 1812 in Richmond).

Polly Harwood and Thomas Epps also had a son William Harwood Epps who appears to have been born abt 1806, also in Richmond. I don't really know anything more about that William.

Good luck with the search.

Hello Kelly
Gosh what an old original post mine was! Time flies when you are doing genealogy doesnt it? Yes - I am still here. I have not been doing much on the Harwood tree recently, but funnily enough was thinking I must go back to it. My GGGG Grand father was Henry Harwood (son of John and Susanna) b 21st May 1797 at Plush d. 21 Feb 1872, married Mary Croad 20th Dec 1815 at Alton Pancras. Their son was William Harwood b 1817 m Jane Longman, their son William b 1854 married his cousin Jane Harwood, their daughter Sarah Jane Harwood my Gt Grandmother.
Is this your line?
Kind regards
Jackie

Five children born between abt 1848 and 1857 in India, and two more b. abt 1853 Yorkshire and the last abt 1861 in Southampton.

I want to know the maiden surname of Charlotte, and am guessing it might be Harwood.

Wesleyan ministers and missionaries in India and Honduras and circuits in UK.
