Joy, Hi I just saw your post and thought I would try to answer. Henry Melvin Hatton was my grandfather and your grandfather was my U
ncle Dan Hatton. Uncle Dan'n brother Harold Melvin Hatton was my father. Uncle Dan had 4 children, James, Joe, Karen, and Bonnie.
Henry Melvin Hatton's father was George Washington Hatton III, his father was George Washington Hatton II, and his father was George Washing Hatton I. Now from and including Henry Melvin Hatton they all spelled last name with one T (Haton). So you may have to try Haton to find any of the elders of our family. I hope this will help with any looking that you do.
My email adress is spiritwalker45@yahoo.com
Take care and may God bless, your cousin.
Canadian Obituary for Pte. Bernard Hatton, Sept. 1896

From the book Esteemed and Regretted, Canadian obituaries from the Niagara Peninsula, compiled by Paul Hutchinson.

The Times
Niagara-on-the-Lake
September 24, 1896
p. 4

A MARKSMAN KILLED

An accident which had a fatal result occurred at the rifle range on Thursday morning last. Private Hatton of No. 8 Company, 31st Battalion, who was one of the markers at target 13, was shot whilst Company No. 4 of the 12th Battalion were firing from the 200-yard range. The bullet struck the two-inch plank of cover-board on the edge, deflected downwards and to the side, striking Private Hatton on the left side of his head. The bullet went through, scattering the man's brains over the signal board. The bullet went on as far as the boards in the rear of the trench, and then fell to the ground.

The marker had just been removing one of the discs when he was struck. He was six feet two inches in height, and, had he not been a man of more than ordinary stature, he would not have been injured, as the bullet struck him just on the top of the head. The surgeon, who was on the ground pronounced the case to be hopeless. he was at once removed to the hospital, where he died in about four hours.

No blame for the accident is attached to any one. Private Hatton was in his right place, and the company were firing at the proper time. The range was altered this year. It is protected in front by four or five feet of packed earth. Firing was dispensed with during the remainder of the week, however, and men were set to work to lower the floor of the trench about eighteen inches. The work was rapidly pushed forward and completed by Monday morning. Since then target practice has been resumed without any further mishaps.

Bernard Hatton comes from Owen Sound. He was about 22 years of age, and joined Co. No. 8 when it was first organized, a little over two years ago.

A brother of the deceased arrived on Friday and took the remains home to Owen Sound for burial.

The most unfortunate accident cast a gloom over the entire camp.

I know that he was living in Robertson, Texas in 1875 because I have a copy of a letter he wrote to her and mentions the baby. I don't know if they got a divorce, or if he died. I have no sources proving such.
Please let me know what you have in regards to their marriage.
Thanks,
Karen Hatten

Thank you for responding to my inquiry. I have "finished" my Hatton Family Geneaolgy and had it published. I put a disclaimer in the book that some of the information could not be verified to my satisfaction but that I wanted to complete what I had. I have only done this book for my immediate family so they could see where they came from and Benjamin was not in my immediate line. Good luck to you in doing your research. I sent all my research books and research to the Breathitt County Library in Kentucky when I finished. Hopefully someone will be able to use the books to do a more complete family history on the Hatton's

Hello Elizabeth,
I saw your message regarding the Hattons of Maryland and I am intrigued. My own family history is through Elizabeth Hatton Greenfield; her father was Acquilla Hatton who was the son of John Hatton, born 1711.

Do you know of earlier Hattons? I'd be most grateful if you can add to the information.

Thank you for any light you can shed on this family!

Linda Harrison

I have a little information that I may be able to add, but I really appreciate this wonderful contribution. I'll try to get that added to your post later this week.
Audrey
I married a Hatton from Powell Co., Ky. A friend & I are researching the Hatton's. Starting with Adam Hatton (b. 1731 in Pennsylvia & died about 1832 in Clark Co., Ky. He was in Rev. War & I have obtained about 65 pages from Fold 3 (Footnote). In researching in Clark & Montgomery Co. there was not will or land deeds. I will go to Powell & Estill Co. to search for a will or deeds for Adam Hatton. It is my understanding the Adam Hatton live on the Clark-Estill Co. so I am unsure wether he lived in Clark or Estill Co. when he died & where he is buried. I have an obit for Adam Hatton.

