POW/MIA Korean War HASSEL

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Lincoln County, Wisconsin as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. The Casualty Office has no family contact.

Soldier: LAMAR FRANK HASSEL
Born: 1931
Date of loss: Date of loss: August 1, 1950

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The HASSEL family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I found an old post mentioning the Alsace-Lorraine region which said that your great grandmother left a hand-scribed family history. Currently, I am working on the Kuffler and Becher (Becker) families from around Herbitzheim. Some of the the other areas you mentioned, like Nancy and Leon (Lyon) also seam to fall into place with the Becher family. My Becher's came to the U.S. in 1843 and settled into Sandusky County Ohio. I would love to hear from you.

Rev. Conrad Hassel, formerly of Sharon, Mercer Co., Pa.
Posted by: mdhof (IP Logged)
Date: October 25, 2007 12:46PM

Sharon Herald, Saturday, January 14, 1911 p. 1

REV. His many local friends will be pleased to learn of his success and a large turnout is expected.

Rev. Hassel, while here, is visiting his sisters, Mrs. Samuel Douglass and the Misses Catherine and Elizabeth Hassel.

Sharon Herald, Saturday, November 12, 1938 p. 5

REV. CONRAD HASSEL

Rev. Conrad Hassel died suddenly yesterday at his home in Lafayette, Ind. The deceased was born in Sharon, son of the late George and Elizabeth Hassel. Conrad Hassel, Local Clergyman Many Years, Passes Away.

The community was shocked Friday to learn of the unexpected death of the Rev. Conrad Hassel, 75, pastor of Salem Reformed Evangelical church, which occurred early Friday morning at his home 915 Ferry street. A heart attack was the immediate cause although he had been ailing for the past three months.

A native of Warren county, *Pa., Rev. Hassel was born Jan. 26, 1863, son of George and Elizabeth Hassel. After attending school in *Trumble county, Ohio, he worked in a nearby coal mine, later entering Calvin college at Cleveland, O., where he received the degrees of B.A. and A.M. He was graduated from Heidelberg seminary at Tiffin, O., with the degree of B.D. and was ordained and installed in his first charge at Ashland, O., which he had served during vacations and his last seminary year.

Rev. Hassel also served charges at Galion, O., Lafayette, Buffalo, N.Y., Indianapolis, and Fireside, O., after which he retired and came to Lafayette for residence.

When the Rev. John Hawk, pastor of Salem Reformed church, died in 1933, Rev. Hassel again became pastor of the church. He was a member of the foreign missionary board for 24 years, and for 12 years acted as presiding officer of the board of home missions of the synod of the Northwest and Central synod. In addition to his many parish activities, Rev. Hassel was a frequent contributor of poetry to the Christian World, Reformed Church Messenger and the Bellevue Gazette. His marriage to Lydia Forwick took place *Aug. 27, 1889.

Besides his widow, he leaves six children, Mrs. Louis Poll, Danville, Ill.; Mrs. George *Warmer, Riverside, Calif.; Otto Hassel, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; Miss Irene Hassel and Carl Hassel, Buffalo, N.Y., and Ira Hassel, at home. There are also a brother, Gustave Hassel, McKeesport, Pa., and two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Douglas and Miss Elizabeth Hassel, Sharon, Pa.

The body has been removed to the Soller and Baker funeral home, where friends may call after 6 p.m. Saturday. The body will be taken to the Salem Reformed and Evangelical church to lie in state from 1:30 until 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon. Services will be held at 2:30 Monday. Burial in Grand View cemetery.

(Many of Conrad's relatives live in Mercer Co. Sure sounds like they all come from the same stock.
I'm mailing you because you mentioned pictures of Ludwig and wife. I've =
no pictures of Martin, but I'd give an arm for a picture of Ludwig. =
Would you mind?
Thanks for the consideration.

Stacy Hassel
DATA: Hassel, Helen Virginia listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Hassel, Helen Virginia

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Hi Leslie,

George Washington Hassel was my gg-grandfather also, I have a lot of information on the Hassel family. I have been working on the church records from Breitenbach. Also your father's dearest cousin here, Helen, is where I had originally started with the family files, and have since added more. I was in Breitenbach in September and just fell in love with the town. Email me and I will fill you in with some of the older generations. I think I have the ship's name here somewhere, I found the ship list a few months ago.

mdhof@nauticom.net

Debbie,
Sharpsville, Pa.

We do have a John Hassel, no birthdate, who was born in Germany, son of Wendelin Hassel b. 1814 in Germany, died 1904 in Iowa. John died in Burlington, IA, but no dates available. Wendelin had eight children. Those that I know about were born in Germany. What time period are we talking about?

Hello, I'm searching for information on a Hassel family and your post caught my eye. The family I am researching was suppose to have lived either near Mahanoy or Mauch Chunk(now Jim Thorpe) PA. Has anyone in your family heard of an Elmer? My data is very sketchy, but what I know is that an Elmer Hassel married Emma. Emma had been married previously, so I have no idea which name she may be known by. The couple had 4 children to my knowledge; Elmer(married Helen Landenberg?), Margaret(married Jack Kelly),Cora(married George McCormick), and Mary(married Michael McMonegal). Other names I have are from the previous marriages of Emma. Maria Flannery nee Taylor from Emma's first marriage had the following children; Mary(married Tony McAndrew), John(married Jane), Kenneth, and Daniel Flannery. Following either a death or divorce from Elmer, Emma married a Meikrantz. This information my not be completely accurate, but all I have at the moment.
We have a Wendelin Hassel who was born in Oberweir, Baden, Germany 10/20/1814. He came to the US after 1857, when his youngest child was born. He and his wife, Cecelia Juengling had John, Michael, Victoria,Dominic, Charles Richard Benedict, Lena---all born in Germany. The family eventually came to Burlington, Iowa. Does there appear to be any connection? I have no idea of the size of Obermeir.

Have some Hassels from Oberweir, Baden who came to US in mid-late 1800's. Settled in Burlington, IA. Have no Frederick, however. Can you give dates and/or any info on parents/siblings or location?