I am looking for the children of Adam & Sarah Hatton. Can someone help me with the Adam & Sarah's children, county of death, & burial place?
Thanks so much,
Mary Hatton

Hello,

I am researching my husband's great-grandmother Nancy D. HATTON. Nancy was born 2 Feb 1854 to Hiram Franklin HATTON and Susan Louana HOLDER in Patton County, KY, died 29 Mar 1938 in Kellyville, Creek County, OK, and was buried 30 Mar 1938 in Kellyville Cemetery, Kellyville, Creek County, OK.

She married William H. "Bill" WILLOUGHBY/WILLIBY on 13 Apr 1884 in Montgomery County, KY.

Known children include daughter Juda born ca Mar 1886 in KY, son William Sherman 5 Jan 1888 in Mount Sterling, Montgomery County, KY (my husband's grandfather), daughter Ardenia born ca Sep 1891 in KY, and daughter Mattie born ca Apr 1897 in KY (as per the 1900 US Federal Census for Powell County, KY). There is also another daughter Nancy Jane born 24 Apr 1898 in KY, who married a Jacob WEINS in 1920 in Kellyville, OK, and died 3 Jun 1987 in Kellyville, OK. I suspect Nancy Jane and Mattie are the same person.

The earliest I have Nancy, Bill & family in Kellyville, OK is on the 1920 US Federal Census. I am still looking for them on the 1910 US Federal Census.

Any information anyone has to help my husband fill in the blanks (including pictures anyone is willing to share) about his great-grandmother will be greatly appreciated.
Hello Barbara--Janus C. Hatton was my grandfather. His daughter, Agusta Godby Hatton, married George Washington Lemon, My father, Hatton Lemon, was their first child. I am trying to find who Janus parents were and trace the family as far back as I can. I'm also looking for Mary M. Hatton, Janus' wife, who her parents. Ancestry.com says that Janus was born in Kentucky and that Mary was born in Virginia. Janis and Mary lived in Pettis County, MO. If you are having any success in locating previous generations please email me at dalemon@gra.midco.net to tell me what you have found. We clearly are relatives.
Regards,
Don Lemon

Re: Rachel BRYANT / HATTON / Terry

Her first marriage was to Adam Hatton, on March 10, 1836 in Estill County, KY. Bond in Clay Co. Her sons were Samuel Monroe Hatton and Hiram. Sam served in the Union army as a commissary officer and he and his wife, Joanna were my father's great grand parents. Family story is that they named two of their boys Ulysses Grant and Lincoln to advertise that they were union sympathies, considering move from a "border" state.

Their son, named Ulysses Grant, married to Martha McPherson. Kids Mary B (1882), Francis (1885), Wiley (1890) Anna (1893), Charles "Doc" (1895) and Rose (1898).

My dad is the grandson of Samuel Monroe's son, Samuel Blunt.

Following is something interesting (via Judie Petty) that was verified to me by my Dad's elderly cousin, Sam Wilson, back in 1987. His mother was Sam and Joanna's daughter, Mary.

Martha was born around 1863 in Gainesville TX. Martha married William J. Bell in 1870 in Tarrant County, TX and had two children (Mary Jane 1882 and Sarah Frances 1884). They divorced. Martha married Grant Hatton sometime between 1885 and 1889. They had four children (Wiley, Anna, Rose and Charlie). Grant was killed near Eureka Springs around 1897 by U.S. Marshalls. He had killed a young Indian man named Dannenberg near Tahlequah in the Indian Territory (Oklahoma). He was trying to escape from the marshals when he was killed. This comes from a copy of a newspaper notice that was given to me (Judie) by a distant cousin. They also got a copy of the criminal file from the National Archives. In 1900 Martha and her children were living with Grant’s parents in Carrol Co, Arkansas. Source notes that Mary Jane had a child around age 14 or 15 with no recorded marriage. Speculates that Dannenberg was the father. The criminal record says that Mary was to called as a witness and Grant was to be transported back to Indian Territory for trial in an Indian court. Mary’s child’s name was Nancy. Mary would never tell her about the circumstances of her birth. (Source: Audrey, descendant from Mary Jane, via Judie)

Grant was a prisoner at Levenworth: # 1740 http://www.archives.gov/central-plains/kansas-city/finding-a...

My dad remembers "Aunt Pink" (Rose, who was really a cousin) and her refusal to talk about her father.

My father (Samuel Blunt, son of David Franklin, grandson of Samuel Blunt and Joanna Size) had an Uncle Hiram who he remembers well. I am going to suppose that that Hiram was named after the uncle Hiram. It's not unusual for my relatives to sound as if they are calling him "Harm" (accent).

Richard William HATTON b abt 1834 in England

Can anyone provide a clue, please, regarding the birthplace of this HATTON, and the details of his first marriage.

William Richard HATTON or Richard William HATTON came from England to Australia, before 1861. (I have the Australian birth certificate of one of his children of the second marriage which says "Richard William" and his 1861 NSW Marriage Certificate (second marriage) says only William, and he signed it William ...). Is it W R or R W ??

William Richard HATTON died 4 May 1916 in Mudgee NSW Australia and was buried 6 May.

He married Mary LUCK, a spinster and 'Needlewoman', on 3rd July 1861, Church of England, Mudgee. On his marriage certificate it notes he was a 'widower' and 'Shoemaker'. They were both 'of Mudgee' when they married 1861.

I am not able to find his FIRST marriage (was it in the UK or in Australia and what was the spouse name?). I am thinking that such a discovery may help me find his birthplace details. All I have seen on any certificate is 'England" for birthplace, and he was said to be 82 years at his death 1916. (=1834).

Any suggestions, hints, please.

He has since passed away but all of the Johansmann names in the Cincinnati Ohio area are of the same family. Unfortunately I do not have these readily available anymore since they were not in my direct line and came to America later than my famly but you should be able to contact any of them and get the records to anyone doing research.

Hi Jane,

Unfortunately the marriage record does not give the names of his parents. It reads:
Frederick Kennedy Hatton of this parish (bachelor) and Sarah Bird of this parish (spinster)were married in this church by Banns.. on 25th April 1836, in the presence of Harriet and William Bird.

I am hoping that his middle name is derived from his mothers maiden name?! Kennedy = Hatton? It's a long shot, but its an 'odd' name I thought.

All the census' I have seen so far indicate that he was born in Scotland, but he has never appeared on any of them with his parents.

I don't know if that can provide any pointers at all?
Sarah
Hi Sarah,
I can find no baptism in Scotland for Frederick Hatton 1812 +/- 5 years .
Do you have his fathers name from his marriage records ?
Assuming that he did not move down to London with his parents they could be on the Scottish census as Hatton is wasn't such a common name in Scotland.
Jane

Scottish Brick Wall

Hi All,

I am currently researching my Hatton lineage, but have hit a brick wall. I have tried searching everywhere for more information; including on Scotland's People and so on.

The gentleman that is causing the problem is: Frederick Kennedy Hatton. I believe he was born in Scotland and then moved to London prior to the census' starting. From what I have gathered he was born around 1812 (give or take a few years) and died in London in 1869. I have ordered his will, but this tells me nothing new. The only thing that may help me is his middle name (can I presume this is his mothers maiden name?), it only appears once in all of the documents I have - his marriage to Sarah Bird in 1836 (London).

Because my 'Scottish Fred' died before the census' started to become more informative, I only have the birth country of Scotland to go on.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I wish I could whittle it down to a county or town (so that it was worth going to Scotland to do some research) just don't know what to search for now.
Thanks
Sarah

Details I have:
Marriage 1836
Census: 1841-1861
Residence: 1856 and 1860
Will & Probate: 1869

HATTON/HATTEN Robert - Easton, Northampton,PA

Seeking info on parents of Robert Hatton/Hatten b. 1806 in Easton, Northampton, PA.

Trees on Ancestry.com list Jonathan A. Hatten or Edward Hatten as father b.1784 d 1856. Mother listed as Margaret Longstreth; oddly enough her name is associated with both Jonathan and Edward.

Any information is greatly appreciated!

Joy Gregg

I'm helping a friend begin searching his family. An ancestor is named George Hatton of Virginia and my friend doesn't have any other information other than he probably was living in 1920. My friend is mulatto and possibly the name came from an owner at some time. More than likely the ancestor would have been negro since mixed blood was usually assigned negro. Any help you could provide would be so very much appreciated. Hilobarbie@yahoo.com
